My Parents Kicked Me Out Because Of My Sister. Six Years Later, They’re Asking For Help To Support Her And Her Four Young Children.
--------
The narrator, a successful architect in Boston, is contacted by her estranged parents after six years of silence. They ask for help supporting her sister, Ashley, and her four children. This request reopens wounds from the past, as the narrator was kicked out of her family home during college to make room for Ashley, who was pregnant at the time. The narrator reflects on years of favoritism, neglect, and hardship, including living in her car while struggling to complete her education.
Despite her initial anger and firm boundaries, the narrator begins to reassess her stance after learning about Ashley’s struggles, including untreated bipolar disorder and a recent severe car accident that resulted in an emergency C-section for her premature baby. She also discovers unsent apology letters from her father and sees genuine remorse from her parents during their emotional visit to Boston.
Balancing her well-being and compassion for her nieces and nephews, the narrator agrees to help in structured ways: assisting her parents in finding a mental health care center for Ashley and setting up a trust fund for the children’s education. She maintains professional and emotional boundaries, refusing to become directly involved in caregiving or to move back to Connecticut.
As Ashley begins her recovery, the family starts attending therapy sessions, and the narrator notes positive changes in her parents' behavior, including her father seeking therapy and offering a detailed apology. However, she decides to keep her family at arm’s length regarding her wedding, reserving key roles for friends who supported her during her struggles.
The story concludes with the narrator finding a middle ground-supporting her family without sacrificing her hard-won independence. She reframes familial relationships on healthier terms while focusing on her own future with her fiancé, Nathan. This realistic resolution highlights personal growth, the importance of boundaries, and the complexity of family dynamics.

1- Boston is not 4hrs to anywhere in CT! Flying there is pointless as well. After 6yrs of no contact, how did they find her? After sleeping in my car through college, there's no room for forgiveness and won't be taking care of no one's kid's
30 degrees Fahrenheit???
Guess that means she's a *cold, cruel b***h.*
XD
Damn.. she's cold😂
Ice cold!
🥶😅
Cold hearted 🥶 💙 🧊
Why wouldn’t you let the sister’s ex get full custody of his 2 kids? The sister obviously isn’t well mentally and will never be. It just takes her to stop taking her meds. It’s just vanity trying to retain the kids. Unless there are details about the ex not included. He more than likely will be the more stable parent. It’s sad that siblings will be broken up. That’s on the sister and her parents for enabling her and not having her committed sooner.
I get your point, but it's a complicated situation. The narrator still cares about her nieces and nephews and wants to help, but she’s setting boundaries for her own well-being. As for the ex, if he’s stable, he should be considered, but the kids' well-being comes first.
@@omgrevenge The grandparents are blinded to the grandchildren's well-being. Due to their desire to protect and care for their daughter. All I can say is if the children's fathers (2 to the first, the third to the second husband and the fourth ?) were horrible people. Then this, more than likely, would have been thrown into the story. It's an unreliable narrator. So, I'll admit can be totally wrong. On the same token, the first two partners could have been good guys who got tired of the crazy.

It’s not that they didn’t want it, but they acknowledged that losing custody, already being a reason for depression along with her mental illness and postpartum depression, could lead to self-harm, mental breakdowns, or attempts on one’s own life. so they wanted to get in front of it.
This makes no sense. Parents who love their children that much would never put their child on the street. Would not at least make sure she is OK. This is nuts. Please make up better stories that make sense.
What doesn't make sense is the son being responsible for the sisters behavior instead of the parents
Doesn’t make sense to me. Get thrown out and cut off financially even though there’s enough money to fund a savings account? Being fine with your daughter (or son, but pretty sure daughter) living in a car at Walmart parking lots? Only crack head parents are ok with that.
Charlie 6 millions 😂 , I hope his name brings him luck
6 million, yeah, he's your oldest nephew.
Fr
Lol 😂
Why cant you realize the money that dad had been putting aside for you for 6 years was actually the first grandchilds college fund. You need to stop being so naive and ditch them just like they ditched you.
I'm only halfway through the story but i just have to say. Screw the parents, they made their bed now they must lie in it. OP owes them NOTHING
Edit: finished story. Parents were good to try an apologise. I don't think they deserve forgiveness. But the fact that OP is willing to move forward shows that she is a better person. I respect OP's choices and i hope all ends well
Do not let them move to your state! You will never get rid of them. They only want to use you for your sister.
This is so believable -_-. If even a quarter of all of that was true, there would be no family because all of the “family is the most important” people are always selective. I’d rather stay totally callous and disconnected 100%
This story comes across as a rejected Hallmark screenplay.
I get it, people post fake stories to Reddit forums where real people are seeking life advice. There is no real point in pointing it out every time, but this one is just to much nonsense.
Why did you think they would change? How many times did you need to be hurt to see that you weren't wanted? That's my biggest problem with these stories. Even animals get the message. Change your number and go no contact completely. You don't owe them anything. You kept the phone number because you always hoped they'd wake up and show you love. No no support because they would spend the money on themselves.
The math ain’t mathing with the ages and timeline. Bad AI story
Those people are a bunch of hippocrites you don't owe them anything
This is soooo fake. They kicked her out but didn’t use her room. With all those children living there? They said they couldn't pay for her tuition but then set the money aside despite bring in severe debt. Just no....
If the story is real the parents staged the room to be just how she left it and that money they saved was actually the first grandchilds college fund and this woman is naive and fell for it.
Oh yeah. Comes off completely fake. They apparently had all these letters and wanted to apologize but didn’t match reach out until they wanted help? And with a house with that many kids in there, they just kept the room sitting perfectly untouched, even after the initial kick out? They can keep trying for much harder
Damn. Parents need to stop being prideful cause thats the reason families break apart
Fr that’s true😭
I don’t know if this story is true, but I’ve seen enough people demented enough to do such things. They might seem nice on the surface but behind their facades is another thing.
Do it for Dan..iella
Where are the father of those kids?? She cant get pregnant alone. So sad for the kids but is not OP responsibility.
Why didn’t you get a police report on them taking your money . File it immediately, don’t let them over ride you any way
OMG, just give the children to the stable parent (dad). Wtf
this video was really captivating and gave me a lot to think about. but honestly, I can't help but feel that the whole situation seems a bit one-sided. I mean, are we really sure the parents were just being unfair? sometimes family dynamics are way more complicated than we realize, and maybe there's more to the story than just sibling rivalry.
Why does AI always try to make it a happy ending where everyone forgives and understands each other?
Most of these stories are fake. The first half of this story is a carbon copy of a completely different story. Where the parents come back into OP's life and demand her home for the golden child.
Plus every story seems to have an Aunt, grandparent, or long lost cousin who helps the Op.
Good story!
Thank you so much for your support
Why didn’t you ignore them look what they did to you. It takes wisdom to be free from this family
My friend name is Ashley and my name is tyler irl and people think we are a couple but we're not and now i find this😭😭😭
This story is truly emotional and makes me think about whether we should continue helping our family after being abandoned. The way the author sets clear boundaries is completely understandable, but can we forgive and help when the past still hurts? What do you think about this?
🤦🏾♂️ and this is why people like you get used. Learn self respect and boundaries
