Steve's blatant jealousy when Eddie comes up is just so great. Like, he really feels like Dustin likes Eddie better, and it absolutely hurts his feelings. Dustin's "I never said that" is also the perfect amount of acknowledgement that a kid would give what to him is a ridiculous thought. Meanwhile, Eddie is very aware that he is merely Dustin's second favorite and is avidly jealous of Steve.

well they are going through a lot of stressful situations at that moment with a friend who is at risk of dying, also the moment of steve realising he went too far with the teeth thing does show that while they have their arguments they still are friends and care for each other
