My temp charts have "PBO Disabled" in the title sections, which obviously doesn't apply to the 8600K. I pulled this layout from some old Ryzen benchmarks and forgot to remove it. Sorry about that! Also, let me know how you like this style video! It's 100% b-roll. Figured you'd wanna see more of the case than my pretty face :-D
Prety Cool Case But Im Still A Big Fan Of The Older Style Cases..Fractal Define XL R2 Or Corsair 900D Thermaltake Core X9 Type of Cases..But Thats my flavor..lol. diffrent strokes for diffrnt folks as thy say ! Cool Video any way! Thanks
Yes, broll is good. But face takes are good in order to see your actual reaction on the advatages and desadvantages of the product.
I wonder what would happen if one reversed the fans? I know in some cases it has not made a big difference. but the design of this one makes me believe it just might.
@@huri9946 I agree with you. Not 100% b-roll because Greg's expressions are important.
Ehm... the way you build in the front fan is wrong. Of course the airflow is bad if you don´t push cool air into the case ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
yo that stop motion animation with the water cooler parts is really cool
Thanks!
@@GregSalazar or should i say, NICE ✔️
It reminds of that music video blood pressure by mutemath!
I am not a gamer...i love this case..it's just perfect for me...great review,thank you!
5 minute straight to the point case review! Nice ✔️
So the cat included with the case? Neat.
Just bought this case. Thanks for the honest review. My build will be fine.
Def did like this style. Only things I'd suggest to add/improve:
- noise normalized testing (see if the silence focus worked at all)
- mentioning that silence focused cases like this are viable for lower-TDP systems, since as long as they won't overheat, the paneling will keep sound in. for higher TDP systems, the airflow vs silence battle is more muddied due to the tradeoff you brought up
There is just something wrong with this review. Those fans are not pure wing 2.
Greg, you hold up the supplied fans Pure Wings 2 BL047 140mm 3-pin fans [0:56]. But throughout the review a 120mm NZXT fan is shown in the front of the case [1:49, 2:53, 3:58, 4:23]? Also, the rear fan [4:42] looks like a 120mm fan (can see the 140mm case holes) with no 'be Silent!' logo on the fan? Obviously 120mm fans will have less air flow than 140mm.
Greg, please clarify if you tested with the Pure Wings 2 140mm or the NZXT 120mm? The one thing you criticize is air flow, so this is necessary to your review.
@@peterdodge7513 Thanks for spotting those timestamps in the video. I was very confused when I saw this video and it was claiming that the case was doing poorly. I do not wish to compare people's review videos, but Gamer Nexus has shown that with the two silent fans they were able to achieve lower temperature in comparison with couple other cases compared in this video. The 140mm fans do make difference and I find the thermal comparison within this video as disinformation.
You can argue you use same fans with all cases to make a fair comparison, but how is it really fair if the two Pure Wings 140mm fans are provided along with the purchase with the case? Does it not qualify to be part of the competition in comparing itself among cases based on default package?
Jimmy Nguyen Those were Silent Wings in GN vid, which are way better fans. These are 900rpm fans, which is pretty low. It also only comes with two fans, at 900rpm. GN shows the case hitting throttle temps with stock fans, making it one of the worst performers in stock config.
The other fans he’s using are most likely from the standardized fan test he talks about toward end of video. Since it’s all B-Roll, shots might be out of order.
Why aren't the bequiet fans used in this build or testing? What was the point to remove 2 140mm fans only to replace them with 2 120mm fans? 140mm fans will always move more air than 120mm fans. What are you trying to pull here?!
He literally said it is fan normalized. The whole point is to test the case, not the fans.
Dang, you really have an eye for aesthetics. I love how you present things and edit your videos
It's white. NICE! ✓
racist...
Its good to pair it with msi b450 mortar titanium altho the latest white gpu part is hard to find, i think Galax brand is the only one offering white gpu's.
@@poppershnoz4536 negatory
This review seems kinda unfair really. I think what Be Quiet! was aiming for here is not to cut off airflow by enclosing the case, but rather to draw the air inside the case through those front panels that take the air around some sound-dampening corners as it draws it into the case to prevent internal component noise from leaking out into the room and disturbing the user.
