I'm a sound guy but this was recommended to me by the Propmaster and Assistant Propmaster I'm currently working with on a Warner Brothers feature. I don't know how better to say it but... wow. You totally nailed it! In 10 minutes you told a more emotional and captivating story than most of the directors I've worked with ever have in any of their shows. Mad props to you! Amazing!
Wow, thank you so much for this kind and generous comment! Its really encouraging (and motivating) to hear this. Cheers!
@@RagingCinema Nearly 3 years later and UA-cam recommended this video to me again. I had to stop what I was doing (on a short turn around no less) and rewatch. Such a great video! I can't say it enough.
As an assistant Propmaster on some pretty big Hollywood movies, I cannot possibly thank you enough for this video. It makes me tear up to watch. I can't tell you how many times people ask me "so what's a prop" and I struggle to "justify" what props are. We get no Emmys. We get no oscars. We are like the supportive friend who never gets the girl. Is kind of heartbreaking. We spend so much time being unrecognized and unsung it really gets into our heads and a lot of us have internalized the idea that we are not that important or artistic a part of the process. To see it acknowledged that we ARE is sort of jarring-- it's like getting a big hug after being alone for a long time. Thank you so very very much. Whenever anyone asks "so what is a prop" now, I show them your video. You've done wonders for this prop girl. -Melissa Harrison
Hey Melissa, I did some IMDb digging (stalking!) and you have in fact worked on a lot of big movies! :-) Can I ask, is the props department something you always wanted to get into or did you just kind of "fall" into the role? And do all properties crew need to be skilled model/set builders etc or are there roles within the props dept which simply require the ability to visualise/design/source materials for props etc?
Wow. Thank you for this amazing paragraph! You all deserve to be recognized and I'm happy and proud to play my small part in that.
Just tweeted this paragraph - hope you don't mind - but its something more people should hear!
+Peanut Turner (peanutismint) hey there. I moved out to California specifically to work in the art department on films, but I did sort of "fall into" props -- or rather I kind of fell into love with props. I enjoy being part of the active filming process instead of solely the art prep process, and props is the only art department that actually works the set (besides the on set dresser) from start to finish. I'm proud of our work but it seems that we are very often overlooked and misunderstood.
+Peanut Turner (peanutismint) and not all prop folks need to be manufacturer / builder skill sets. Props takes all types of creative people. If you're interested personally in getting into props I'd be happy to talk about the many aspects of the gig :)
Well done. Prop person here specializing in weapons and food.....well done. Wonderful video of our work!
Awesome. I'm glad I could highlight the great work you guys do!
Props to this video.....do you see what I just did!?....no?...anyone?.....(crickets)
Karpe D.M (Wild applause)
Karpe D.M slow clap for you my friend
props to you for making this video about props
I've been doing props for small theater productions (and occasionally for films) for years, and you hit the nail right on the head. If a prop fits the place & time, the audience doesn't notice because they assume that it's correct. They fail to realize that someone actually had to do research & find or recreate a milking stool from 1820.
Thanks
ace music choices my friend
Thanks. Making a video like this brings back the fun of putting together a mix tape :)
@@RagingCinema i especially appreciated the wheres my mind cover on strings
This is so cool. Why haven't more people seen this?
His vimeo account is more popular.
Hey Kanye East (clever name btw) I noticed you have commented on several of my videos. Thanks for joining the conversation. Its good to hear your feedback: positive and constructive. Hope to see your voice in more of these. Cheers!
Thanks dawg :]
They showed us this video in my Intro to Props class in freshman year of college, when I had NO CLUE what concentration I was going to pick, and now I'm about to graduate having been Props Master for one of my favorite shows ever. Props are so special to me, I love being able to tell meaningful stories. Love this video to bits!!
As someone who is going to college to be a props master thank you for this. It shows me people really do care for what I love, even if its a small few. I am going to use this video if anyone ever asks why I do what I do.
Thank you
+DTLSchiller Very cool.
So, what are you doing now?
Hi, stan give some recommendations of schools where I could specialize in props or anything in production design field, pleasee!! :( that are not to expensive haha :( I studied filmmaking but I want to do this, and I still don't know how to do a lot of things, and I have just seen super expensive masters. Is school necessary or people just learn it around?? I don't know if you still have the account, but anyway thank you!!
Fantastic... Pulled me in and keep me there until the end. You are a real talent, even without any Props.
+John Keane Thanks John. I appreciate your kind words :) Hope you are well! Cheers.
Your explanation of the greatest props is so beautiful. Even with the short clips, I was able to understand how it changes the film and that despite not putting them into the spotlight, they still create impact to the audience.
Thank you I appreciate that!
Wow, just wow. I'll keep revisiting this video from time to time. Great overview!
I'm so impressed by this analysis. Here's to your work.
this is sooo good. so simple yet unique
Gorgeous video! Thank you!
Wow, amazing video, Rishi Kaneria!
'Props' to you ;) I love this, kept me enthralled until the end, thank you!
Thank you for making the video! Please keep going and do more.
This was fantastic! Reminded me of all the movies I haven't watched in too long.
I love how inspirational this video is. At the same time, it makes me want to make a movie where there are no props, just to challenge myself a bit. 😅
Mind Blown!! .. Awesome story! .. and Oh God! .. the choice of sound tracks! ..:-).. Loved every part of it..! Never thought a video about props could be made, in a way that you are glued right to the end of it! ..
Thank you so much!
Nicely done!
Amazing insight I never noticed. Thank you!!!
the music is amazing thanks
Bravo!!! So good!!!!

