NOTES: 1. Vedam is pramana, a living being cannot live without doing karma (deeds), and the life reaches the lord only when such karma is done as per an authority. Tiryaks (backbone is parallel to earth) do not have Karma-adhikara, (Ksheene Punye Martyalokam Vishnati: after punya is spent out, from higher world, they fall down, this earth is called Martya loka because it has dwandas.) In such a martya loka, human is the most auspicious living being. Only human being can have an authority (Karma-adhikara) on his deeds because only humans have buddhi (wisdom). The only pramana which humans have to follow in order to either reach higher worlds with punya karma, or to escape the birth-death cycle (Moksha) by reaching ‘Punararahita Shashwata Siva Sannidhyam’ by following the words of the lord (Vedas: Apourusheyam/Sruti, not written by a person, it’s Ishwara-vaakku. Vedam and the lord both are same like me and my breath). 2. Sanatana dharma means that who practice a life in accordance to Vedas. Sanatana Dharma was not named because there was none else to be named to differentiate or identify. Matam originates from mati (mind), that’s why sanatana dharma is not a religion/matam. 3. Vedam is called Sruti because it wasn’t never written in book, because Veda has swara and learnt from Guru by listening, and the teaching the same to his disciple. Not even a letter was changed or apabhramsa in due course of time, because they are locked in between the letters that come in front and back to completely avoid the loss of letters from Sruti. Hence the Vedas have not altered for thousands of generations. 4. Rishis took the principles of Vedas and compiled to teach people, and called them Smriti. Smriti follows Sruti like how a calf follows a cow as said by Kalidasa in his Raghuvamsham (Sruterivartham Smritiranvagachat). Those who cannot understand both Sruti and Smriti, we have to follow Purana. Puranas follow Smriti and Sruti. Pravachana means ‘Prakrishta Vachana’, it is like checking whether a stick planted in soil is firm or not. Sargascha pratisargascha vamsho manvantaranicha, Vamshanu Charitanchaiva Puranam Pancha Lakshanam: Purana teaches about the lives of dharmic people across the whole dynasty and across many lives (janmas) across manvantaras. Puranas show Vedic principles under magnifying lens. One sentence in Vedam is explained with a living example. Reading about Rama teaches the Vedic principles by following them in his life. By learning Dharma, peace comes in society. That is the reason Pravachanas are done every evening in temples. If Sruti, Smriti and Purana all three are not reached to a person, Fouth is Sishtacharam: following a great personage close to him. Fifth pramana is Antaratma, promising that I will do only that I follow my Antaratma (inner soul). 5. So the first pramana for human life is Veda. Shankara told his students who asked him to teach one quintessential message: “vEdO NityAm adIyatAm tadUditAm karmasva anushthIyatAm” (Let the Veda be studied daily, and let Karmas follow Vedas). “durstarkAstu viramyatAm” (use your intellect, arguing abilities and logic to support Vedas, not against it). Not even deed; a word shouldn’t be used against Vedas. If we see a beautiful painting, we wonder who the artist is. In the same way, Vedas give us the answer about vishwanatha while you question the vishwa (universe). Ghee comes from milk, but can we show ghee in milk? But it can be seen only with some effort (milk-yogurt-butter-ghee). The purpose is the only thing that can bring the lord to see with this muscular eye, only with an effort called bhakti, not because one questions or doubts. Vishnu took Narasimha avatara not to kill Hiranyakashipu, but to prove Prahlada’s trust that Vishnu is omnipresent (Chakri Sarvopagata = the one with Chakra is everywhere; Vishnu means Vyapaka, everywhere). To prove the boy who had enormous bhakti in Him, he emerged from where Hiranyakashipu stopped his finger (at a pillar). Prahlada never saw Vishnu, but he believed Narada’s teachings (prenatal), and Narada believed in Veda and got Vishnu darshana. And Vishnu came from where Hiranyakashipu’s finger stopped, and killed him in compliance with Brahma’s boon. 6. Like how one Sun appears as each Sun to each one of us, lord seems to be different to different people, but the lord is as true as Sun is whether you accept its presence or not. Every deed performed should be in accordance with Dharma, then that is Vedic. By doing non-dharmic deeds and going against Veda, from human life he/she aquires crores and crores of “Pashu-Pakshyadi-Pipilika-adi-paryantam”. So the only way to reach the lord is by following the lord Himself, which is Veda. Everyone does karma for pleasure, or comforts, but we shouldn’t forget that those pleasures are short-living, but doing karma in Dharma can bring the long-lasting pleasure, Moksha. In Sundarakanda, while Vali was dying, why you made friendship with Sugriva, he is not strong? If you’d befriended me, I would’ve brought your wife in