Largest is smilodon 415kg. Panthera atrox is lot smaller than Smilodon with max around 350kg. The old hyperbolic numbers are invalid now. Smilodon is largest with 425kg vs 250kg Dinocrocuta. Both can 100% do devastating damage to each other cause both are extremely specialised in different class of weaponry. I would absolutely love a brutal survival/horror game of being a troop of early hominids just trying to make it with monsters like these... just getting hunted and only being able to distract, throw stones, or flee to trees - no chance against a beast like this. Incredible our ancestors were able to make it through thousands of years sharing a space with things like these - being noticed would be akin to death.
3:31 Is there any fossil evidence of that? Other than waiting for porpoises to swim near some rocky outcrop near the ocean to pounce on them I don't see any too many scenarios where this would be normal.
It is unlikely, but the artist stated the drawing was inspired by the discovery of cetacean remains in Spain's Cueva Victoria. The artist said as well it's more likely that they were already dead when the hyenas dragged them to the caves, but took a creative liberty of hyenas hunting porpoises. If you want the original source of the drawing, it's "Sea Hyenas" by Hodari Nundu.
Here's a different take: Unlike no other is a double negative. Meaning this hyaena was just like all other animals then and now. Truly a magical creature. Yeah, Simba is getting merc'd. :)
I like how many people have issues to the inaccuracies of The Lion King; like with the hyenas and Simba growing to full size by eating bugs. When it's all fiction
Dinocrocuta is one of my favorite prehistoric animals, especially since I like hyenas and this animal was a hyena on steroids and then some! When you see a dinocrocuta skull next to that of a huge male Kodiak or polar bear you can really see just how impressive the hyena is. The dinocrocuta skull is roughly the same size, but with much bigger and nastier teeth. There probably weren't too many bears that would have wanted to mess with this creature either, especially if it ran in packs. Speaking of bears, you ought to do a video on Agriotherium, which was a huge highly predatory African bear that had one of the highest bite forces of any carnivorous land mammal. Another terrifying prehistoric creature that is among my faves are the entelodonts. They would have had one heck of a bite, and the largest of them were bison sized. Imagine a flesh eating bison with the jaws of a saltwater crocodile!
I’d love to see you do a video comparison all of the ancient mammal super predators like the giant bear vs saber tooth cat vs Dino hyena vs mega dog etc
I remember 2 or 3 years ago I had a crazy dream I was in Whiterun hold running around and this exact creature hounded me until I was above it beyond reach. It was so vivid dude I swear I didn’t know this thing even existed ☹️

@@Mob-q1o Spotted Hyenas actually have fission fusion societies, they generally only group up when taking down large prey like zebra or buffalos, or facing off against lions. However they've been observed taking down prey as large as wildebeest on their own, and they're about evenly matched with leopards.
Make a video on top 10 largest or deadliest mammal predators ❤❤❤
Mmmm… maybe this wasn’t the video to watch while I’m eating breakfast x) some of theses illustrations damn! But thanks so much for including the artists names on screen, as an illustrator I’m always super happy when I see creators do that :D (I love hyenas I found them super cute T_T)
1:05 2 of my fav animals together
:0
That thumbnail is horrifying! Very fitting for the video.
Honestly, hyenas aren’t really under dogs. They are a dominant apex predator in Africa and only face real threat from a multitude of lions.
“If you’re like me…”
No, I didn’t put “than” when I clearly meant “then” in my video title.
Yeah what’s the deal. Doesn’t sound like an ESL speaker. So is it written and produced by an ESL person and read by an actor or AI? Or is this guy ignorant?
Given that hyenas are matriarchal, it would be more accurate to call it the *queen* of all hyenas
The spotted hyena is matriarchal. However other species of hyenas are not. I believe the stripe hyena the male is bigger
@Danny-mg1hu Actually, they're solitary or live in pairs! There's no patriarchal or matriarchal structure for them, so my point still stands
No, your point doesn’t still stand as if they’re neither matriarchal nor patriarchal then it wouldn’t be accurate to call it the queen of all hyenas.
Spotted ones, anyway.
@@Danny-mg1huNot particularly. There is very little dimorphism in striped hyenas and their relationship to each other is cooperative and monogamous.
Hyenas are one of my favorite animals
Theyre friend shaped for me
Walk into the mouth of a T-rex in heat
@ziphy_6471 what😭
I mean i like t-rexes too so i dont mind ig
@@LolaTheDragonOfficial. How big do you think a t-rex d is?
@@ziphy_6471 a t-rex is about 4.8 to 5 and a half meters in height and about 11 to 12 meters in lenght :3
I love dinosaurs
@@LolaTheDragonOfficial. I can fit it
I would absolutely love a brutal survival/horror game of being a troop of early hominids just trying to make it with monsters like these... just getting hunted and only being able to distract, throw stones, or flee to trees - no chance against a beast like this. Incredible our ancestors were able to make it through thousands of years sharing a space with things like these - being noticed would be akin to death.
Check out a review of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. It comes very close to what you are asking for.
The runtime of Lion King would definitely be shorter 😅
Except the lions are switched with smilodons. Then its back to squar one😅
hyenas are my favourite animal c: thanks for the vid!
I was already subscribed to both you and North 02, happy to see the collaboration. I love your content! Thank you so much 💓
3:31 Is there any fossil evidence of that? Other than waiting for porpoises to swim near some rocky outcrop near the ocean to pounce on them I don't see any too many scenarios where this would be normal.
I was just going to comment about this scene. Also, those porpoises are so tiny! Did these really exist? They’re so cute!
1:27 "They've found an animal ***unlike no other***"
"Similar to this but a big freaking hyena." 😂😂😂
New favourite murder critter unlocked! Thanks for the fascinating video!
I rlly watching vids like these, going into deep detail of one animal in a kids movie
Prehistoric Times must be the hardest of eras
An animal "unlike no other"? That's a very general animal! 1:26
Literally was about to comment that then saw this with timed comments
Here's a different take:
Unlike no other is a double negative. Meaning this hyaena was just like all other animals then and now. Truly a magical creature. Yeah, Simba is getting merc'd.
:)
The frozen-crested killer, Cryolophosaurus, next week please.
Dinocrocuta had a large amount of aura. lol
I like how many people have issues to the inaccuracies of The Lion King; like with the hyenas and Simba growing to full size by eating bugs.
When it's all fiction
0:09 nah I love hyenas they awesome! One of my favorite animals.
1:43 that was on purpose, right? '... such as cats...' Immediate derpdoink
4:44 Well... we at least can hope that this giant hyena would be more like Jassiri. Then there would be no fight, and Simba could have a great ally.
I hope you would do more videos about hyenas! Also the ones living now.
These truly were some terrifying beings.
8:04 Me when I watch ExtinctZoo 😭
Same getting that big brain 🧠
Let’s be realistic, all predators are gonna scavenge a meal if it’s good enough
Make a video on top 10 strongest herbivore dinosaur ❤❤❤
"nah my dog doesn't bite"
"The Dog" in question:
I’d love to see you do a video comparison all of the ancient mammal super predators like the giant bear vs saber tooth cat vs Dino hyena vs mega dog etc
Then the Hyena realises that they should be the King and Scar gets 'faded'
keep up the vidoes man your a great creater
Maip macrothorax please ❤
I remember 2 or 3 years ago I had a crazy dream I was in Whiterun hold running around and this exact creature hounded me until I was above it beyond reach. It was so vivid dude I swear I didn’t know this thing even existed ☹️