That prop in Jurassic Park never set up a sequel. Unless you count that video game based on it as a sequel.
Great work, thanks.
Props are super important to different shows and can help move the stories forward or just as a general vision type
What an excellent video. Fills me with ideas!
We really enjoyed this. Thank you
Really liked the video you did. I like to think that this is a reason why people sometimes make props or buy them. They're objects that link to that universe we've seen.
Also like the quote that talks about a Trope: Chekhov's Gun. Hope to see more.
+TimeTravelinc Cheers! I appreciate this thoughtful comment.
Very well done! I’ve worked in the film industry in props for 15 years and I find this video extremely inspiring. Thank you. Subscribed.
Thank you so much! That means a lot!
@@RagingCinema you're welcome! I just returned to comment that your video is now featured on the home page of The Prop Masters Guild website. That is a serious recognition of work well done!
Wow! Brought back so many great memories of movies and I learned so many things. Beautifully done.
+Alma Flamenca Thank you Cristina! I appreciate it!
Absolutely! It was very interesting!
Excellent video. Excellent soundtrack too.
Did you know this video is featured on the home page of The Prop Masters Guild website? Well done!
i loved the music in this video, this is the first of many I will watch of your content!
Thank you so much. Really appreciate it :) Cheers!
It's a violin cover from "Where is my mind" by the Pixies right? Great video by the way
Well done!
awesome video!

Amazing video!!!!!
beautiful video.
Wow, excellent, subscribed!
+Subodh Sundriyal Thank you for your support!
Nice job!
Great!
This is a really good video.
Perfect.
I'm considering becoming a prop maker, and I have to say - this video was well done. I've been looking for reasoning that this is a vital part of the artistic process that I want to help portray, and this video was very heartfelt and encouraging. Thank you.
Thanks! Really appreciate your note. It absolutely is an important part of the process and this video is an homage to the men and women that make that contribution happen. You would be joining an important tribe :)
Nailed it. So cool.
Cheers, I appreciate that.
Props are very important parts in movies. I didn’t realize that so many things are considered props. This me a new way of viewing movies.
brilliant
I need more!
great video
so much love :)
I need more videos like this! You got yourself a new subscriber :D
+Tk R Thank you!

Epic video. So good
Thanks! Appreciate the positive comment.
I foresee a million views. Good job.
Adam Savage sent me. I'm glad I came. Excellent video. More like this please.
+Maxx B Cheers! I appreciate it.
Your video reminds me a lot of the work of Tony Zhou, from Every Frame a Painting. Your video was detailed, engaging and beautifully edited.
Thank you for sharing.
+Maxx B Thanks. Thats a great compliment :) I'm a big fan of Tony.
Is there a way to download this video to use it in a props class? I have shown it to students previously, but it would be simpler if I could download it, rather than have to stream it in the classroom?
omg how am I blanking on this what is that first song
The baby monitor pointed to the sky at 6:14. Anyone know which film that is?
+SethHesio Signs.
What an amazing video. You sir are getting subscribed wether you like it or not.
2:31 what's the movie (children baloon)?
+Max Lippolis "The Red Balloon" See complete list of movies used in the description of this video. Thanks for watching.
What movie is it in 3:26 ?
Magnolia.
Hi Raging Cinema! I'm working on a curriculum for teaching props to high school students and I would love to include this video in my presentation, is there any chance you would be willing to share the file with me so that teachers wouldn't have to rely on UA-cam?
+Megan Dietrich Hey Megan, direct message me on UA-cam, Twitter, or Vimeo and we can discuss. Cheers!
And still the Props truck is always the furthest from set.
This is an awesome video about props. I wish you didn't put cuss words in it though. I really wanted to show this to my students.
2:48m what's the movie?
+Greg Albuquerque Blade Runner
I waited for the Almanac.
Was that the hair from GATTACA!? 🤔
I want to be a prop maker so bad
I was today years old when I found realized how the Jurassic Park sequel was set up.
Everything is a prop except for the characters, so it's pretty obvious why props matter if you ask me. Didn't really need a movie for that.
Directors aren't props. Editing isn't a prop. Lighting isn't a prop. A set is not a prop. (There are props in a set, but a set isn't a prop.) Costumes aren't props.
I noticed that most of the great prop moments in movies were pre 2000 movies. Has movie making gotten that bad?
+The Floating Eye I don't think so. In reference to this video, thats probably more of a reflection of my own personal 'favorite time periods' in film. Thanks for watching and posing an interesting question. Cheers!
You didn’t say weapons
The only thing this video is missing is a lightsaber
this is kinda stupid but whatever
GTFO 👉
this is really up its own behind. All pretty obvious.
I still can't tell if your British or not
