we had a football player christian eriksen who also had a heart attack during a game? he was fitted with a pace maker and after some time recovering he's now back playing football in the premier league so it can be done and i hope this young man can and will make a speedy recovery...my prayers go to him and his family

@@dwaynechalmers9478 There are millions, literally MILLIONS of professional athletes worldwide. 1,000 cardiac events in athletes since covid is probably statistically low--I mean, FIFA found that there were an average of 125 deaths of association footballers a year from cardiac events between 2014-2018, so if we look at "since covid started" that would be about 350-375 footballers alone, and that's based specifically on data from FIFA from before covid was a thing. Add up all the athlete deaths at all levels in all other sports, especially high cardio ones, and that would easily get you to 1,000.
Frankly, 1,000 athletes seems pretty low, all things considered.

10 years ago today I went to work and had a massive heart attack which they had to revive me before the ambulance during the ambulance and then after in the hospital, they gave me a ten percent chance of making it, after putting me in a coma for three days to rest, my heart, then waking up and having a quadruple bypass and after that was said and done they gave me about a year. It’s 10 years later and I’m here and strong. all things are possible with Christ. Keep the faith keep praying.

This is a good time to update our CPR skills. I haven't taken a class in 20 years or more. I pray Damar Hamlin will be okay. Many prayers to his family and teammates.
That's a great reminder Julie. But I fear their hearts are so ravaged by the inflammation that when they go, they go. Damar had an elite medical team 20 seconds from him when it happened, they began CPR within 60 seconds, and he's still being kept alive by machines right now.
I was a 13 year old boy in 1971 and was at the Lions/Bears game when Chuck Hughes died on the field. I was never so traumatized until last night when I saw that young man being given CPR. My thoughts and prayers go out to Damar, his family and the entire Buffalo Bills family. Detroit is pulling for you!
This is heartbreaking. Seeing all the players, staff, and fans on both sides come together during this tragedy gives me hope for the world. I wish countries could come together like this for a better society. Sending lots of prayers to this man, his family, and his team.

Quit calling this an "injury." An injury is when you fall and break your leg or even your neck. This man had a cardiac arrest! There are not hundreds, but thousands of hits/tackles/impacts like this every WEEK in the NFL. None, absolutely none of them, ZERO PERCENT of the time, result in a cardiac arrest. And if this man's cardiac arrest WAS solely and directly caused by making that tackle, it will be the first time something like that has EVER happened in football history. Remember that. All you people who want to blame the sport and the NFL, remember that. You are 300× more likely to get struck by lightning twice in the same day than a football player is to have a cardiac arrest during a game. This is awful. It's tragic. It's unprecedented. Uche Nwaneri (former Jaguar) collapsed and died of a heart attack at 38 yesterday and Dax Tejera also 38 died Friday of a sudden heart attack. As a football (soccer) fan, I can name at least 10 players off the top of my head who suffered cardiac arrests in the time I watched a lot of games (late 90s to 2010s).
Hamlin’s cardiac arrest was caused by blunt force in the wrong place at the wrong time. This has always happened in car and industrial accents. Take your tinfoil hat off and properly research it instead of listening to these clowns spouting nonsense about the rate of cardiac arrests dramatically increasing. It’s simply not true.

@@mw7584 The ones that stick out in my memory are Marc-Vivien Foe, Robbie James, Fabrice Muamba, Phil O’Donnell, David Longhurst, Antonio Puerta, Davide Astori, a Hungarian lad at Benfica who I think was called Ferer or Feher, Nouri at Ajax, Iker Casillas, Tiote the former Newcastle player (don’t remember his first name), Serginho, Paul Sykes (local to me) and Daniel Yorath (not a pro player but son of the great Terry Yorath).
There are also various players who were lucky enough to discover long-standing heart issues before they became an emergency, such as Kanu, Sami Khadira, Dani Carvahal, Lilian Thuram, Sergio Aguero and Daley Blind. The same could’ve happened to them at any moment.
And finally there’s the fact that the two most high-profile instances post-Covid (Christian Eriksen and Charlie Wyke) were not vaccinated.
Anyway, that’s just a few examples off the top of my head. I’m sure there are others that I’ve forgotten about, but I’m just off a long flight and can’t be arsed googling for the ones I missed. Quite keen to start the drive home and sleep!
