Another modification I made but forgot to mention was replacing the amall plastic tuning knob with a much larger aluminum knob. These are found on Ebay. They have a molded in finger detent that allows spinning the knob much faster for quicker tuning across the band.

The fresnel lens is smart for indoor use. They sell them credit card size too. They can get a little spicy in direct sunlight though.
That actually is the credit card size magnifier. It allows viewing the small screen from further away, thus simulating a larger screen.
