I recently read Circe which seems to be to me the genesis of the modern Retelling of Greek Mythos genre. Piranesi and Ariadne have both popped up as recommendations since then. I wonder if you've read Circe, and if you think there are any similarities between them? I think Circe itself was a very interesting story to re-tell. If you have read Circe, I wonder if you'd put Piranesi and Ariadne on the same level of quality?
Thank you so much for your comment. I read Circe in 2022. It is the catalyst for me to read more retelling of Greek mythology as well. I love that book. I wouldn't put Piranesi next to Circe and Ariadne because its story is so different. It's not mythology. I don't want to give much away if you haven't read it yet, but it has a fantasy world and realism in a very different way than Circe and Ariadne. Ariadne is very similar to Circe in both storytelling and quality. If I had to choose one over the other, I might choose Circe, maybe because that was the first of that genre for me. If I had to choose one among the three books, I would pick Piranesi. I don't want to imply that it's higher quality, but I think the story in Piranesi touched me more.
@@oceanandevergreen Thank you for your thoughts! Circe is currently the best book I've read this year, so I'm eager to dive into similar books, but also hesitant to dive in too soon and potentially ruin the experience by comparison. I'll put Piranesi up on the list, though.
I love this list! Subscribed!
Thank you ❤
Wow. This is a wide variety of books. I came to know about so many authors.
@@sanchitaway I’m so glad!
Also, love that you have Mary Oliver's 'Devotions' on the shelf, there :)
I enjoyed your book summaries in this video. I'll be back for more.
