    Wow Tush, I stumbled onto your UA-cam channel while searching for updates on my old TR250PI. I remember when you bought this car which was a little rough, but in your normal fashion, it’s going to be a stunning restoration. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress and final product!
    Stay safe!

      Hey Peter! Hope you are well. It was more than a little rough 😉. I think it’s going to turn out ok...it will be a nice driver quality in the end. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    To me it all looks good. When the linkage is cleaned up I think you will be surprised that it may look pretty acceptable. Thanks for the video...no complaints , I'm way worse with the camera than you.

    Can't beat the look of three DCOEs! I'll bet you can make that linkage look good enough until you figure something else out. The main thing is that it can open the carbs and be adjusted. Enjoyed hearing your thinking about getting things together. IIRC you have a tripod. It would be great if you had both hands free while showing us stuff and working. Just a thought. Thanks for the update!

    • @cheftush
      @cheftush  3 роки тому

      Hi Bruce. Thanks. Yes, the tripod would be better and I’ll try to use it more. It frustrates me a bit as it’s pretty tight around the car and it always seems to be in the way 😉

      @@cheftush David, I have a thing called a "Magic Arm" from Manfrotto, but there are less expensive ones available. It can be attached to the ceiling or wall, or mounted on a mag base and has 1/4" screw thread on the other end that will hold any standard camera or cell-phone mount. It's also useful for holding tools and measuring instruments,. Amazon.ca has a bunch of them from about CEN$20 to 60. Just FYI. Thanks again for the videos!

    Those webbers certainly make the engine look very busy on that side, I.had forgotten about you having to modify the inner wing to accommodate the air filters, before you said that I was wondering how it was all going to fit in.

    Hi Dave, the triple Weber set up reminds me of the old Meccano sets that many of us had as kids but I appreciate that you need to utilise the stuff that came with the engine. However I think while you have the opportunity to renew most of the fuel bar could you consider running the fuel line around the back of the engine, where it will be less exposed and where there is a lot more free space available...looking very impressive now, although maybe a little “overkill” for a non-track car. Stay safe buddy 👍🇬🇧

    • @cheftush
      @cheftush  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Phil, yes I’ve seen a few guys run the fuel line around the rear of the engine....I think most of these guys are using non stock electric pumps...I’m using the stock mechanical pump so in my mind it makes more sense trying to go around the front of the engine vs looping it back...we will see. I can always switch it up and get a blanking plate for the stock pump and go electric in the future...pretty much the same with the linkage...as mentioned, I need to get the car running for break in at least. I’ll use this original linkage and then when I take the carbs back off to get the body on, I can play around with the linkage then. Cheers, Tush

    These Webbers look great, loving the linkage, seems to work rather well. I was thinking if you fit trumpets inside the filters, won't they restrict air flow?

    • @cheftush
      @cheftush  3 роки тому

      Yes, any filter will restrict airflow somewhat, but it’s a little risky to run with just the trumpets...

  • @ericpfiffner5615
    @ericpfiffner5615 3 роки тому +1

    I agree, that linkage is actually ingenious, it took a lot of time and thought. The car ran with it before so i'd just go with it, you can always mess with it later.

      Hi Eric. Yes, that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to get it running with the existing bits and then swap stuff out later.

    The original way for the Webers to be fitted onto the manifolds used a Thackery Washer with plain washers each end on the bolts to pull the carb onto the O Ring carrier plate (between carb and manifold). Adjustment was a 25 Thou feeler gauge between the coils. I have removed much skin off knuckles setting up lower bolts and Thackerys on Lotus Elans and less difficult Twin Cam Escorts.
    It allowed the carbs to move and be insulated from engine vibration which caused horrendous frothing of the fuel in the reservoir. The better solution would be flexible rubber one piece joints between the manifold and carb as they use 8 smaller bolts and nuts per carburettor but that may well push the air cleaner into the inner wing. And yes they need inlet trumpets.
    Those carb linkages look rather ingenious and very 'period'. Bit of a buff up and paint will sort them out.

    • @cheftush
      @cheftush  3 роки тому

      I have the Thackeray washers installed although I’ve got new soft mounts coming (just ordered $330 worth of parts yesterday) so I’ll reassemble the carbs before start up on the new mounts. I’ve ordered some short trumpets to fit inside the air cleaners as well. Should be here within the next week or so hopefully.

      @1chish 3 роки тому +1

      @@cheftush You can always tell a seasoned classic car restorer - "just another $330 for parts ..."
      Soft mounts are best as long as you have space against that inner wing.

    great work Cheftush, I learned a lot from your video's for my TR250. Looking forward to when you fire-up the engine first time!! I'm currently trying to figure out how to extend my two SU HS6 carbs to a triple setup on my TR250... the manifold I could get from Goodparts in US, but the linkage is the issue... if anyone has experience with this, suggestions are welcome, thanks. :-)

      Triple SUs would be cool. Most of the TRiumph guys will use either the Weber’s or will do triple Zenith Stromberg conversions. Have a look at the Jag guys or the Healey guys as they’d be running triple SUs stock in some applications.

    If all those existing linkage bits don't work properly when you get it running
    could there possibly be a cable-type linkage system available ?

    • @cheftush
      @cheftush  3 роки тому

      Hi Dennis, I do have a cable pull from RATCO as an option to pull the linkage from the throttle shaft to the bell crank under the bottom of the first carb...there are some other options for the levers coming off of the throttle shaft on top of the carburetors but these would have to be solid (adjustable) rose joint/ball joint type connectors.

    Any chance you could tripod your camera at a good spot by the radiator? You could hold up the items you are discussing. The constant movement is hard to watch and not always aimed well. Mustie1 does videos like yours as an example. The engine is beautiful!

    Them Weber’s look awesome, good to see there proper Italian Weber’s, so much better made than the new one you get that are made out of cheese. However that linkage, it’s just making me cringe looking at it, none of the linkage rods are straight. The throttle curve will never run right like that, making one Webber open different to the next. No matter how much you adjust it it won’t run right. I’d be looking for a new linkage if it was me 👍🏻

    • @cheftush
      @cheftush  3 роки тому +1

      Agreed Steve. I told you it looked “custom”😉 I’m going to get it running with the existing linkage set up and then will look at investing in some new components. Weber stuff is extremely expensive to buy....I bought $330 worth of parts yesterday that doesn’t address anything to do with the linkages yet....

      It will have been based on something existing that the builder had seen or used before.... probably worked fine for a home-built track car after a bit of bending and adjusting.
      In the same way I’m sure a neater Version 2.0 permanent solution can be devised !

    big mistake to put weber carbs on this 2.5 litre engine. I put the 40 webers just like yours on my etype Jaguar 4.2 litre engine and they were way to big....too rich and not able to be be adjusted to lean the mixture....stay with the original carbs on this tr 250. I had one and they work great.

    • @cheftush
      @cheftush  3 роки тому

      Hi Barry, I would normally agree with you on a stock engine, these carbs would be overkill. However, my engine has had some head work done to it, has an aftermarket cam and an aftermarket header and free flowing exhaust. These carbs can be set up very effectively with this combination and there are many street driven TR6's out there with this very combination. I am not the first that it for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting.
