    Model: Panama 5
This is a 50" Casablanca Panama 5 ceiling fan in the Bright Brass finish, shown with a set of Hi-Gloss Antique Oak blades and an F. Fabbian KG3RA "Calipso" light kit. The model number is 12B2T and the serial number reads HB10736 which dates this fan to have been manufactured August 10th, 1992; the 736th fan produced that day. This fan features it's original Inteli-Touch control system, utilizing a W-11 wall control.
A brass Panama alone is perhaps one of the most common older Casablanca models you can run across. With it's versatile styling and trendy brass finish of it's time, it was a best seller, and even today, 30 years later, there is no short supply of Bright Brass Panamas. In an effort to spice this fan up I’ve added an F. Fabbian "Calipso" light kit, a unique 3-light fixture that Casablanca offered for a short time between 1997 to 2000. As far as I know, the Calipso light kit was only offered in a brass finish and had the choice of white shades or almond shades, as shown in the video. This light kit was also offered with both 3-lights and 5-lights. The fan was originally a Gallery Edition fan, the "B" in the model number signifies that this fan originally came with a set of Antique Oak blades, which were severely warped when I received it. So technically the light kit is not period correct and the blades do not correspond to the model number but.. eh, it looks good!
Overall the fan performs as well as any other K-55 Casablanca from that era. Aside from a slight wobble, the bearings are silent, the original electronics work flawlessly and the air movement is great.
To see this fan in the 4 blade configuration, check out the video below:

A lot of people don’t know about the history of the Panama line of horizontally mounted windmills. The Panama 1 was created is 1836 by Brandon Paterson. It was highly controversial at the time due to his use of forced labor to hand craft the rotating arms, so much so in fact that by the time the second generation, the Panama Mark 2, came out, a civil war had been fought over the ethical standpoint on how future ceiling spinners would be made. The Panama 3 however was truly where the design came to be what it is recognized for today. You see the Panama 3 introduced the revolutionary flux capacitor. This new design allowed the oscillating wheel to go beyond its previous maximum rotational speed of 1.3 mph, all the way to now a whopping 88 mph. Reaching such speeds did have its drawbacks however, as around this time the Panama 3 became infamous as it was used frequently for decapitations by both the Irish and Italian mobs. To help get away from this stigma, Brandon, now 136 years old, decided to reduce the speed on his next model, the Panama 4, and also finally removed the highly outdated asbestos blades and lead housing unit and replaced them with the more modern polyurethane ones that significantly reduced the price as well. This lead to public rioting, as a damning hit piece was released on the New York Times alleging that the new style was made in Chinese sweat shops using child labor. The allegations were further validated when a child’s severed finger was discovered within the motor of several units sold. This, along with the dramatic price increase to $4200, lead to Brandon finally being removed from his position in the company and Aidan Noland took over as CEO/CFO/VP/MP/COO and ushered in a new wave of ceiling spheres for the house of white company.
