I struggled with suicide during ages 14-19, J dilla kept me alive 2024 update: if you're dealing with this issue, please seek help an abundance of resources are available and you're worth all of em
As a Dangelo fan, I just knew I wasn't going to like it, and I know what Dilla does, but the pocket that he chooses to lay this song in is just genius, thats the only word that comes to mind fully, this is obsurd smh
Unlike the great DJ Premier and the green-eyed bandit Erick Sermon, he didn't force the Hip Hop sound on his remix, he kept the R&B presence with the wurlitzer sample and bassline yet the snare and that kick made it into a dope Hip Hop remix
Dilla had a way of taking other people's tracks (even the great D'angelo's!), flipping them and then saying "that's dope, but isn't this what you were really trying to achieve?" and serving them with a remix that completely changes the mood of the original and makes it better. He hears shit that was never there in the first place.
I remember picking this record up, by pure chance, for about three quid. Wasn't really paying attention at the time and grabbed it for the Woohah Remix....Nearly collapsed when I heard this....One of the straight up, most beautiful, sexy as fuck tunes of all time! J Dilla, you were always on point, but on the day you made this, you must have been taking the piss out of everyone else. This is what a tune sounds like when you fucking nail it! Hiphop and soul in perfect unity....I have had a drink, but I'd still stand by what I say in the cold light of day. Riddim!!!!!
I heard this instru on a Funky DL mixtape, but never really knew where the OG beat came from. Finally heard the vocal version with D'Angelo on the radio and came straight here. Thanks for posting💖
To know what was going on in Dilla's mind is beyond way past composition!! You really can't explain that!! LIVE IN ETERNAL SPIRIT ALWAYS ANGEL ANCESTOR J.DILLA 👊🏽 🙏🏽
Fuck this is so good. Bought the vinyl a while back when i was down in ATL, making beats, and engulfed in the world of hip hop, discovering gems every day.
Amazing. It's hard to take any songs off of Dangelo's albums and rework them cause they're just so uniquely arranged that only another seer in the genre would know what to do. Knxwledge has a remix of The Root that some of yall might dig. It's no original but it's a pretty interesting approach to the song.
I like this as a remix! Its got that feel to it. There's something reminiscent and laid back about the D'angelo version which is more in keeping with the lyrics. This is more like something you wanna move to. both good for different purposes. D's a multi-instrumentalist so I've no doubt he could have created a similar sound if its what he was going for but would absolutely love and respect Dilla's artistry. 👊 to them both. Talented artists x

It's one of those tracks that's really sparse, just the drum with that bumper bass that lugs the groove along, that sampled ice cream truck jazz vibraphone that you'd really swear was played specifically for this song, and the vocals, but it is FIRE. The whole unreleased record this appears on has this jazz vibe - the mix of Woo Hah is very akin to this

D'Angelo is sacred ground for me. Thought I wouldn't like this, but it's Dilla, don't know why it doubted
He remixed this song and didn't lose the vibe, PERFECT!
Unlike the great DJ Premier and the green-eyed bandit Erick Sermon, he didn't force the Hip Hop sound on his remix, he kept the R&B presence with the wurlitzer sample and bassline yet the snare and that kick made it into a dope Hip Hop remix
Hard hittin beat, soft rhodes and smooth vocals. What a combination.
Dilla had a way of taking other people's tracks (even the great D'angelo's!), flipping them and then saying "that's dope, but isn't this what you were really trying to achieve?" and serving them with a remix that completely changes the mood of the original and makes it better. This is very true but especially so for this song.
true definition of REMIX!
Now a remix is just adding a new rapper. How far we’ve come.
He was PHENOMENAL!
Dilla remixing a song you produced must have stung a little lol. Oh great HE’S doing the remix

The magic of the Fender Rhodes electric piano, as presented by two artists that routinely practiced its power - J.D. and D'Angelo.

Dilla really did this song justice and then some. can't believe I've never heard this remix before; imo it's just as soulful as the original
When I hear this song, it gives me a sense of serenity.

This is crazy... sounds like an alternate version of his Dreamy instrumental... Merry Christmas
its the same sample
that's dope.. I feel like he rarely used the same sample twice; maybe he made this the same day he made Dreamy =)
There's mad unreleased beats with the same samples used, he probably just remade the song since he's so good at cutting etc
