Fernando was actually a person who was working as a bartender at a nightclub where the members in ABBA used to visit, in Stockholm. But the lyrics are ofcourse about a war of freedom based in Mexico, a history of their friendship! A great song! 😊
very happy to see you return again with more ABBA songs Fernando's name comes from a bartender at a nightclub in Stockholm (Sweden) that Frida and Benny frequented. "Fernando" (1976) It's a soft ballad, so nice and beautiful. The best thing is the beauty of the vocal harmonies of Frida (lead vocals) and Agnetha, very soft at a whisper level but at a level of perfection, which explodes into a magical chorus. I have compared it to "Chiquitita" (1979) because both songs have similarities and contrasts. Both have titles in Spanish, and were recorded in Spanish as well (from the Spanish album "Thanks for Music" from 1980) Both are pop ballads with an initial verse sung alone and from the second chorus a duet, with a very catchy and popular chorus (in my country Argentina they are songs that we would sing in a circle of friends, because we all know the lyrics) The two videos show the contrast between fire and snow, night and day. Both were ABBA's most successful singles worldwide, only behind "Dancing Queen". ABBA had already recorded "Dancing Queen" and the success of the single "Mamma Mía" was on the charts. It was the manager who convinced them to record "Fernando" so as not to repeat the style. (Frida had done it before her in 1975 on her solo album in Swedish and it was a success, but with lyrics of a love song, here for ABBA is a fictional story of a friendship about Mexican soldiers at the time of war) The manager of ABBA was right and everything was a success, one after another in that year 1976, with three consecutive #1 singles in the UK Mama Mia (2 weeks) Fernando (4 weeks) Prom Queen (6 weeks) Furthermore, this variety of options had different results in each country. "Fernando" was a colossal hit in Australia (14 weeks at #1 surpassing "Hey Jude's" mark) and 7 weeks at #1 in Germany. "Dancing Queen" spent 14 weeks at #1 in Sweden, 6 weeks at #1 in the United Kingdom, and 8 weeks at #1 in Australia. Both were #1 in the US but on several charts: "Dancing Queen" on Billboard and "Fernando" in Contemporary Adults The official video for "Fernando" was filmed in February 1976, with Dancing Queen the following day. In these Official Video you can see: Bjorn and Benny, both on guitars. Frida and Agnetha faced each other in both front and profile images (repeating the "Mamma Mia" technique) debuting their gypsy-style dress and one last comparison "Fernando" (1976) is ABBA's first single with Frida on lead vocals and recorded on her Swedish-language solo album (released before ABBA). like "S.O.S."" (1975) is ABBA's first single featuring Agnetha on lead vocals and recorded on her Swedish-language solo album (released after ABBA). Thank you very much for these videos and reactions Maybe the next one should be "S.O.S." (1975) with blonde Agnetha on lead vocals I wish you a good weekend See you next time My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America

Hey there great song and great reaction. Love me some ABBA. Yesterday was Fridas birthday 🎉. This song is about 2 Mexican soldiers remanessing about their glory days at war.. A little information if I may. This group was from Sweden ( you may hear an accent in their singing) they were actually 2 married couples. The auburn haired girl, Anni-Frid aka Frida married the pianist( playing guitar here though) with beard and red scarf named Benny. The blonde girl, Agnetha, married the other guitar player named Bjorn. That's where ABBA comes from, their first initials of their first names Anni-Frid Benny Bjorn Agnetha To say they were huge in the 70s and 80s is an understatement. They sold more than 400 million records. Only the Beatles have sold more. Try their song "If It wasn't for the nights" one of my favorites. The 1978 version from Japanese tv is best version in my opinion. Take care
The women's harmonies are so amazing, but personally I love the first verse sung solo by Frida: There are so many vocal details and small surprises in her interpretation, it makes me go wild every time I hear it.
Did you know Fernando was written just for Frida? She did a great solo album in Swedish called Frida Ensam (Frida Alone) she first sang it on there solo and in Swedish. It was a huge hit all over Europe.. So technically the English version with Agnetha is a cover
@@Vikinggirl1679 Yes, I did know that. One of my first records was Frida's 'Ensam', which featured Fernando in Swedish. Still, to this day, 'Ensam' is my favorite solo album by any of the ABBA members - love it!
@@Vikinggirl1679 It's not a cover. It's a translation. Benny, Bjorn and Stig wrote the music and the lyrics for the Swedish version as well as the English version. A cover is when you sing someone else song with no original artistic creation credited to you.

UAL .. Abba fez muito sucesso no Brasil também, muitas músicas boas. ..... Bye um abraço do Brasil....

I have always loved ABBA and especially their tunes infused with Spanish music and guitar. As nice as this is, I love Chiquitita even more.
A is pronaunced like in "America" and B like in "Brasil". And like there is only one "B". So: ABA! 😊
Great reaction! ❤
I was hoping to see her dance to Technotronic, "Pump up the jam" but that might put his eye out.

Abba was two married couples that have both since divorced. React next to Don’t Shut Me Down please!
seems like about 90% of their songs over many many years were about loves gone wrong and breaking up. (Great uptempo sad songs)
ABBA - "Rock Me".
Great choice the team 😊
ABBA - Does Your Mother Know
The next one please react to that one🙏❤️🔥
Yes that is a great one! The one from Spanish tv live is the best. The official video in my opinion is dark and hard to watch
My favourite ABBA Toon
I missed you guys. Where have you been. You look more mature but the lady has not aged a bit. Ok, ok. You are pretty too, bro. 🙂

You should listen to a Scottish band called Middle of the Road who were out about 4 years before ABBA and it's said that they copied there style
Fernando es Pancho Villa revolucionario mexicano

Fernando was a Spanish soldier

Great reaction & check out Alicia Keys You Don't Know My Name 😅

You don't pronounce each letter like that. Say ABBA like it's a word.