a snap from Ravana, because he lost in war 4 times with me. Rama replied, you abducted Sugriva’s wife, Ruma though Sugriva is alive, which is against Vanara Dharma. I do not befriend a person who is against Dharma. I will free Sita only by following Dharma, even if it is not easy. Even after 3 yugas, Rama is still considered the ideal human being (though He is God, since he acquired nara janma, He is considered manava). In Aranya Kanda, Mareecha (rakshasa in Lanka) said Ravana, “Ramo Vigravahaan Dharmah, Sadhu Satya Parakramah” that Rama is the raasi-bhuta of Dharma; do not fight with Dharma (Him). When Rama was leaving on exile, Kousalya asked that she would follow Rama in exile. Rama said, any woman should only follow husband, it is Dharma to follow your husband, my father, king Dasaratha. Then Kausalya blessed: Rama saying that only this Dharma which you firmly hold on to shall save you! In 24000 shlokas in Ramayana, Rama never said anyone to do this way because He thinks it is right. He always said, do it this way because Vedas said it so! Rama Rajyam doesn’t mean the rule of Rama. It is rule in accordance to Vedas, because Rama did it ONLY that way. Vishnu acquired nara janma to show how human life can be lead in accordance to Vedas. 7. Bhumi asks Vishnu not when the weight increases. She cannot bear the weight of those who live against Dharma. Gita says, “mana Eva manushyAnAm kAraNam bandha mOkshayOh” (Manas should be channelized by dharma which is the reason that leads man to Moksha). Veda is pramana in every Yuga. Veda prescribes only way to turn ‘Dharma Chakra’, the ways of offering (Havis) to Gods through Agni mukha (Havya Vahana) in Yagna through Swahakara of Vedic Mantra with Swara. Gods accept only through Swahakara and Agnimukha. First Gods are invited and respected before offering. Gods get pleased because of the bhakti and offering through Swahakara, and first they rain to make the land more productive (Dharma Chakra is turned), not only for humans but also for all living beings (Sam dwipadE Sam chatushpadE, means two legged and four-legged also are supported). In Kali Yuga we cannot see Gods with our muscular eye because we have not elevated to see Them (our eye can see a lamp, but not the mid-day Sun). In Ramayana, when Rushyashringa guided Putrakameshti, Gods assembled there upon invocation and invitation to accept Havis (offered through Agni) offered by Dasaratha. In that assembly, Brahma appeared and all Gods complained and seeked His refuge and guidance as Sun cannot glow bright, Vayu cannot blow strong, Varuna cannot rain, Agni is confined to cooking food (Ravana). Then he says, Ravana boon excludes Nara (humans) from killing him. In order to save the Rishis who took refuge in Vedas to save the world by performing Yagnas to turn the Dharma Chakra, such rishis and rishi patnis are scared by Ravana (loka kantaka), so to stop him, Vishnu accepted to take birth as a Nara (which is considered less auspicious than Gandharva, Kinnera, Kimpurusha and other Deva Ganas) to kill Ravana, thus taking the avatar of Rama.
8. Dharma lukta becomes Dharma Brashta. Dharma always changes. The only thing that always changes is Dharma (Satya is the lord). Only Veda has authority to prescribe what that Dharma is. Dharma changes with ashrama, place, tithi (Ekadasi upavasa is dharma, dwadasi bhojana is dharma), varna, etc. Even when Vishnu acquired the avatar of Vamana, he did not go against Dharma prescribed by Veda. A charity (daana) is performed and accepted only according to Veda. Anything cannot be given by anyone and anything cannot be accepted by anyone. Who gives what and who takes what is prescribed only by Veda. The one who offers sees Vishnu in the one who accepts daana, and in return he grants punya that can ascend his next lives. The only way to turn earning (artha) into punya is by charity (daana) of artha (which is a ‘vibhuti’, it can be money, riches, education, art, etc.) When Bali chakravarty asked Vamana who was as bright as a morning Sun, with lor of aura and wisdom, when he walked to Yagna vatika, whether he wants palaces, elephants, horses, women, gold, kingdoms, etc. Vamana says, I’m a Brahmachary, you cannot give them to me nor I can accept them from you. You can give me an akshamala, or an umbrella, or a yagnopaveta (extra thread for future), or darbhas (bunch of dried darbha grass), or some land where I can sit and perform my daily rituals (Sandhya vandana). Even Sanyasi has dharma prescribed in Vedas. Sanyasi is not free of dharma (eg. Sanyasis cannot travel in vehicles, even if camels, elephants, horses, palaquins are following him). Grihasta’s dharma is to lead life with wife, participate in sex, have children, enjoy tasty meals, earn money, build houses, offers to Sanyasi and Brahmachary (hence Grihasta can earn Punya by supporting other two ashramas too). The extract of all Vedas is Dharma only. Holding on to the ever-changing dharma as prescribed by Veda makes us to reach the never-changing Satya, who is Vishnu.

