I did my psychology dissertation on the manipulative language that “psychics” and “mediums” use and it honestly angered me so much writing it, like exploiting people is a big no in general, but doing it when they’re arguably at their lowest point and desperately looking for some sort of hope, just wrong.

My bestfriend took me to a psychic party her family friend was hosting, we joined last minute, this was a month or so after my grandad passed away.
It was one of the most disturbing moments of my life. I was grief stricken and desperate for comfort and instead of bringing up ANYTHING about my grandfather like I had asked she told me
1. I was clearly a beautician (I’m actually a financial consultant lol)
2. My partner at the time (now ex) was going to propose to me.
3. She asked me “who’s the man...the older man...when you were a teenager....that touched you? Violated you?” NOONE. I was genuinely in shock she would ever say ANYTHING like that :| I told her I had never been violated or abused and she said “yes. It’s repressed but you were. I can see it. This man. You trusted him” I literally got so angry.

I was never convinced by these people but when my mum died I was desperate so paid my £60 which I could not afford ,what a load of rubbish they just tell you what you want to hear and feed off your grief and what you tell them I have no respect for them .

It’s so weird to me that people could make a living lying to heartbroken people. I always wonder whether these people are pure con-artists, or whether some really do think they are communicating with spirits, when really it’s all in their head. I just can’t imagine thinking ‘I need a new job, I know, I’ll lie to people about their dead relatives’ - It’s all very odd.
My mother was a spiritual coach. What I can tell you is that there is NO such thing as psychics that talk to the dead. That just isn’t true. I see those as scam artists. However, most good psychics are kindhearted people that are highly emotionally intelligent and provide comfort and/or encouragement to others. My mother helped SO many people in difficult situations. They had no one that could give them the guidance and insight they needed. See it as a cheaper and more personal alternative to a therapist. Sometimes that is just all you need.. Not everyone has a good support system, unfortunately. My mother helped doctors, nurses, police officers, teachers, single moms.. All kinds of people and also from different cultures. For example in Hindu culture there is a strong belief in spiritualism.

It used to be. Not sure why they dumped the law There was a very famous case during the war, of a medium who was giving away military secrets in her readings, like telling mothers their son's ship had sunk, when no one was supposed to know. They tried her under the Witchcraft and Fake Mediums act and chucked her in jail. Her name was Helen Duncan and it is a fascinating story, because what she was telling people was actually true, the War Department just didn't want it out there. No one has ever satisfactorily explained how some ordinary woman in Scotland knew these things. It was suggested that she was a spy, but if she was she wasn't a very good one. Aren't you supposed to report back to the enemy, not to Mrs Miggins from the corner shop, whose son has just died on a torpedoed warship? Presumably the enemy already knew, as they were the ones who sank it! All very odd. As for these people, they Should be on trial, for fraud.

Most are scammers, however i do think there people who can “speak to the dead” or “see the dead” or whatever you wanna call it. My Mum went to a medium and the lady said a man was telling her to tell my mum to get rid of all the mess at the side of our garden behind our shed. She also said about a lady who told her she liked my Mum’s new pink walls in the bathroom, she said all this and described these people without my Mum commenting or agreeing with anything. My mum said she described her Nan and Grandad (maybe great, can’t remember) and those people have never set foot in our house, they died before my Mum moved there. Too coincidental in this situation imo. I do think there are more scammers than legit people, and those people are just heartless.

Plot twist: the psychics actually got a random old woman called Norma Rose to speak to jack, but Norma being old and not really with it thought she was speaking to one of her grandchildren, and now the poor woman will never know that she was speaking to a stranger the whole time

One day my mum was at work and a customer came in and she sort of just blurted out that she knew it sounded weird but there was a lady trying to contact my mum through her. My mum doesn't believe in any of that so just laughed and said oh here we go 🙄She did say a few things that wasn't just your average "I can smell chicken, did she like chicken your nan?" She thanked my mum for doing her hair in her coffin and my mum said when she was brought out in her coffin my mum looked at her and said "you would never have your hair like this." And sorted it out for her and also told her to get rid of my dad as he was still as useless as he was when she was alive 🤣 which was true but she didn't she had me first #legend. Anyway I believe this woman was the business but she didn't ask my mum for a penny for it she just wanted to share it...unlike these pricks who prey on vulnerable grieving families. Well done for exposing them.
A genuine medium doesn't require money, it's their duty to pass messages to people and usually do it happily, I've met genuine mediums and never ever have they asked for money or any reward.

I've only once come across a psychic who was good and that was 30 years ago. She was a telephone psychic. The first thing she said to me was I'd been for a job interview and I'd got the job. I laughed at her because I'd already been told I'd been unsuccessful. She was adamant I'd got the job, went on to describe my new boss down to a T, even where he came from (he was not British - he was American) and that I would love my new job. She said a few other things that were accurate without any input from me. Imagine my surprise when the next day I got a phone call asking me to start the following Monday. The job had been offered to someone else but she'd turned it down and I was their second choice. So began the best job I ever had in my life with the best boss anyone could have wished for. It was originally a 3 month contract which was extended to over 18 months. However, our department was only there to oversee developments in the company and like all good things, it eventually came to an end. Not all psychics are charlatans, some are very good. I have come across several, especially at Psychic Fayres who couldn't even read Tarot cards properly and told one off for taking money under false pretenses. When she protested, I told her I read Tarot cards too and she was talking a load of nonsense. She turned bright red and scurried off.