So it's not like they aimed to enclose it, just simply take the air into the case on a certain less-direct pathway for the sake of reducing noise disturbances. And considering how loud my GPU is, that is probably a good idea.
This case is not bad... it's simply aimed at PC users who prioritize a quiet experience over the best airflow experience for overclocking or whatever. And having awesome airflow probably doesn't matter in most cases unless you want to overclock anyway. (Something most users won't do anyway).
Been a subscriber for a while but rarely feel the need to comment. However today I just want to say that this video was so well put together. Clear, concise, informative and to the point, also the stop motion at the start was a nice touch I don't think I've seen you do that before, it was fun! Thank for continuing to put out the great content you do, if you happen to see this comment then you have yourself a good day and keep on keeping on as they say. 👍🏻
I appreciate the feedback!
Holy shit that cooler cover looks amazing! The shape of it with that light is fantastic looking.
0:42 Build quality testing from Pepsi.
Gamers Nexus are going to have a blast with this one : We present to you the 500 model! No not the H500P, not the H500P Mesh, not H500M, neither NZXT H500 or H500i not to be mistaken for the Coolermaster H500, neither do we talk about the Obsidian 500d from Corsair or its older brother the 500R. It's the BeQuiet Pure Base 500!
"the other other other _other_ 500."
@ScienceStudio Regarding temps: I understand you want to use the same fans to minimize variables in your testing, but this is a mistake IMO. If a case like this comes with fans, then it is a safe bet that the manufacturer chose them for a reason. Cases with side intake front panels like this one behave a lot like radiators--they need high static pressure fans to pull the air through that double-layered mesh. That single front fan isn't pulling in any fresh air, it just circulates what little air is drawn in by the negative pressure created by that rear exhaust fan.
It would be interesting to see how the case performs with the included be quiet fans mounted at the front vs. the setup you have here vs. both be quiet fans mounted at the front, with any air gaps around the front fans taped off so they HAVE to pull air through the front panel.
Agreed, other reviewers do use the stock fans and they all say it's amazing with how well it cools and how silent it is. Using the same fan over and over again is pretty unfair against cases that weren't built for that exact fan.
Don't know if you will see this but what do u recommend for 1 time build? I just bought this case and while I'm excited im trying to figure out how many to buy and where to put them. Im thinking 3 120s up front and 1 140 up top back and one 140 on the back?
@@cupofmozzarella My point exactly. Well said.
Seems like it's difficult to find a case without a window, this one looks great.
That Deepcool intro was very cool. Bet that took a few minutes to shoot. Nice job. Now for the case..yeah...ummm....well..maybe for a nice watercooling build?
sir do i get the cat with the case, all i'm interested in lol. nice video
oh man i clicked for the cat but now i'm considering buying the case since it looks so nice and my case is currently trash
Honestly, just get a Meshify C, unless you REALLY like that specific design. I own a be quiet! case myself, it's okay but not great.
@@hobbes2234 really well alright i want something that has a dust filter and at least a fan from factory
Well, the Meshify has both of these things and is in the same price range. Like, don't misunderstand: I don't want to talk you out of a case, just shed light on the alternatives which may not be in the spotlight anymore.
you swapped out the fans and you moved the front fan to inside the case instead of wear bequiet had it mounted. might want to redo your test with the fans in the stock config.
This video is....NICE.
Agreed with the acoustics vs airflow principle. I got myself a case with a mesh front panel (Meshify S2) and overkill amount of fans put on a low fan curve. Whisper quiet when I'm not doing anything intensive, and easily drowned out by my speakers or headphones when I'm gaming.
i love how it can hold up to 360mm fans that is so great!!
Nice 👍
IMO I think the front panel should have been pushed out a little bit further increasing the size of intakes. The IO could have also been moved to the top of the case freeing up its existing spot for more air intake. Overall It looks like a great case, the inclusion of a couple decent Pure Wings 2 140mm fans is also a very nice touch.
