1:00 👏 Finally somebody doing what we all should. The highway code says "keep left unless overtaking". The roads are rammed and we keep begging for more lanes and then robotic sheep leave a whole lane empty.
Even though lane one was empty you were still breaking the law by undertaking. I don't really blame you, it's about time the police clamped down on such stupid inconsiderate drivers.
And here lies the big debate on undertaking. Many professional drivers i speak to about that situation, state a undertake involves a lane change once passed the slower moving vehicle in the overtaking lane. Bear in mind the speed limit was 70 mph and I only got up to 60mph and once in the driving lane ( lane 1 ) I didn't move into a overtaking lane once passed so it isn't undertaking , it's progressing in a open driving lane well under the speed limit. Undertaking involves changing lane to gain advantage then moving back into the overtaking lane once passed. Passing on the left in slow moving congested traffic is allowed , that's basically what happened. Nothing illegal at all I'm afraid.
@@DannyDashcam You are permitted to overtake on the left if the traffic is moving 'in slow moving queues'. Then of course we get into varying interpretation of what is 'slow moving'. If they're doing 50 on a 70mph road, could this be 'slow moving'? The offence would be careless driving, but I'd be willing to argue. If each vehicle on your right is properly observed and assessed, you can make a decision about the risk of them moving left. In many cases we can be almost certain that they won't move, so I'd defend any careless driving charge. Each situation is different, but I'd have probably trundled gently past them too.
@@DannyDashcam Interesting debate. The problem imo is that is a so called 'smar motorway' which are highly dangerous I think. t try to avoid them if possible.
@@Hieronymous69 I am a hgv driver by profession, personally I feel the smart motorways do raise the danger level to drivers who aren't as aware of updated driving legislation and too many are distracted in the cabin with technology . The idea of smart Motorways is good but falls down in the lack of driver updated training. I feel everyone should be re assessed on a regular basis , maybe every 10 years in line with driving licence renewal which would also enable updates to new legislation that arises in the last 10 years.

Danny, you put out some great videos and consistently expose others’ poor driving. However, you seem to be a serial “undertaker” in this video at least. 🥴🤔
The undertake involves changing lane to the left to.pass a vehicle in a overtaking lane then once passed moving back into the overtaking lane, if you hold the driving lane ( bear in mind all other lanes on a motorway are overtaking lanes NOT driving lanes) and are u der the speed limit its classed as progression in a open lane not undertaking. Sitting in a overtaking lane is a specific offence but under enforced currently.
I'll explain it better here, I am a full time hgv driver as a profession. I see middle lane hoggers every day doing 40 to 50 mph daydreaming, am I supposed to hold back in the driving lane behind the vehicle I lane 2 ( overtaking lane ) or carry on at 56mph and pass them in my open lane. Of course I can.
Danny, love the quality and sound. Did that lightning hit anywhere? I have seen it strike, not pretty, once too many times. Am I getting old or are lightning storms becoming more frequent? I had to laugh at that van sailing up on the police line! LOL Would have been even funnier if one of them had pulled him over! (Grin)