The only pramana which humans have to follow in order to either reach higher worlds with punya karma, or to escape the birth-death cycle (Moksha) by reaching ‘Punararahita Shashwata Siva Sannidhyam’ by following the words of the lord (Vedas: Apourusheyam/Sruti, not written by a person, it’s Ishwara-vaakku. Vedam and the lord both are same like me and my breath).
2. Sanatana dharma means that who practice a life in accordance to Vedas. Sanatana Dharma was not named because there was none else to be named to differentiate or identify. Matam originates from mati (mind), that’s why sanatana dharma is not a religion/matam.
3. Vedam is called Sruti because it wasn’t never written in book, because Veda has swara and learnt from Guru by listening, and the teaching the same to his disciple. Not even a letter was changed or apabhramsa in due course of time, because they are locked in between the letters that come in front and back to completely avoid the loss of letters from Sruti. Hence the Vedas have not altered for thousands of generations.
4. Rishis took the principles of Vedas and compiled to teach people, and called them Smriti. Smriti follows Sruti like how a calf follows a cow as said by Kalidasa in his Raghuvamsham (Sruterivartham Smritiranvagachat). Those who cannot understand both Sruti and Smriti, we have to follow Purana. Puranas follow Smriti and Sruti. Pravachana means ‘Prakrishta Vachana’, it is like checking whether a stick planted in soil is firm or not. Sargascha pratisargascha vamsho manvantaranicha, Vamshanu Charitanchaiva Puranam Pancha Lakshanam: Purana teaches about the lives of dharmic people across the whole dynasty and across many lives (janmas) across manvantaras. Puranas show Vedic principles under magnifying lens. One sentence in Vedam is explained with a living example. Reading about Rama teaches the Vedic principles by following them in his life. By learning Dharma, peace comes in society. That is the reason Pravachanas are done every evening in temples. If Sruti, Smriti and Purana all three are not reached to a person, Fouth is Sishtacharam: following a great personage close to him. Fifth pramana is Antaratma, promising that I will do only that I follow my Antaratma (inner soul).
5. So the first pramana for human life is Veda. Shankara told his students who asked him to teach one quintessential message: “vEdO NityAm adIyatAm tadUditAm karmasva anushthIyatAm” (Let the Veda be studied daily, and let Karmas follow Vedas). “durstarkAstu viramyatAm” (use your intellect, arguing abilities and logic to support Vedas, not against it). Not even deed; a word shouldn’t be used against Vedas. If we see a beautiful painting, we wonder who the artist is. In the same way, Vedas give us the answer about vishwanatha while you question the vishwa (universe). Ghee comes from milk, but can we show ghee in milk? But it can be seen only with some effort (milk-yogurt-butter-ghee). The purpose is the only thing that can bring the lord to see with this muscular eye, only with an effort called bhakti, not because one questions or doubts. Vishnu took Narasimha avatara not to kill Hiranyakashipu, but to prove Prahlada’s trust that Vishnu is omnipresent (Chakri Sarvopagata = the one with Chakra is everywhere; Vishnu means Vyapaka, everywhere). To prove the boy who had enormous bhakti in Him, he emerged from where Hiranyakashipu stopped his finger (at a pillar). Prahlada never saw Vishnu, but he believed Narada’s teachings (prenatal), and Narada believed in Veda and got Vishnu darshana. And Vishnu came from where Hiranyakashipu’s finger stopped, and killed him in compliance with Brahma’s boon.
6. Like how one Sun appears as each Sun to each one of us, lord seems to be different to different people, but the lord is as true as Sun is whether you accept its presence or not. Every deed performed should be in accordance with Dharma, then that is Vedic. By doing non-dharmic deeds and going against Veda, from human life he/she aquires crores and crores of “Pashu-Pakshyadi-Pipilika-adi-paryantam”. So the only way to reach the lord is by following the lord Himself, which is Veda. Everyone does karma for pleasure, or comforts, but we shouldn’t forget that those pleasures are short-living, but doing karma in Dharma can bring the long-lasting pleasure, Moksha. In Sundarakanda, while Vali was dying, why you made friendship with Sugriva, he is not strong? If you’d befriended me, I would’ve brought your wife in a snap from Ravana, because he lost in war 4 times with me. Rama replied, you abducted Sugriva’s wife, Ruma though Sugriva is alive, which is against Vanara Dharma. I do not befriend a person who is against Dharma. I will free Sita only by following Dharma, even if it is not easy. Even after 3 yugas, Rama is still considered the ideal human being (though He is God, since he acquired nara janma, He is considered manava). In Aranya Kanda, Mareecha (rakshasa in Lanka) said Ravana, “Ramo Vigravahaan Dharmah, Sadhu Satya Parakramah” that Rama is the raasi-bhuta of Dharma; do not fight with Dharma (Him). When Rama was leaving on exile, Kousalya asked that she would follow Rama in exile. Rama said, any woman should only follow husband, it is Dharma to follow your husband, my father, king Dasaratha. Then Kausalya blessed: Rama saying that only this Dharma which you firmly hold on to shall save you! In 24000 shlokas in Ramayana, Rama never said anyone to do this way because He thinks it is right. He always said, do it this way because Vedas said it so! Rama Rajyam doesn’t mean the rule of Rama. It is rule in accordance to Vedas, because Rama did it ONLY that way. Vishnu acquired nara janma to show how human life can be lead in accordance to Vedas.
