Not only did Bruce release all strength in his hands so that they became super fast - he also released all tension in his back and thus the spinal stretch was done faster than the eye could see.
I spent three years testing herbs and walking through a Sate Park in Washington State, USA, while experimenting with hand and body movements. I think I must have practiced millions of swings! Very healthy and I could smash a coconut with my palm.
I waited and waited and listened to the importance and benefits of the spinal stretch .... where was it? Thanks anyway, I enjoyed your explanation of the swings.
This is similar to parts of the WuDan Ji Ben Gung. I will share the video with my class because of the explanation of the energy flow during movements. Thanks!
I couldn't do swings at all until I become able to feel the tension I was adding to swings. I'm not sure how it happened, but maybe this will give hope to people who have trouble releasing their arms.
I don't practice for fighting any more. I had fun practicing out on my porch during Covid. One of my favorite books is Tai Chi Health For Life. Bruce isn't saying this but if you have a martial art background you get really far out. I have the Silat and Escrima background. I taught Tai Chi for free at a a hospital in Seattle. Beginners are difficult. They can't coordinate their body to do the footwork and hands together. I ended up showing a few basic movements and where they come from with the sticks or blades. I really wanted to focus on the more serious students.
the way i do this is to count 2 for two swings on the inhale and then count 3 for the exhale for 3 swings which then results in alternating sides for the 5 breaths.of course more advanced would be 3 and 4 breaths.also to end i twist the body forcefully in advance of the arms which generates a slapping motion in the arms.it is a somewhat chaotic effect but for me really releases a lot of tension.
I would suggest that the goal of the exercise overall is to let the body lead the arms and to release all tension from the body. many ways to change this and get good effects no doubt. spiral energy body is the qigong where you really ramp up the energy movement.
Bonjour, pourrait-on avoir les sous-titres en Français svp ? j ai acheté votre livre qi gong ouvrir les portes énergétiques du corps, une belle réussite 👍 Merci 🌟
Should the feet stay planted or does the one foot lead in the direction of the swing? I see both demonstated in this vid and as a total beginner this is a bit confusing. No mention at all about the actual foot action (or no action).
Hi Do you have to do the whole series of Energy Gates in one go and if so how long should I put aside. Would you get any benefit from doing the swings if you had some spare time during the day?
you can do the whole set in 10 minutes, or even less. 20 minutes or more is recommended. I do the first swing, or standing, or cloud hands, for brief times during the day, and I can feel my body and mind relaxing. when learning it, it's good to spend some serious time really getting it down, but later, you can easily use it in a flexible manner.
@@madogblue energyarts.com. there is a great book, opening the energy gates of the body, that is a great resource. He also has a very thorough DVD product on the energy gates set. if your really serious he is doing an instructor training in boulder this july. Probably a little optimistic to think you could get certified without previous study of the form but it would be a great learning experience. Or you can find an instructor in your area, there are many folks who have studied with him throughout the US and europe. :-)
@@madogblue yr wlcm. It's a great set, esp the dissolving work. all his stuff is very high quality, both the material and how he lays it out so you can really get some of the more sophisticated aspects of higher level qigong. it's done me a lot of good.
One of the highest level teachers in the west.ive trained with him 20 years ago this man is the real deal🥰
Bruce knows his stuff.
It's rare that such clear communication like this is made. Thank you.

Is there an indicative amount of time to devote to each exercise?
Thank you
