Those pride tournaments were like fighting movies from the late 80s and 90s. UFC needs to do those types of tournaments. Imagine if we had a tournament in lightweight division with prime Khabib Nurmagamedov, Conor McGregor, Tony Ferguson, Islam Makhachev, Rafael dos Anjos, Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, Edson Barboza, Anthony Pettis, Nate Diaz, Al Iaquinta, Kevin Lee, Dan Hooker, Michael Chandler. Imagine crazy hype from fans if it's in a huge arena. They could do it on separate events, just like how Pride did it 👍👍
So much Nostalgia for me here. This was peak excitement for me in MMA. I forgot what beasts some of these guys were in their prime. Especially Rampage, and Wanderlei they were diff animals then. The UFC never got either of those guys at their best.
Welcome to the GOLDEN AGE of MMA, people! When Uncle Dana brought Chuck Liddell to PRIDE FC, it was unbelievable! I wish there were "crossovers" such as this today.
Ufc was behind price but now the gap between ufc and pfl is massive. Other than the LHW and HW and maybe one fc flyweight division but those are the 3 divison people aren’t big fans of
This is my favorite tournament, and Final Conflict 2003 is my favorite MMA event. This video just covers the tournament fights, but the cards were both stacked. If you're a new fan, imagine watching Rampage/Chuck and Wanderlei/Yoshida, knowing the two winners will fight 3 hours later (right after Nogueira and Crocop's Interim Championship fight). It's exponentially more exciting than having them fight 3 months later. Even if the athletic commissions today would sanction it, I just don't think many fighters would make that second walk- let alone a third. It took balls of steel, true grit, and, if in being honest, probably some strong drugs, but they all made that walk. In their 8 Grand Prix tournaments, the only fighter who won but had to step out due to an injury was Paulo Filho.
Problem I see is they gave Wand the easy path. Imagine fighting Liddel and Wand the same night. Yoshida wasn't nearly as dangerous as Liddel or even Alistair at the time.
@@sergiosergio5497 Yoshida was unlikely to do damage in defeat, so, in that sense, it was favorable for Wand in the tournament setting. But, at the time, Yoshida was considered VERY dangerous. Nobody respected Wand's BJJ at the time (his first fight with Yoshida helped me appreciate it), so, this was thought to be "Striker vsm Grappler." Yoshida was only 3-0, but he had 3 big wins (also his NC/Win vs. Royce). With his Gold Medal Judo and his gi, he was looked at as a potentially very dangerous matchup for any striker (Wand, Chuck, or Rampage). And, of course, the same could be said in reverse. I was sure that, if Wand won, it'd be a 60 second stomping. There's no way somebody who's never lost a fight yet is going to stand up to the danger of Wanderlei Silva in defeat. Turns out he's tough as all fuck.
@@darklights.burnerMMA can happen in any arena there just needs to be rules based around the arena. You’re just used to seeing a cage. Rogan has thrown out the idea of a basketball court type arena with no walls/ropes just out of bounds (if a fighter backs up out of bounds the get penalized after first warning, if the round ends with someone in top control the next round starts in top control) which would honestly be the truest form of MMA, having nothing but your own skills to dictate your win. No fingers or toes in cage, no using a wall or ropes as leverage for advantageous positions just pure skill.
It happened 3 times, the japanese people were upset when wanderlei KO'd him the first time, even more upset after he got KO'd second time and they wanted revenge at any cost, i mean Sakuraba was their hero, the gaijin killer, who was killed by a gaijin they didn't like that and It got worse
Crazy thing is that they actually mispronounced his opponent's name during the fight, Ali-Star, it's "Ali-Stare".. but yeah cool comment broski dot dot wait for it a few more . . . . .dotty dotterson
Damn I really miss the Pride Grand Prix tournaments! They were stacked and I’m not sure how they managed it but injuries did not plague these events at all. I wish ufc would try a few smaller tournaments as it would add a bit of excitement

Shame they don't hold tourneys like this anymore. Pride was epic in Making the event feel like such a huge event. UFC will always be a very far distant 2nd.
This is probably one of the smartest things the UFC channel has done.

Pride > UFC. So dope when Silva stood on the ropes at the end and it raining confetti everywhere.
Crazy to think it’s been 20+ years since this satisfying event occurred. 😅
How I miss Pride FC/GP!!! Pride is the best ever!

Man everything about pride was beyond epic, soundtrack, audience, fighters, japanese announcers, wish i could be there and see it live ❤❤❤
PrideFC had the best fighter walkouts
This Tokyo Dome was better than The Sphere imo.
This was in the Saitama, but both are iconic in their own way💯
Edit: Didn’t notice they did FC 03, too. Lol.
Fedor Emelianenko was the king of Pride 💯
Игорь Вовчанчин лучше 🎉
Yes… but Arona beat him that day
So did Kazushi Sakuraba

It’s good to see some of the young folks will be able to see how much of a beast Rampage was and the endurance for 10 min round was crazy.
They had silva at his best for a few fights

no elbows to the head ever in pride. and they took out knees on the ground and soccer kicks on the ground every other show for a while.
