Those roads have been collapsing since before I was born in 1955.
Hey, let's go find crumbling oceanfront cliffs and build expensive houses on it!
Precisely. Make sure to keep the rest of the taxpaying riffraff out of there, too. Can't have them thinking they own the place just cuz they pay to keep up our private area..
There is an 0.08 mile stretch with official signage on Palos Verdes Drive that has *"Constant Land Movement."* That sign has been there for at least 40 years. I wonder how many residents - who travel over that road daily/weekly - take that sign seriously. It would be prudent for all who live in that area to pack it up, cut their losses, and move. The problem will not reverse itself nor can it be "fixed." But the delusion seems to be real with all involved...
Hope no federal money goes to fix this problem.
No bailout. The area has been unstable for years.
I agree 👍 with the reporter Garcetti and Karen bass and Gavin newsom have destroyed los angeles
Sorry people, you've known for years that the place is cracking up and sliding down. Pay for it yourselves with your insurance and cash.
Palos Verdes has a been falling off the map for years. I can remember that when I was a child, we would go to Marineland. Going North, on the left, houses were rolling away with that side of the road. That was back in the 50s.
great story, rich people problems, oh my
Waste of money. Just give it up.
Those are beautiful homes! With spectacular views.....but they are crumbling down...
@@EricUnderwood-v2x You cannot stop a landslide. It is the same concept as an avalanche. It will just get heavier and keep slipping. Very sad for those people.
Well when you build your house on a hill this happens. I don't understand why ca allows people to live in areas that see substantial damage with any type of weather, whether it's fire, rain, or snow someone's house is always in danger.
Money. And, as you can see here in this video, zero responsibility - they'll just get everyone else who can't live there to pay for it anyway..
Popular way of doing things in the US these days, mooching off your fellow citizens who cannot share in the same benefits or privileges that you do, yet make them pay for..
Screw them!!!!
Obviously if you can afford to live in PV you don't need taxpayer money to help you, it's called self-reliance rich people
@@thejuicerr They're a helluva lot richer than the overwhelming majority of the country's taxpaying public that they want to mooch off of.
@barbarakauppi9915 Most are middle to upper middle class. FYI - that's who pays the most income and property taxes. The lower class hardly pays taxes. I do sense some jealousy in you though.
If you live on a hill, expect problems from erosion/weather. Buy insurance as a CYA!
They are wealthy residents who knew there were real problems over a year ago when big cracks appeared in many concrete streets and roads.
A year ago?? Try 60, 70 years ago when they began building on it.. It's been like that since forever.
You better put a red tag on that area there
PV South, or at least part of it, has been undergoing repairs for decades.
Yup, I used to drive PV south every day, it's a mess, always has been., people who have homes along PVS cant even get home owners insurance.
Those folks have plumbing problems due to the instability of the land in that area.
@@encinobalboa Not the whole area; the development that's in trouble now has been there for over 50 years.
everyone wants government out of our life until things effect us and then we scream, "where is my federal funding !"
so these houses get red tagged but that mansion hanging off a cliff doesnt get red tagged??? Money talks!
They asking for tax payers money to continue living a leverage life....
usually before a massive displacement in movies, there are these sort of warning signs that tell of impending doom.
Bruh, looks like a massive landslide about to giveaway.
Our society cracks me up. People think that you can genie blink and everything will be fine instantly.
UMMMM!
That's the price of living in the hills😊
It’s not a matter of money it’s matter environmental impact, are you kidding me these people are going to lose their homes and worried about the impact, it’s obvious the impact will be worse if they do nothing. Where’s John Stossel when you need him, “Give me a break”
Duct tape and bailing wire ...
"we keep asking for things. why is noone coming" - as the construction crew works in the background. Everyone has problems get over yourself.
I would sell my PV home quickly and get outta Dodge.
I don’t think it is up to taxpayers. Just like if we suffered a major earthquake here in LA. You get a special loan if you don’t have insurance.
Although if Newsom is going to run for President he could give away more taxpayer money.