I'll probably be getting the windowless black version of this case for my next build. If I do, I'll be moving the front 140mm above the cpu as exhaust and add 3x Pure Wings 2 120mm fans as intake to the front. Hopefully this will give me slightly positive air pressure and enough brute force airflow that I can keep the fans running at relatively low rpms. Pure Wings 2 PWM fans are rather inexpensive so ideally I'll be able to keep the cost of this setup under $110.
Steamed Cream smart guy smart guy I’m gonna do the same
How did it turn out? Building my PC this weekend with the case. I want to use the pre installed 140mm in the front and put two shadow wings 2 White;) in the Back and above the CPU. So you think this will ne good?
Did you get this case? bequiet are releasing a newer version of this case with a mesh front panel called the Pure Base 500DX, it looks like a great upgrade to this case!
Double check the timestamps given by one of the comments, the two Pure Wings 140mm fans were not included for comparison. Thermal chart is disqualified.

i like seeing the 1070 in videos like this, doesn't really mean anything but i like it
I have this case and i think its really nice, though i wish consumers could have the option of swapping out the front panel with a better airflow one
Something to also keep in mind - you can get this case for 70-75€. The Fractal one costs 140€ where I live. This ,aswell as the the fact that he changed the be quiet fans doesn't fully represent the value of the case. Whilst I get the idea of wanting to make everything uniform, those 140 fans were there for a reason, and so is this price point.
I personally like the new style. I've never seen anything quite like it before with a Tech channel on UA-cam. Nice job editing, with a flow in steady information. The B-roll was on point, and oh-> The stop motion was awesome!
Clicked like and subscribe just because of the stop motion unboxing.
I love this review format!!! Brava!
Why do you have a 120mm fan in the rear and an NZXT fan at the front? The case comes with 2x BeQuiet! Silent Wings 2 fans.
So goood tumbnail ... Best yet
Don't chew me up but, have you tried or can you Install the intake fan (s) closest to the front panel? I only say that because with my old master case pro 5 I can and there was a dramatic change when it came to air flow, which cought me by surprise. Looking at my cases front panel and the front panel from the case your reviewing, I see a huge difference with the mesh vents being on the side vs mine. metal mesh and dust filter all on the front but would be cool if you could mount it up front and a difference. 🙂
Or it would probably make things worse 🤣🤣
yea he build in the front fan wrong. The fan belongs near to the mesh
nice editing with the fade between the empty and full shots.
Great review. Quick and to the point without unnecessary filler. It would of been nice to have at least one shot of the case with the glass panel on though.
Good point! Thanks for mentioning it.
Nice, straight to the point.
Nice
Greg, wait. You took out the 2 140mm Pure Wings 2 fans supplied with the case and put in 2 NZXT 120mm fans!? You mount the new 120mm front fan on the inside of the case, when the supplied 140mm fan is shipped under the front cover to pull the air in through the front panel side intake vents? Then you say "the airflow is likely lacking"? If you really did this, then this review is invalid.
Please retest this case with the supplied be quiet! pure wings 2 140mm fans in the right place and recheck. Also, there is loads more space to fit additional fans for people who need more air flow.
Love seeing bepis in the thumbnail. Cuteness in thumbnail increased by 10x
Comprehensive, non-biased, helpful review? Nice.
you can just add more fans to it to create better air flow...
excellent video Im rocking their Pure Base 800 with the glass side panel in black mostly because I needed a super quiet PC for my studio and recording I dont push my pc hard with games and it seems to handle the temps from doing sound and some 3D work pretty well System is a Ryxen 7 3700X 3rd gen OC to 4.2Ghz, 32GB of DDR4 3000Mhz Ram Gigabyte Aorus 1080 TI on an Asus gaming plus wifi Motherboard
This review was quick on concise. You're pretty good
I just don't understand why case manufacturers are so afraid of having cases with mesh front panels with great airflow.
It's why I love my Thermaltake V21 so much. Gigantic mesh front panel that keeps the case extremely well cooled despite being a micro ATX size case. All that airflow and it's dead silent.
