- Kalihi is often depicted as a ghetto and dangerous location, and with it having some of the poorest/most violent areas in all of the state of Hawai'i, it does not come without warrant.

The negative titles associated with Kalihi often times dehumanizes and stigmatizes those who live here. These interviews were aimed to show a glimpse of the heart and goodness the people of Kalihi has to offer, and that there is hope and love within its community.
From KPT, Mayor Wrights, Kam IV, Lanakila, and many more areas, this video captures a wide range of those who live in Kalihi.
We love Kalihi, and we believe the land and its people to be great and worthy of honor.

I was born and raised in Kalihi... There were gangs, drugs, and violence in Kalihi and what I got from living there is to treat all people with respect, we don't know their background and what they are going through! By the grace of God, I had a made the decision to get an education and get out of the neighborhood, but my heart will always be Kalihi. If I can suggest, the community more support for the keiki, (i.e. after school programs, a place where they can gather and hang out). They also needs Jesus. Thank you for video... it doesn't matter where you came from, God can transform a community like Kalihi. Also, another valuable skill that I have is being with people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. I can easily talk and relate to people at different socio-economic backgrounds.
Kalihi valley, Kalihi palama, kpt, kam iv, lanakila, kams across FHS, kaahumanu, gulick, mayor wrights, I’ve come across so many people in the same community with same goals & values. It’s hardship & struggle that engages us to be humble, or insane but mostly humble.
I was born and raised in Kalihi and will always be proud to say so!
