Mike I really appreciate your videos. They've been very helpful in answering some of the more particular questions I've had difficulty finding answers for.
This guys is amazing! Saw the phone number on his shirt and realized he was local to me. Called him and he was super helpful at helping me figure out my issue and solve my problem! Thanks Mike!
Great video! Thank you for replying to my message and giving me advice about a recirculation system on my setup.
Explained very well
Very good video!! Your explanation was very easy to follow.
Mike, thanks for this detailed demo of installation. It was super helpful and I'm going to use it to install my GTK03U kit. My main goal is to save water which where i live is very precious and every drop of water saved will be credited to your installation video.
I also wanted to point out that the hot water manifold is completely redundant and the cold water manifold is of little use and could be just omitted in this configuration.
You could use the existing drain valves to connect the crossover hose from hot manifold to the cold manifold.
Mike thanks for this video...the content was timely given my current situation. I just purchased a home that has a Rinanni RL94i tankless water heater. One of the things we noticed immediately (that the inspector didn't catch) was the amount of time it takes for hot water to start flowing from at the kitchen sink (which is the farthest point ~30ft from the water heater). I'm not kidding when I say it can take 4-5 minutes to get hot water. I've had 2 plumbers come out to fix the problem. One of the plumbers spent very little time examining the problem, he recommended changing the stem on the faucet (which I took care of...didn't fix the problem)...the second plumber was very thorough but his solution was very expensive. He recommended installing a recirculating pump at the tank + installing a new return line from the sink back to the tank. Luckily the return line can be installed without knocking out walls, etc. His proposal was also loaded with 4-5 other fixes which included a maintenance agreement. My question is will the HE Plus pump kit solve the problem without the return line? Or is the return line absolutely necessary? The HE Pump Kit + installation would be half the cost of the second plumber's recommendation. One last comment....The plumber mentioned his company installed 9 of the crossover valves (vs return line), of the 9 installed, 8 were returned or had to be re-repaired. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I believe you with the time it took for hot water to get to the kitchen. I had a house I stoped counting at 15 minutes. The HE-Plus pump system will work great. Put the bypass valve under the kitchen sink as shown in my video. Install the pump system set the dip switches and you will have fast hot water. Buy the kit with the MC195 controller not the WIFI ( same price) hope this was helpful
Mike
@@ThatTanklessGuy hi mike, is there a reason you choose the mc195 over the control R?
This is actually my wife's account so I'm using it. I am installing a return line on a RL75 and Mike was good enough to talk me through some of the unique problems with my plumbing system. Rinnai should pay him. Thanks again Mike.
Señor mike muchas gracias .
Tu tiempo y el mio fue muy provechoso, ver vídeos educativos. Ganare $$$$ pronto.
Really needed a, "And Bob's Your Uncle" at about 26:30 - Keep up the great work Mike, don't ever change, I enjoy the hell out of your videos, you have helped me fully understand and pipe in my own RL94i, couldn't have done it without you! Ordering the full pump kit now and we are throwing a dedicated return in during our remodel. Thanks again!
Great Video! You are a life -save on the Rinnai products. Installed the Ru199en about a year ago. Can I install a recirculating pump with this unit? If so. Which one? I'm using the Control R WIFI . Actually have it turned off since the last firmware update caused problems I DEC.
Thanks Mike! Anybody in Austin, TX had this kit installed yet?
Great video could I use this on an RL75e and put the pump in the crawlspace? and run the wiring through the wall to heater that is hanging outside?
I bought the pump new on eBay and it’s the pump that comes in the kit. I’ll look at model and post it
Hi Mike, I just bought a 1250 square foot townhouse near Lake Tahoe and am remodelling. I am not sure that a tankless is right for the climate...it does get cold here, but I have heard how awesome they are. I have 2.5 bathrooms, a dishwasher, large capacity washer, and a 50 gallon soaking tub. I am looking at the Rinnai V94IN, because it runs on natural gas and, has a relatively high 9.4 GPM. I figured if the ground water is cold, I might want to go big on the GPM for the bathtub. I like the current sale price of$878.00. but am wondering if this model might cost more to install? ANyway, I don't know anything about this stuff and thought you might be able to steer me in the right direction. Thank you, and I love your videos, Jodi
Nice if you have an internal unit... what about external units? Can I put an under sink pump with crossover and call it a day?
