  • With all the chaos going on it the world currently it was good to spend a weekend away up the coast fishing. Met up with a mate and i was certainly out fished and still no Mackeral that I'm after.
    We caught a prized catch among land based fishers and explain how they got the name "Jew Fish" and the strange stones they grow inside their head.

    All fish have otoliths. I have collected them for 40 years and have a big selection of white sea bass and red snapper which the one end is finely serrated.

    Aren’t they the equilibrium stones that keep them swimming right side up? I think they should make a nice pair of earrings.Larger cod have them

    Lol literally ever6 fish on the planet and pretty much al living animals have these. They are called otoliths and are used to maintain balance and sense gravitational pull etc :)

  • @anarchistangler
    @anarchistangler 4 роки тому

    Those otoliths weren't so beautiful cause the fish was still small, but they are an awesome memento when you catch a big one. When I was a boy really impressive jewels could be found in abundance along the high tide line, and in places where sea shells collect.
    Haven't even seen one just lying around for decades. The species has been stuffed on the east coast by overfishing, and especially commercial fishing and habitat destruction in the northern rivers.

      haven't fished it ourselves but snapper can be caught there at times especially when the river is close to breaking through to the ocean or has broken through.

    What is it with these people that catch and release. These weak fish just feed sharks just eat what you catch and stop feeding fish to sharks.
