I took the hour trip south to eat at Woody's today.I had the dozen Blue Claws..It was well worth the trip.The service was great as well as the restaurant.I'll be be back down soon....
I remember in the 90's shipping #1's to Maryland in the spring time from La. and Tx. thousands of pounds of 1's are shipped there in ya'll off season. By Plane of course.
I miss Maryland Crab houses so much. You made that look soo good. Your killing me. I live in Florida now and I try to go crabbing at Guana bay as much as I can. Steam them up with Old Bay and munch away. I also miss big fried onions and the Sweet corn. So far, you are by miles the best teacher for dealing with the (very rare, only frozen in chinese supermarkets) blue swimming crab. I live in London, and my girlfriend ( who is from Hong kong) love crab. And the easy at which you dealt with that crab, makes us want to come you your place, just to at least learn. Please note, swimming crab is only available frozen in London. Great master class mate.!

He pulls off all the claws and fins and legs first. How are you supposed to rip off the shell after that? I was taught, You grab the claws and legs and fins in one hand, the shell in the other and rip the shell right off. If you know what you are doing, you don't need any tools.
You're an idiot! the fat or mustard is not the organs and brains!! The organs is the harder stringy stuff and the brain is in the shell and you can't even see the brain because it's so small. So please know your facts before you try to correct someone!!!
just noticed your comment and the reason that mainly male crabs are sold and not female crabs is that: 1) there are far more males than females in a population 2) if you harvest all the females you won't have any to repopulate the area (also this is tied to why most crab catchers will not grab them in the winter to allow the population to regrow)
I live in Jacksonville in Eastern North Carolina and rarely ever find crab this large anymore. I love crabbing and I love eating them but they sure are a lot of work especially when they're smaller in size. Corn..I love that too but what is corn without the butter? That is like eating a peanut butter sandwich without the jam! Eat the butter! Eat the butter!

Wow. I have been looking on here to show my girl how to eat crabs. I think my family is the only ones who eat blue crab with out cracking the shell. if it is cooked right you can pull all the meat out with the fins. the only reason to crack the shell open is for the mustered.

If crab is fresh enough and well cleaned then steamed in cauldron. For tasty aspect, late April ~ May is the best of the best. It's right before spawning season [june~august - closed season] But Late September ~ October is the most popular season with full white meats in carapace shell. Rice & Steamed blue crab... yum

Mcpblackheart I've watched several of these how to's just for shits and giggles and I don't get just ripping the les off like that, if you bust the joint at the body you'll get a ton of meat out on the ends of the legs so that when you tear into the body the meat that's left will be easier to get out. And tearing the swimmers off like that is grounds for dismissal, once again work that leg at the joint and out comes that glorious jumbo lump fully intact... but what do I know, I remove the top shell first and bust the whole crab in half and take it from there. Guess I've been doing it wrong for 43 years.😕
He eats crabs like a girl. We never used a knife. Pop the top, rip off the gills. Eat the fat & mustard. Pull off the fingers & claws. Go for the sweet meat. If your fingers aren't dirty when you're done, you didn't eat a crab. Suck your fingers clean.
