Ah.. dis life is too short.
As we rightfully celebrate Nelly Uchendu for her vocal prowess and singing talent let us also honor and pay tribute to the pianist who took Nelly Uchendu’s music to another level. His name is "Uncle" Mike Obianwu. He was from Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. He was one of the most talented pianist/organist from Nigeria. Those who knew him well fondly called him “the Man Behind the Music” because, even though he was the main architect and mastermind of albums like “Love Nwantiti”, “Udum Araputam”, he was barely given any credit for his contributions.
Wow this is lovely. Apart from the voice, the instrumentals of this great piece did an equally great job. Please is uncle Mike still here with us? Thanks for reminding us about him
@@SwiftWayTravels Thanks for your question. I will answer it by giving you an example. The album Love Nwantinti (which is made up of mainly songs from traditional Igbo folk music with minor variations) was the project of Uncle Mike Obianwu. He arranged and edited the album. He also played the amazing piano accompaniment which intricately blended the songs together and transformed them into euphonious evergreen melodies. In fact, the first LP cover of the album Love Nwantinti, released in 1976 had the caption/inscription “Uncle Mike Obianwu featuring Nelly Uchendu”. It had a picture of Uncle Mike Obianwu sitting behind his grand piano. However, after Nelly Uchendu's celebrated performance at FESTAC '77 in Lagos, the album was reissued with a new cover with the caption/inscription "Nelly Uchendu and Mike Obianwu." In conclusion, I want to be clear about one thing: I am not in any way trying to diminish Nelly Uchendu’s talents, endowments and oeuvre as an accomplished singer and musician. In fact, in my humble opinion she was the best Nigerian female vocalist. I am only trying to give due credit to Uncle Mike Obianwu for his role and contributions towards the success of Nelly Uchendu’s musical career. He was one of the best Nigeria’s pianists/organists but he was a very humble man who never sought the limelight. May his soul rest in peace.
Ezigbo nwa ada igbo, what a golden voice made in heaven, reminds me of my childhood days when Men were kids, when we used to listen to this song on the radio, sweet & blissful memories
Taste of life has indeed gone. my early days are full of sweet memories, listening to her and Mike ejeagha on radio then. May God bless her soul. rest on Nelly Uchendu. The woman with a Golding voice.
I Iove this song . Amazing woman 😢😢😢. Tears rolling down😢😢😢 lots of people I know have passed away. People I knew when the track was topping the chart? when the track was reigning😢😢😢

Intense emotions envelopes me and I shed sorrowful tears each time I listen to "udu m alaputa m and anyi ga agbanaba". Both tracks transports me back to the early 1980s and make relive the Love And Care my Lovely Mum gave me all through her wonderful life time. May her loving Soul and that of Nelly Uchendu continue to rest with the Almighty God in Heaven. Nelly Uchendu was purely a gift from Heaven to mankind.

You don'k know what you have until you lose it. Wonderful voice. Echo of a refined voice, dance until you tired, listen until you can't hear the beautiful Igbo voice of Nelly. So sad Nelly, that you left early. Good things really don't last. Continue to rest in the reassuring Hands of Our Saviour YESHUA DIVINE.
Those yester-years' music remains treasure to the soul and body. They stand very tall against the very myopic insanity that has xterised the nowadays music industry.
