- Dennis Allen is terrible. Dennis Allen's timeout served no purpose. Dennis Allen serves no purpose
During week 7 of the 2024 NFL season, in a Thursday Night Football game between the Denver Broncos and the New Orleans Saints, the Saints decided to take a timeout... to then take a knee. No one understood why, and for good reason

Oh. My. God. There is not enough time in the day to try to understand this. Even the commentators were baffled. That was such a waste of time.
This might just be the worst timeout of 2024 at this point, I don't even know
Oh you definitely know
I think that it's the worst timeout ever!!
Dennis Allen should be Fired, period!!!!!!!!
I knew it! As soon as you said they called a timeout with 4 seconds, I was like "This is baffling, but it'd only really be dumb if they take a knee or go for a run play."
The icing on the cake. The ultimate summation of the Dennis Allen regime in New Orleans. Call a time out to think about another play, only to say "Awwww, screw it" and kneel. So apropos.
The main reason why Allen won't get axed today or even at the end of the season is that Saints GM Mickey Loomis is firmly behind him, and chalks up the Saints' issues to "injuries" and the lack of proper preseason preparation. Yeah, right, Mick, like that's an issue with every NFL team. It's going to take a full boycott of Saints games for owner Gayle Benson to read the room and pull the trigger on Allen (and hopefully Loomis as well). Let the fresh rebuild begin.
JG9,
Can we add Dennis Allen to the (dis)honor roll of *Knights of the Round Table of Dumb Decisions* (along with Matt Eberflus, Matt LaFleur, Kyle Shanahan, Dan Campbell, etc). Of course, Mike McCarthy is king.
This makes how many times he's appeared?
You're absolutely being too kind to Nathaniel Hackett circa 2022- he had several dumb decisions during that season. He might have had one in each the first three weeks!
The announcers "yeah, whatever," as the Saints got booed off the field nearly killed me.
1980: “Do you believe in miracles?!!!”
2024: “Yeah, whatever.”
Y N D Fuck did he call that timeout to kneel down? That was the kneel down that Jamies Winston owed him from the Falcons game last season 🤷🏾♂️
Coach Allen didn't remember who called a timeout? I'm sorry....WHAT????
So you're going to waste 16 minutes on a decision of a head coach calling a timeout near halftime. Giving pros & cons on that decision about any scenario of a 65 yard play. Only to call a knee.
16 minute video on a knee.
Score 16 to 3 with the team with the 3 has the ball.
16 minute video on taken a knee play after a timeout going into halftime. Mile High leads Cajun Country 16 to 3.
Second half Mile High team scores 17 more points while Cajun Country scores an additional 7 points.
So you made a 16 minute video on a non play in a 💥 *BLOWOUT* 💥 game.
I call that *A DUMB DECISION.*
JG9, watching you losing your sanity is rather entertaining.
This might just be the worst Thursday Night Football game in NFL history.
Title needs to be changed to: Dumb Decisions: The MOST POINTLESS Timeout in NFL HISTORY | Broncos @ Saints (2024)
Moments like this are why we really, REALLY need to get cronyism and nepotism out of sports. It seems, more often than not, people are hired into positions of power based on who they know rather than how much talent they have. Common sense and proactive thinking sure ain't common enough right now, that's for sure.
Simple explanation: Weasel Dennis Allen had a massive wager on Spencer Rattler over rushing attempts.
Is it possible the ref hallucinated a timeout because he expected one? Like when a ref whistles a play dead on a fake spike
I remember listening to the kneel-down and the Saints booing the decision on Westwood One Radio via their website (WFNZ was broadcasting a Charlotte Hornets preseason game). Kevin Kugler and Ryan Harris were shocked by that the Saints did not attempt a Hail Mary, thus bringing upon the boos by the Saints fans.
Im amazed Dennis allen still has a job
He hasnt made the playoffs
Its year six
That being said theres a ton of unqualified coaches this year who still have jobs for whatever unknown reason
Exactly. Like McCarthy
This the worst game ever to not watch yet I felt like hearing and visually from reaction it was a drag. Then this time out then Rattler playing the concept of football which was almost a scope and score by broncos only to flag brought it back. In the end it was a Thursday night massacre and loss of brain cells
I wonder if Sean Payton thought of employing Greg Schiano’s strategery on that play.
I saw this sequence of events and knew it would show up on Dumb Decisions lol
When they took that knee after the timeout before halftime, I changed the channel and watched the Dodgers- Mets game...I thought the TB game was bad, but this was ridiculous!! What in the **** was the O-line doing? What was their purpose on the field, because blocking definitely wasn't on the agenda!! New game, same song on defense- couldn't tackle, which was OK because we couldn't cover, either...and as sad as it was to see Adebo being carted off the field, at least he drew another coverage penalty!! We are OLD at every level of the defense...Cam and Demario can't tackle with any consistency and Honey Badger badly dropping what could've been a pick 6 just ties everything together neatly.
Take the timeout. Nothing to lose. Think about a hail mary, then realise it's not a winner. Nothing to gain. Take the knee. Meh. It's not the worst timeout. The worst timeout would be one that actually loses the game. This one did nothing at all.
Maybe Mr. Allen is a fan of your channel and wanted to be on!
Well... he doesn't get to keep that timeout in the second half so... at least he's learning that.
Was going to throw one up changed his mind
The only reason I could imagine Dennis Allen doing something like this and not come across as an idiot is that he's being extremely petty.
As a Saints fan, please fire Dennis Allen because this season is done. I'm ready for the draft already.
