The Happy Prince is Rupert Everett's De Profundis. I cannot remember a film I enjoyed more in recent years. He made some complicated directorial choices, but he managed to pull them off. I loved every bit. So, honest, so witty, so profound and real. Bravo!

There should not be a review that does not include Rupert’s own near destruction (his career) when he came out. He knows this story intimately, BRAVO!

Mark Kermode does more than teeter on the brink of self-indulgence, he leaps off and plunges into an abyss echoing with the sound of his own pretentious babble. Why didn't someone shut him up?

If you don't like his style why watch? This is hardly different to any of his other reviews and the reason most people come to watch is to get a thoughtful review.

I've never seen any of his other reviews. I won't be seeking them out either.

Good for you. I really don't understand your objection to his style but each to their own I guess.

Huolalupin The "pretentious babble" is the only reason I watch and love his reviews. It is all a matter of taste. It seems rather futile to get worked up over it. Just find reviewers whom you like more.

There's nothing heroic about buggering teenage boys. Give me a break!

Yep, but given that an alternative for teenage boys was being shoved up a chimney literally - not surprising that some chose this path, and still do. Times change and we change with them, hopefully.