Mike, what purpose is the bypass line near the pump if you have install a thermal bypass?
Hi Mike,
I received my HEPUMPKITMC and it arrived with two Comfort Valves, having two bridge valves ok on this system? By the way Thank you for the Filter tool. I just received it.
Mike is 110% legit. His videos are so helpful. BIGGEST of all, he helped me over phone and email with some of my questions. TOP NOTCH. Dear reader, subscribe to this guy. He is amazing !!!
Hello, thank you for the video. One question - I have RU199IN tankless water heater and I am trying to add the GTK03 Recirculation Pump. Does the cold line have to connect to the hot line as you are showing in this video? I thought that doesn't require the unit that I have.
At the beginning of the video you specified RL7.5 or RL 9.4 Exterior only. But the remainder states Interior only. Wanted to make sure i wasn’t getting confused
Do you have to install the temp control unit as well?
Mike does the bypass line below the water heater and the water restriction piece have to be used on the RL75IN if I have a dedicated hot water return line in my water piping? I have a complete hot water loop.
Does the HE+ pump kit work with the RU199in without a dedicated return line
Excellent video. However I can't find anyone that offers the WIFI controller for sail. Any thoughts on where. Thanks
Mike, I have a new ru160i and wanted to install the GTK15 for it. The home does not have a dedicated recirculation line however does have a thermal bypass valve in the home already from their previous tank heater installation which I have not removed. Do you have a video showing installation of that type of setup? If not, would you install the pump on the cold or hot side? Would you need an expansion tank? Also as you know, this tankless is the newer ones with therma circ technology. Your channel has been a great help to me. Thanks!
Unfortunately you can’t use the bypass valve with a RC160 there is no way for the unit to Denver the bypass valve. It’s only made for a dedicated return line. Mike
@@TheBuddylab Sorry I should have clarified, I do not have the Rinnai with the dedicated return line valve (RUR model). I have the one where you have to add the external pump(RU160IN). The pump instructions depict an expansion tank on the cold side, some type of scaler and a check valve if you are going to use recirculation. I figured why would I need an expansion tank since we have no tank now?
Very helpful video Mike, thanks!
I am installing this kit and have a dedicated return line. Do I need to install the bypass adapter and hose onto the copper male threads as you show or can I just cap off both of those made threads since I am not using the thermal bypass return?
You still need to install the hose and adapter with a dedicated line. Mike
Mike I have bought all the pump, controller, and the pipe cover separately because I can’t find the kit from supply house or anywhere anymore, I am installing everything new with dedicated return line and the RL 75 with the MC 195 controller, why do I need the crossover pipe and everything because I can’t find the dedicated piping to go with the unit and will have to solder the piping up to install the bypass piping and the small restriction fitting. Can you please let me know if this is a must, I have the exact pump that came in the HE kit. Thank you
@@jasonb.7152 I am buying the pump and the controller separately as well. Which pump did you buy if you could please share?
do you have a link for the installation guide? I have looked and just can't find it anywhere.
I have a RU 160i tankless water heater and want to add the recirculation pump to help prevent freezing pipes to my kitchen sick only which was an issue last winter. I cannot insulate further as the pipes are in the floor with no access. Would this recirculation pump help with this freezing pipes issue?
Also, how do I figure out if I have a dedicated return line?
Hi Mike thanks for the great video! In this video you mentioned also doing a video on connecting the wireless control-r module; Have you posted that video yet, and if so could you provide a link or title? I have an RL75 outdoor unit and I am having a bugger of a time with the module and being able to connect to the app. I learned from this video that I still need to set the parameters on the RL75. I did set the dip switches 4 & 8 to on in the white bank. The app is constantly looping to "you need to install a software update", having done that several times with the correct led responses and getting to an update finished I'm at a loss as to why the app is not able to connect to the unit. I guess having never reached the point of giving it my Wi-Fi name and password is part of the issue. The module has a blue led, and the wireless button is working to turn on the RL75 and the pump. Also the control -r seems to take priority over the MC91 standard controller and setting the temperature from 120 to 98 degrees . Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong?