Why aren't the bequiet fans used in this build or testing? What was the point to remove 2 140mm fans only to replace them with 2 120mm fans? 140mm fans will always move more air than 120mm fans. What are you trying to pull here?!
The airflow seems fine on mine.
comes with two 140mm fans and you installed NZXT ones?
fantastic case for me it is white and it looks grate
Oh yeah, my 6800xt cooking nicely inside the case and holy shit the glass panel is hot to touch to the point i just stop playing game to give the case a break
i'm torn between this or the NZXT 510. I like this one more because its all white on the inside
I just started to understand why you classify the NZXT H500 better than the PHANTEKS P400A and BE QUIET! PURE BASE 500 at 03:49 (guess what he has on top of the desk). In my opinion based on reviews the PHANTEKS P400A is among the the best airflow cases and the FRACTAL DESIGN MESHIFY S2 only becomes a good airflow case if a 120mm fan is added on the front of the case based on the techjesus review (Gamers Nexus).
Funny other reviews have shown lower temps with this case and stock fans.
I really like it. A mesh front panel would be nice tho. and at that price it honestly should come with two more fans but if you like simple clean design and want full atx in a super compact case this is a good case.
Awesome review Greg, great video. The case looks good
Thank you! And I agree!
@@GregSalazar yeah just the air flow
When i bought this case it was $90 but I didn’t state if it had tempered class panel 😂
Why didn't you put 2 Fans in the Front...1 on the Rear and 2 on the Top and then re-run your Test?
Waiting for Salazar cat tips
Saw this early by chance, good video. I like it.
I like the fan-standardized test but I miss the other side of the coin - noise... if the case gives the cpu 3 more degrees but shaves off 3db for that it is worth it.
Shame that they don't sell revision Silverstone RL06 cases - cheap and extremely efficient!
You guys are all crazy with all this "AIRFLOW". FFS you might even prefer the totally open "CASE" :))
Always forgetting the coil whine... :)
i got the case.
i put the 2 pure wings in front . ( lowest positions because the case gets the most air from the front lower section ).
140mm corsair silence in the back and a 240 rad on top.
So my "in" fans are 2 x 140 mm pure wings 2
"out" fans are 1 x 140mm Corsair ( AF 120 Low noise ) and the 2x Xilence xpf120 are pushing air trough the rad outside the case
temperatures are perfectly fine , noiselevels are also pretty good ( tempered glass sitepanel and the "airflow" top cover )
NICE
Now if you could get your hands on that metal mesh you could do a really nice front airflow mod...bad part is..getting your hands on that kind of metal mesh..
Doing a review with the CEO of your company nice
I really want the mesh version of this case but hate windows :/
Nice ✅ editing in this vid, Greg.
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
I love the aesthetic of the case. I wonder how my R5 3600/RX 580 build would do in it? Good video as always Greg
Would be just fine. I wouldn't say temps were great, but they also weren't terrible. And remember: we tested with standardized 120mm fans.
Is the airflow bad even with 2 140mm front fans and a rear 140 mm fan? I would use it for a system based on R5 7600X and RTX 4070.
How bout that Thermaltake H200 and that MetallicGear Neo Air?! Both look really great and are in the "budget mid-tower" category
While I know it adds to the cost kind of feel like with the ability to add 2 top 140mm fans for exhaust with the mesh panel gives you the ability to probably get some of that hot air out. I have seen more closed off cases that don't have top exhaust. We know hot air moves up, which is why in a fire they always tell you to get low. So add two 140mm fans for exhaust, maybe even some silent Be Quiet ones and you probably get some decent cooling I would imagine. From other reviews I have seen most of the cases in this price point don't include as nice of fans and no one offers the type of build quality from what other reviewers have said anyways as this case at this price point. Even the new corsair case making the review rounds is like $150 and seems super flimsy. Never owned a Be Quiet product before for the record but considering trying them out at this price point. Plus they are finally releasing some White fans so I like that as well.