Illegals come first, they need the money more. Shame on people/U.S. citizens requesting money/help. Who needs it more?
That lady complaining about receiving Federal Funds…. Why would one purchase a house in that area that is prone to land movement!!!
Take swimming lessons. 🏊🏊🏊♂️
"Fix more repairs"??? Just abandon those areas like Flint Michigan.
They want fair market value before the damage. If you know the area it could be anywhere from $1 million to $3 million per home.
There is one section of roadway that is constantly sinking/slipping and being repaired. For decades.
Put those houses on the "market" and see how many offers they get. I bet people will bid no more than a half a mil.@@aftertheheadlines
There nothing anybody can do. this is bigger than human effort. Get the funding to move out or put you homes on 16" I-beams like in Portuguese Bend.
Sixteen **inches**?!😂... your statement reminds me of that scene in 'This Is Spinal Tap' .... 😂😂😂😂😂
The web height of the beam. Length is the house side or span under it. I've inspect the homes in the Portuguese Bend slide area. When thinking of buying one a few years ago.@@jmason2838
You all build your Expensive Homes on Unstable Land. Don't feel sorry for Stupid Rich People.
It's like they build in forests and then get mad when they burn, then they live in mountains then the snow collapses their houses and now the rain is bringing down their cliff side and hill side homes. All of these are things that happen in nature and yet they build here and cry and complain and want help.
@@sareptasweetie1978 Totally agree. Nature is Stronger and Can not be Tamed.
@@sareptasweetie1978 So the fed shouldn't help with any natural disaster?
@@thejuicerr This is not a natural disaster. Not an Earthquake, hurricane, wildfire, or anything remotely close to it. To try to claim that is just plain fraud, mooching on the backs of actual victims. That hillside has always been moving, always, with or without a little normal rain. But it's prime real estate with big$$ all around, so they built on it anyway and want you to pay for maintaining it..
Keep on seeding the clouds.....🤫🇺🇸
Yes, vacate your homes entirely and don't come back. Land like that should be left for wildlife or public space and not homes. This shouldn't be a federal issue, hand the problems yourselves.
Cut your losses. No one in their right mind would want shifting land . It will sink further.
never seen storm after storm after storm non stop all winter, then they head our way midwest
Expensive, insured, neighborhood the producers employer must live there as many roads throughout California, in areas where people have less to no insurance and no money in the bank to buy food, shelter, transportation. Show damage in middle to low income area a wall.
call the Marvel Heroes to get them fixed right away.
You live in palos verdes you obviously have money move to a less risky place why does the tax payers have to pay for your misfortune, you took that risk you’re responsible.
Horrible mayor
It's unfortunate, but Perhaps it's time to move out. 🤷♀
That place is made on soft land
she sounds like a happy wife
No taxpayer money to fix their problem. They need to pay for their choices.
The city not helping the richest side of town you know ow darn well they aren’t even thinking about out the poorest.
"This is not new" then why are you still living here? Since when does fed need to worry about where people live?
C'mon, you live on a cliff. How you think cliffs became cliffs? It's because the footing of the hill gets worn out by waves. Why take money from the rest of us to pay for the rich?
S O L 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Nahh....it'll be fine with some duct tape and bailing wire...it'll hold till summer then the fires will come....oh I'm awful today
The whole hill will collapse (Sand foundation)
tupac did say the earth was going to swallow up the rich......lol JK omg its just a joke dont get bent
😱😱😱😱😱
HA HA
Well, they have the money to live there just like the wokes in Malibu every number of years when it burns. Collect your homeowners insurance, and go to another rich neighborhood.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol the long necks on all 3 of them😂
😂😂😂
How will this affect Lebron James legacy?
These wealthy residents are used to snapping their fingers and getting results, well not this time.
Homes in this area are valued around the same as homes in Compton. Not all of PV is mansions in gated communities.
@@MikeC2K10 Don't be ridiculous. RPV median home price is a full million dollars more than in Compton. Sheesh... With that extraordinary tax base, let RPV fix it. No need for them to parasite off the Compton taxpayers, or anyone else..
