Mouldit clay .. you and buy it in any stationary shop

Acrylic paint would work but I've found that to get it to adhere better I've had to sand the bottles lightly with a fine grit sandpaper

Is it mandatory to use Gesso on glass?

No you can use chalk paint, but you need to make sure the glass is cleaned from any oils nail polish or alcohol

Pretty sure the gezzo is meant to gelp everything adhere to the glass , otherwise it would all just fall off quickly