As of now, Allen is still HC. I don’t know how either. I get the impressive amount of injuries to the Saints but good lord calls like these.
I do, in some cases, feel for Dennis Allen given the hand he was dealt with a franchise in a tailspin with bad upper management to the point that no matter the head coach was, the Saints would be in a bad spot today. However, it’s time for the Saints to move on from Dennis Allen. He may be one of the greatest defensive coordinators in NFL history, but he’s terrible as a head coach.
I thought this might be a video but then I didn't know how he'd be able to get 15-20 minutes out of it.
Jake Haner out played Spencer Rattler in his only possession.
He said I’m gonna use all my TOs idc 😂😂
I actually disagree that this is as dumb as portrayed. There's plenty of logical reasons this could have been called. It could have been done out of pettyness. It's borderline hail mary territory, they could have been debating trying it. Could have told the ref you intend to take a timeout at the end of the previous play, which is common practice. Could have needed more time for their numbers team to decide if there was something worth doing. But treating the purpose of the timeout to be the kneeldown on the next play is the dumb part. Nobody takes a timeout for the purpose of kneeling the ball. It just retroactively made their timeout moot.
the only reason i can think of him calling a time out is cause he saw something he figure the booth should review and did not want to toss a challenge flag cause it under the 2minutes. It is still stupid. either let the time run out or toss a hell marry and pray your qb can do a rodger somehow. Dont kneel it
You don't want a hell Mary
That was Tim Boyle last year on the jets where a hail Mary was picked off n returned for 6
You're not throwing up a Hail Mary from your own 35-yard line. Rattler can't reach the end zone from 65 yards out. Too risky
Yeah, you could tell the fans in the crowd wanted one though by the stadium reaction after the kneel.
I called this video happening the second they kneeled down 😂
I seen this video coming when I saw it happen last night 😂
Statswise, the Saints got an extra play and their rushing yards dropped.
Perhaps we need to better define the word "dumb" and distinguish this word from the somewhat more broad term "silly." ATEOTD a football coaching decision can't really be called truly dumb unless it is decisive in itself with respect to diminishing your team's chances of scoring and/or enhancing the opposition's chances of scoring. Calling a timeout and then taking a knee to end the half doesn't do anything to help your team, but it doesn't hurt them either. So while it's a silly decision, it's not really a dumb decision.
Wow can’t wait to play the Saints on week 8 this is as bad as our last HC Brandan Staley and I am very confident we can dominate them and get a W.
This game helped me fall asleep last night. But sheesh, what a call to continue wasting everyone's time instead of attempting to do something cool
Maybe DA has to pay for each TO left on the board?
Been preaching to fire Dennis Allen since last year and I just can't stand it anymore 😢
As soon as I seen it happen I knew that was your video.... isn't there a " tiny" con that they lost one or two yards on their over all yardage numbers??? And yes I know that's not a big deal
How can you say this is the dumbest time out of Week 7? We’ve only had one game of Week 7 so far.
He's challenging the rest of the league to top it.
If you had Aaron Rodgers, yeah, call time out, call a play and roll Rodgers out for a Hail Mary. Hope for Rodgers miracle or a PI. Unlikely to score but unlikely to turn the ball over.
Bet Allen repeats on Dumb Decisions (assuming not sacked) later this season. It’ll probably be a clock management fail.
Didn't want to go to half time with all 3 time outs?
Some bet they would use all three time outs before half?
Not like I'm a coach but I would have just taken a knee now this just makes no sense
Does Allen have some incriminating evidence against Saints GM Mickey Loomis? I don't know how the Saints still have Allen on their sideline. Can anyone make this make sense?
Mickey Loomis needs to be kicked upstairs
Nah going for it at 4th and 10 near the 50 down 26-3 with 7mins left was a dumb decision
Are we going to see a new head coach in New Orleans?
The NFL is not a good product anymore. I rarely watch it .
you're not seeing the bigger picture of the time out being called there. ill give you a couple of days to think about it further before i tell you my opinion. but there is definitely a reason.
The big picture that I'm seeing, is that Dennis Allen should've taken a knee as soon as the Saints got possession of the ball so that they could just go into the half.
Calling TWO PASS PLAYS, calling a timeout on each, JUST TO TAKE A KNEE, of which you were better off doing it on the first play of the drive, is stupid. I would absolutely LOVE to hear your logic and reasoning behind this Dumb Decision. Don't wait until a couple days, tell me now.
Call a time out to run one last play sure go for it. You never know what might happen. Broken play/dpi etc
To then kneel yeah dumb
I watched about 10 minutes of the game. (I was watching the Dallas Stars vs the Washington Capitals) That was 10 minutes too much.
Making content on timeouts is low hanging fruit. Seems like all modern coaches suck at clock management lmao
You do DUMB DECISIONS for a coach either not calling a timeout when they should have or calling a timeout when they shouldn't have.
i mean wouldn’t you agree this was a dumb decision? if the timeout wasn’t taken at all or was taken and they made an actual play it wouldn’t have been a dumb decision. but taking the timeout AND THEN taking a knee? yeah that is pointless and dumb
Congratulations. You just defined a dumb decision.
The same wasn’t awful? Why is everyone hating?? Plus aren’t you a Jacksonville fan? No room to talk!
Yes, so I especially know what bad football games look like. This was a really bad football game
Have you heard him rant about the suckfest that is Jacksonville?
I knew this was a dumb decision, an actual one, when I saw it because WHY THE F would you kneel on 4 seconds if you were going to try at least get some momentum or a shot at the end zone.
If you call a timeout with 4 seconds try to run a respectable play before half even when your team sucks right now.
