  • This is a daily event in my Mothers Dementia, sundowning, Journey. Mary always wants to go home. Despite Mary actually sitting in her home of 30 years. As her main caregiver I deal with this every day. I typically take Mary out a walk or a drive till it subsides. Feel free to contact me and ask questions Dementia related. #dementia,#caregiver,#support

This issue takes enormous patience and sometimes we just need to divert her thoughts and address this when she is calm. xx

I just want to say to all children out there that are taking care of their parents that have dementia, THANK YOU 🙏!!! My mom got dementia at the age of 93 and my brother quit his job and moved back to where she lived to take care of her!!!! And I thank GOD for him every day!!! I lived in another state also , but he took it upon himself to take care of her !!! Although my mom has 6 children we all helped out , but my one brother gave up everything to be with her !!! He is her ANGEL!!! Thank you brother for giving her the time she had left special!!! And to all you siblings that are Taking care of a parent or loved one with this disease, may GOD be with you and bless you always!!!!!

I just love your mom..she is soooo sweet. My mom is in a memory care unit and my dad (wheelchair bound) is now in the same building but he lives in a small apartment in assisted living. He spends many hours with my mom in the memory care unit to keep her company. He is heartbroken most of the time because their conversation is much like yours with your mom and the times when my mom is cognizant she cries because she is aware of where she is and wants to go home. My dad explains that they have to live in their 'new' house because he needs more help with daily living activities which gives my mom a break from doing all the physical aspects in helping my dad. My dad promised my mom that they would stay in their house as long as possible and had hired a person to help clean the house, a chef who came over about every 5-6 weeks and batch cooked a few types of meals for dinner, then put in freezer and some in fridge. It helped for awhile but then my mom started to wander the neighborhood a couple of times and that was the beginning of the end of living independently. You have a huge heart of gold and are doing an amazing job taking care of your sweet mom. Big hugs to you both!! xoxo

Maybe make a small book with pictures with words so she can point to what she wants. They also have apps for tablets that have this kind of information.
