Yes, he's reaching towards their feet. In India the young pay respect to their elders by touching their feet, in turn the elders are supposed to lay a hand on their heads and bless them with good wishes called Aashirwaad. Modernised to today, the elders usually stop the young from going all the way down, and choose to embrace them as equals. However in traditional pooja ceremonies and the like the traditional Aashirwaad ritual is still observed properly. (I'm not from India but of Indian descent and even here in Fiji we Indians observe these traditional Hindu practices when appropriate)

First reaction of yours I'm seeing, this is a good reaction especially for someone who is so new to Indian cinema! It seems like you'll catch tropes and cultural references real fast. Once you've seen more movies and you can recognize more actors you'll have to rewatch the Filmfare Awards scene and the song with all the cameos so that you can appreciate it ever more :-) The director of Om Shanti Om, Farah Khan, started as a choregrapher. She choreographed Dil Se (1998), also with SRK, one of my all time fav movies. All the musical numbers are incredible. The movie is a political romance/drama that is a bit divisive but often considered a masterpiece. It was directed by one of the most renowed directors in India (Mani Ratnam). I would recommend watching it 😊 Other SRK movies I'd suggest are My Name Is Khan, Swades and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Sholay is a timeless classic. If you can watch the restored version! Absolutely not the first hindi/bollywood movie you should watch.
