All hours are important, I had 2000hrs before I got my first multi job. The goal is to keep building single time until someone hires you on a multi. Then build multi time until you get left seat multi PIC, and keep moving up from there

lol thats because no one wants to leave vancouver. It has always been over supply of pilots here. I left for 8yrs to alberta before I was able to move back home.

I've been instructing for about a year now and base salaries are non-existent at a lot of FTUs in Canada unless you're the CFI/ACFI, in some sort of management position, or work for a college. Industry standard in Southern Ontario for new class 4's seems to be in the $24-$28/hr range. The hourly rates for class 2's and class 1's are significantly higher (some places it is more than double the rate of a class 4) at certain schools, due to high turnover and a shortage of instructors to fill supervisory roles and train new class 4's (pre-2020 of course). Flight schools definitely like to hire people they trained, so if you did your PPL/CPL/Instructor rating there you've got a good leg up when the time comes to apply.

Yes I primarily wanted it for the post secondary education, as at that time airlines still wanted to see that on your resume. The AME route was a good choice, as it taught me much more about aircraft and how they work and how to fix them. I also apprenticed for a few years to earn extra money while finishing my commercial training. So one definitely complimented the other.

Sounds like great on the instructing and learning to teach and teaching to learn. I have have been thinking about it but I knew guys that failed CFI check rides when they were much better than me. How much training is involved to be CFI and estimated costs? The school I went to had no CFI Training program.
I have a separate video covering the costs, so check it out 👍🏻 Like all pilot flight tests, how well you do is a reflection of how well you prepared and where instructed. Nothing is easy in aviation and instructing is no exception. But if you have the motivation and work ethic to prepare properly, there is no reason to fail. Remember, instructing is not just to sit there and log hours, it takes a lot of work and energy to teach and pass along information to students.

No, to legally work in Canada you need a work visa or permanent residency. You should talk to the school who completed your training if they will sponsor your work visa!

Not all schools offer a base salary, especially in big cities, so my pay video from last year is still accurate. However, more schools are starting to offering a base, especially in smaller communities to attract instructors.
Aviator Inspirations I’m confused by one thing - I was informed by most of aviation schools that ATPL integrated program takes 2 years, however it takes only 10 months in Harv’s Air. But we’re considering Harv’s Air because tuition fee is affordable. Could you give me any advice?
There are different integrated courses, some offer more some less, it really doesn't make a difference. As long as you write the ATPL exams as part of the course then that's what's important.

That’s a good question, but I don’t have those statistics unfortunately. I would suggest phoning up some flight schools and asking them if they are looking for instructors or not and I’m sure you will figure it out. You should also consider your cost of living, as both cities are expensive ones to live in.

flight instructors are in high demand but the industry is very cyclical. so don't bet all your cards on it. Also, rules are different to get a work permit for international student pilots if you do a modular program. if your study includes other general courses and you get a degree, its much simpler. do your research before getting indebted... very important

I also contacted many students who followed this path and they said getting a work permit is pretty seamless if instructor rating is done in Canada.

It all depends what your goals are. If you need a job to pay off your student loans and start building hours, then instructing should be the priority. The faster you build hours the faster you can get to a regional, so if you can do university at the same time then that’s great!

You get your aviation medical first (check out my video on it), before starting any training. The ATPL is the airline transport pilots license, and you get that once you build 1500hrs (unless you do an integrated ATPL, I have a video on that also), so don’t worry too much about that one yet

Most entry level flying jobs pay that amount, IF you are lucky enough to even get one and not get started on the ramp or dispatch. The benefit of instructing is that you fly! But yes, most people need part time jobs to survive, unless you can live at home while you teach.
You won't make anywhere near 30K in the Toronto area. The flight school I talked to, pays $22/hour and ZERO base salary. One can expect to make more like $18K to $20K annually. This is quite insane actually, especially since they expect you to keep an open schedule for 40 hours a week, so makes it really difficult to have a second job too! I am from the US, and finished my FAA Instrument and CPL , and am in the process of converting those licenses and ratings to Transport Canada version, and doing Flight Instructor training in Canada. A CFI job in the US pays way way higher. It's truly a terrible situation in Canada!! It certainly does not look like they have ANY shortage of instructors if they are paying such a low wage!! Salaries are sometimes higher in smaller towns and cost of living is lower, but not always. You go where the job is, simple as that.