7. Bhumi asks Vishnu not when the weight increases. She cannot bear the weight of those who live against Dharma. Gita says, “mana Eva manushyAnAm kAraNam bandha mOkshayOh” (Manas should be channelized by dharma which is the reason that leads man to Moksha). Veda is pramana in every Yuga. Veda prescribes only way to turn ‘Dharma Chakra’, the ways of offering (Havis) to Gods through Agni mukha (Havya Vahana) in Yagna through Swahakara of Vedic Mantra with Swara. Gods accept only through Swahakara and Agnimukha. First Gods are invited and respected before offering. Gods get pleased because of the bhakti and offering through Swahakara, and first they rain to make the land more productive (Dharma Chakra is turned), not only for humans but also for all living beings (Sam dwipadE Sam chatushpadE, means two legged and four-legged also are supported). In Kali Yuga we cannot see Gods with our muscular eye because we have not elevated to see Them (our eye can see a lamp, but not the mid-day Sun). In Ramayana, when Rushyashringa guided Putrakameshti, Gods assembled there upon invocation and invitation to accept Havis (offered through Agni) offered by Dasaratha. In that assembly, Brahma appeared and all Gods complained and seeked His refuge and guidance as Sun cannot glow bright, Vayu cannot blow strong, Varuna cannot rain, Agni is confined to cooking food (Ravana). Then he says, Ravana boon excludes Nara (humans) from killing him. In order to save the Rishis who took refuge in Vedas to save the world by performing Yagnas to turn the Dharma Chakra, such rishis and rishi patnis are scared by Ravana (loka kantaka), so to stop him, Vishnu accepted to take birth as a Nara (which is considered less auspicious than Gandharva, Kinnera, Kimpurusha and other Deva Ganas) to kill Ravana, thus taking the avatar of Rama.
8. Dharma lukta becomes Dharma Brashta. Dharma always changes. The only thing that always changes is Dharma (Satya is the lord). Only Veda has authority to prescribe what that Dharma is. Dharma changes with ashrama, place, tithi (Ekadasi upavasa is dharma, dwadasi bhojana is dharma), varna, etc. Even when Vishnu acquired the avatar of Vamana, he did not go against Dharma prescribed by Veda. A charity (daana) is performed and accepted only according to Veda. Anything cannot be given by anyone and anything cannot be accepted by anyone. Who gives what and who takes what is prescribed only by Veda. The one who offers sees Vishnu in the one who accepts daana, and in return he grants punya that can ascend his next lives. The only way to turn earning (artha) into punya is by charity (daana) of artha (which is a ‘vibhuti’, it can be money, riches, education, art, etc.) When Bali chakravarty asked Vamana who was as bright as a morning Sun, with lor of aura and wisdom, when he walked to Yagna vatika, whether he wants palaces, elephants, horses, women, gold, kingdoms, etc. Vamana says, I’m a Brahmachary, you cannot give them to me nor I can accept them from you. You can give me an akshamala, or an umbrella, or a yagnopaveta (extra thread for future), or darbhas (bunch of dried darbha grass), or some land where I can sit and perform my daily rituals (Sandhya vandana). Even Sanyasi has dharma prescribed in Vedas. Sanyasi is not free of dharma (eg. Sanyasis cannot travel in vehicles, even if camels, elephants, horses, palaquins are following him). Grihasta’s dharma is to lead life with wife, participate in sex, have children, enjoy tasty meals, earn money, build houses, offers to Sanyasi and Brahmachary (hence Grihasta can earn Punya by supporting other two ashramas too). The extract of all Vedas is Dharma only. Holding on to the ever-changing dharma as prescribed by Veda makes us to reach the never-changing Satya, who is Vishnu.