Mark, I have no made the WiFi video. But to answer your question the new 2.0 App. Is down and you would have to try to connect to the old App. Mike
Does this system require an expansion tank?
Mike will this pump kit work on a Rinnai V series unit?
would this recirculating unit work withmy REU model V65e?
Can you install this unit on a RL 94 external unit control R WI-FI ?
great videos, thank you. on this install, what is the purpose of the flex line from the cold side (before the pump) to the hot side (after the heater)? it is some kind of bypass or jumper, but why?
I'm also confused and have the same question - is there an actual valve on this line? what would i need if my kit doesn't have those copper pieces? which is the thermal bypass valve and when would it close?
still confused mike. what is to stop the cold water from bypassing the heater and entering into the hot water line?
Hello Mike. Thanks again for these informative videos. I want to ask you for a favor.. since this kit is on backorder and have been on backorder for a while can we put this kit together buying each piece in the kit separately? If that is the case what are all the pieces involved in this kit? Pump type and all the separate components that makes the kit for a crossover setup and Control R.
Yes In theory you could but finding that crossover fitting will be the problem. That the fitting with the small hose at the unit not the one that goes under the sink.Mike
I would be able to use this kit for RL94E - VC series? If so, where can I purchase it? kindly advise
Hi, at the 12 minute mark, what is the purpose of that small metal clad flexible tube that connects the hot water and the cold water sides?
it’s a bypass for when the thermal bypass valve closes the hot water needs to go somewhere so it’s directed into the cold side of the tankless.
Mike, I have a RL-75 and am installing this kit. However there is no Black/White wire with a label "cut wire to connect pump". There are no matching plugs and those are only small gauge wiring. Can the pump be connected to a 110 volt receptacle and run continuously or is there another solution?
Does the dedicated return line have to be a minimum of 3/4 in"?
Does the RU199iN need a dedicated return line or does this pump (HE+ series pump kit) work directly
I have a RL75 It looks like you have what I need.....where you buy it at??
Hi mike , contacted a plumber to install a recirc pump on my Rl 94. He did not recommend to use the thermal recirc under the master bath sink due to having hot water leakage to the cold side (so the cold faucet will give hot water) he said better to install a dedicated return line , what do you think? The quote states: “ 25”. Customer has been informed that adding the re circulation pump will make the wait for hot water shorter but we cannot ensure perfection due to lack of access to water pipe closer to the master shower. The crossover application under the sink was also explained and customer doesn’t like the idea of hot water bleeding into the cold water.” Please need your honest opinion asap
True it is better to have a dedicated return line but if it’s not run the full length or will cause to much damage running it the bypass valve works great. I have hundreds of them installed and never had a problem with it. Yes a very little hot water will get into the cold side before the bypass valve closes but you will probably never notice it. I hope this helped. Mike
Thank you mike, wish you were in texas to do the job! Really appreciate your advice. The return line cannot be run the full length ( the closest they can get to the master bath is 15 ft from the faucet)so i guess best is the bypass valve right?
how would i put an Grunfos external circulation pump on a Sensei Ru166in / Ru199in ?
The only way you can use an external pump with those United is if you have a dedicated return line coming back from the furthest hit water fixture. A thermal bypass valve will not work with those United. I hope this helped Mike
@@TheBuddylab Hi Mike, can you help explain why an external pump and under sink bypass or a combination pump/valve that installs under the sink, will not work with the RU models without return line? Is there some type of recirculation pump that will work for the RU model without return? A Rinnai tech support guys told me some might work but couldn't give a recommendation.
Awesome Video!
What is the model number of this kit?
Where can this system be purchased?
I bought www.bigfrogsupply.com/products/grundfos-gtk03-pump-kit-for-sensei-rinnias but I'm pretty sure it's just the pump and cable (hasn't arrived yet) as i couldn't locate a place to buy the whole kit
If you have a Ferguson supply where you live or
Supplyhouse.com you can also buy it through Rinnai. I hope this helped Mike
900 bucks.. well I guess I'll have to wait 30 seconds for hot water.
Absolutely fantastic video! Thank you so much for all the time and effort explaining this set-up. I'm ordering my WiFi system right now for my RL75i.
