The Cat Distribution System is amazing. They're deposited in homes like Christmas presents from Santa. It's magic.

I think I read the best "not my cat" moment today - when the folks at Amazon in California opened a returned box from Utah and found a cat in with the returned items. The cat apparently crawled into the box while its owner went to fetch the tape to close it up, and he never saw the cat in there. Nobody in transit realized it either until Amazon people opened it. Kitty is home now, I believe.
I thought my husband was a riot when he accidentally mailed his glasses to somebody because they fell from his pocket into the box (he never got them back), but at least he never mailed the cat.

How… do you not realize your cat is in the box when taping it? Surely the weight difference would give it away…

We’ve rescued many kittens. We get them dewormed, neutered, vaccinated…we had one that came in in fall 1993. The vet thought he was six months old. Our son named him Copper, since he was an orange tabby. He came in in fall 1993. For a “few nights” because it was getting colder. (Hubby was dubious since he’d never had a cat). Copper ended up inside for more than 17 years. He died in spring 2011. And when he died, he died in his daddy’s arms. Yes, my hubby did a complete flip about cats. Copper changed daddy’s mind. Copper changed daddy’s heart. He died at 18 of liver failure. He was a WONDERFUL cat. We’ve had cats (plural) since then. We now have three who let us live with them. They’re fantastic! We ❤ cats!!

HA! I've got all these folks beat! A few years ago, we moved into a public housing duplex, where we weren't supposed to have any pets. Not long after, there was a scratching at the door, and a pretty mostly black tortoiseshell cat asked for a snack. We didn't have much to offer but gave her some milk, which she drank quickly, then asked for pets. We obliged, and she left. Next day she was back with a second tortie (this one gray). We put down some milk and the first cat stood back until the other one drank her fill, only then coming forward to finish the milk. Then pets, and they both left. They started coming by every day, so we went ahead and bought cat food. They both decided they live here now. Long story short, three years later we have 24 cats. (The landlord gave up on the "no pets" thing.) Nobody owns a cat. They own us. (Anybody want kittens? I have plenty to go around! (Moral of the story: beware of stray cats!)

That's awesome 😎 Is there a trap-neuter/spay-release program in your area? There was a street cat in my neighborhood that sprayed _everything everywhere_ starting in the spring of last year. I figured he was a young tomcat out breeding and marking his territory. There are a lot of strays and a couple neighbors who leave out water and feed them once a day. We don't have any TNR program here, just a low cost Humane Society program, but it fills up fast. The way it works is you have to call at the beginning of the month, at 8AM sharp, to get an appointment for a Tuesday or Thursday of the _following_ month. If you get an appointment at all, you have to have the animal at the clinic at 7:30AM on the day of, and pick it up at 4PM that day. It's nice for low income people who want to be responsible pet owners, but the appointments fill up fast. One of my neighbors who feeds the strays said he was on the phone by 8AM on the first day they started taking appointments for the following month, but by the time he got through, all appointments were filled. He did that for 4 months, and finally called the Humane Society in different counties just out of desperation. He was able to get an appointment at one of those, but he doesn't drive, so he had to find someone to take him and he had to pay for the fuel. He's on disability, so this was really a big act of charity on his part. He was able to keep the most prolific breeding female in his apartment while he waited for the appointment, but unfortunately she got out a couple times, and when they did the pre-op check, found she was pregnant. He had to tell them to do the procedure anyway, because she had had numerous litters previously while he was trying to get an appointment for her all those months. He had been able to get those kittens into homes, but he wasn't able to take her back home to wait until she delivered, and then hope to get through to make another appointment, and then wait a at least a month to get her in, only to go through it all over again, because she was always in heat from January or February through October. And unfortunately, because he had to pay his friend for fuel to get there, he didn't have the money to vaccinate the cat against the common diseases. I think rabies vaccine is included in the spay and neuter price, because that's a legal ordinance for dogs, and they just include it for cats. So that neighbor did his best, and was only able to help one of the many strays. Meanwhile, this young tomcat was spraying everywhere, and he started spraying doorways and windows. I had my window open on a warm evening, and he sprayed _into_ my dining room _while I was eating dinner!!!_ So whenever I heard or saw him coming, I had to race to get windows closed. Other neighbors just kept theirs closed and ran AC all the time, but I want fresh air and don't want to pay a higher electric bill, so I keep mine open. I didn't realize he was spraying on my door jambs until I kept smelling cat pee the minute I got in my home. I traced it to the mud mat inside my door, lifted it, and it was soaking wet under the rubber backing! His pee had gotten through the cracks of the door and puddled up under the mat! Then I tried cleaning it all with enzyme cleaner specifically for cat pee, but it was too strong. I ended up having to throw my heavy duty, not-cheap mud mat into the dumpster. I also had to have surgery last summer, so his antics made it really hard on me, because I wasn't allowed to do the cleaning during my 6-week recovery. It drove me nuts. So I determined to take him to get him neutered somewhere. I tried the Humane Society program, but couldn't get through to get an appointment. I also wasn't sure how to make sure I'd have him in custody to get him to the appointment if I ever got one. I called my son's established veterinary clinic for advice, and they gave me a protocol: Catch the cat, call for an appointment, and they could get him in within days for an initial exam, but then I'd have to hold him until the surgery could be scheduled. So I did that. And at his initial exam he tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus 😢 He had either gotten it from his mother if she caught it around the time he was conceived, or he had gotten it from the other cats he was always fighting. The clinic insisted that he cannot be released back into the community, because it's a nasty horrible disease that's spread through fighting. So I'm stuck with this cat. The Humane Society program doesn't test for any of that as far as I know, so I would have released him and been none the wiser. But the vet clinic is focused on limiting the spread, and they do work with feral and stray animals in the area. It's their specialty. That's how my son came to be one of their clients, because he rescues animals off the streets.

I went out for a long walk one day, pushing my toddler in a stroller, and was pregnant with my second baby. We lived in a newer subdivision that was surrounded by vacant land. I walked to the edge of the subdivision, and this random black cat jumped out of some bushes and began walking along with me. My toddler was greatly amused and kept calling the kitty. I was not so amused. I hoped the cat would leave us before we got home, but when I opened my door, the cat went in ahead of me and made herself at home.

2:07 Correct. You do not have a cat.
You appear to have about 5.
At 5:05 That just might be a Robert Kitty!
I sit here watching this with my Buddy on my lap.
I got him when he walked out of the blackberries and asked to be my Buddy.

😊 I have a orange female cat, she found me Thanksgiving night of 2019...her name is Lydia...love this cat to the moon and back a million times...she was a kitten then who had gotten up on a roof and couldn't get down so I rescued her and keep her indoors now.❤❤❤❤

Cats are mysterious animals and can shift dimensions so doors mean nothing to them. And they choose YOU not the other way around.

Well all I can say is, of course you don't own a cat. They pick you as a person worthy to live with them. Now feed me, give occasional pet pets on me, ensure there is time for us to play, make available comfy sleep area for me and occasional treats would be good also. Now get moving I am now your roommate. 😸🐾👏✌️😍🌅❤