Yeah this case might not be a perfect case for airflow but lets be honest no case with really good airflow is going to look good imo, yes its subjective but the meshify is down right hideous. Any other case you use to optimize airflow is going to be either large or have to have a billion fans. I have this case and love it, 28 degrees on idle, and about 60-70 degrees under load with optimized fan settings. The only thing i would change is the front panel, if they could just somehow put like mesh slits or one big rectangle mesh it would still look clean while provide adequate airflow.

The be quiet! Purrr Base :)
I came for the cat 😻
I know it increases price, but how about a test where all the fan slots are populated.
So now, its kind of decent at best - but could it be saved if you used the possibilities it provides and put in the extra fans it supports.
Does it have a cd tray let me know asap
*Nice* ✔️
how is the sound isolation?
...nice...
good jixiang
nice.
Inspected by kitteh. Kitteh approved! 😸
Some sort of noise testing would've been fine IMO.
beQuiet cases are "silent" cases, so when you want one you (should already) know that you won't get the best temp results.
Defeats the purpose IMO. A hotter system makes for a louder system - at which point you're counteracting the sound damping material's primary purpose.
@@GregSalazar True, and it would be interesting to see to what degree it counteracts the damping materials - generally speaking, not just with the Pure Base 500, but sure you'd also take into consideration the damping layout, material quality, etc.. Are temps still lower at X dB or not? Maybe do a video about it? *nudge nudge* ;-)
Higher temps at comparable dB levels would render silent cases kinda useless in general, don't you think?
you see, be quiet cases would be actually quiet and cool if you have noctua fans inside
nice editing skills..
can't find the item on amazon or any other online shops
just got a steel side panel white version of this case , for my Audio Rig.. and you were one of the reviewers responsible for that ;) . Thanks very much ! i hope i dont regret waiting a couple of months for the 500DX..but i really needed a case now..and i reckon that..despite the not that great airflow.. it will be quieter when idling, than the new case.
i really like your reviews man. very thorough, clear, and above all..pretty much imparcial, as you’re not usually sponsored by the same brands you're reviewing.
i’m pretty excited as this will be my first AMD build, and 1st HDD-less build.
btw... Does the front filter hold in place, if you remove the front panel ? i’m thinking i might remove the front panel when the heat load starts to rise.
i’ll be running a stock-cooled 2700X, for the time being, with a Dark Pro 4 cooler standing by , if needed.
thanks very much
cheers from Portugal.
PS: i got an extra Silent Wings 3 fan that i will probably stick in the back, keeping both remaining Silent 2s on the front.

You'll love the case! Glad I could help.
Very nice video. Which model within the same price range (and with good air flow) would you recommend then ?
Wanna buy but can't find this case on Amazon and Newegg
@5:21 we got a new subscriber! Woo hoo!~
A Science Studio Review? Nice.
Thanks for watching!
can you do future case reviews with stock fans temp., noise and one full installed fans?
They were SO close to a solid case here, but what they did provide is.........NICE! Loved the stop-motion animation you did with the cooling kit - that was........SUPER-NICE!
Would a negative air pressure system work better in this case??? Similar to the nzxt h500
Good thing S2 is only twice the price of 500 where I live...
That is a nice looking case, you think the CPU temps would be better with static pressure fans at the front with a 240mm AIO mounted up top?
Definitely would be. It's not a terrible case for airflow by any means - just not in the same league as the Meshify series and Phanteks P600S.
@@GregSalazar i currently have the Define R5 with no window. Been thinking instead of buying the glass side panel I'd pickup a new case with a slightly smaller footprint.
@@_fatalruin How is the Meshify terrible for silence? You can turn your fan speed _way_ down because they don't need to work as hard. I bet I can make a Meshify build just as quiet as a Pure Base 500 one.
Wrong. I have a pb 600 with an deepcool captain 240 AIO for a 3900x . Only way I can use it is by removing the front panel=> 20°C dip in temp... This case is an oven.
@@francoiscaton9763 so If I were to install a 360 or 280 AIO in the front, I would basically have to remove the front panel altogether?
I made the mistake of buying an i7-11700k and the top mount isnt really doing its job all that well. 43 degrees on idle
PB500 or Meshify C? In terms of airflow there will be a big difference?
