We are not Jewish but my best friend in Highschool was and I was constantly at her house. Her mother was the best cook and both of her parents were the most soft spoken people, always made me feel welcome. To this day I make her matzo ball soup. 😍👍🏻

My BageI friend from grade school had stingy parents that never made any food for me all the time I was there… The most they ever offered me was some Nutter Butter cookies.
I also dated a BageI boyfriend at 19 years old that I grew up with, and his parents never invited me over for dinner either.

My mother, who was not the best cook, made the world's best matzo balls! She said her secret was to separate the eggs & fold the beaten whites into the yolks - a task I'm just not good at. Then she cooked them in the chicken soup to flavor them. I'm getting a cold right now so I think it's a good time for me to make some chicken soup with matzo balls - this time using seltzer! Thank you for the tip.

so if you follow the recipe directions to the T it really should work - but I would say the most important steps are 1. make sure the mixture is firm when you take it out of the fridge -- it's quite alright to leave it in longer than 30 minutes (even a few hours) 2. roll into a small tight ball about 1-inch in diameter 3. make sure the water is NOT boiling but rather simmering when you drop them in and then cover the pot 4. do not overcook 30-40 mins is just right - GREAT LUCK!

I watched 3 videos after searching "best matzo balls" - two from professionals and this from a home-maker ( I assume). I fallowed Jamie's instructions for the balls and used Perier carbonated water in place of the selzer water. My time was so, that I ended resting the balls for 2 hours in the fridge. Absolute success!!! I am so delighted, grateful and proud to have achieved fluffy and light mazo balls in a rich nutritious broth. I also added parsnip in addition to the carrot. Thank you Jamie! What goes perfectly with this matza ball soup is the what we call bar Mitzva brisket in this house. Line a throw away deep baking tin with about 3 large onions cut into rings, add a 6 lb brisket, (NOT corned beef) then add 2 bottles of Heinz chili sauce. ( it’s in the ketchup isle) one can of dr. Pepper or root beer. Cover with foil tightly set oven to 375’ for 4 to 5 hours. Don’t peek during cooking. Remove brisket cut on bias add back to sauce and onions and turn off oven return pan to keep warm till your ready to serve. So easy. So fail proof you’ll wonder where it’s been all your life!!!! Enjoy!

Not Jewish, but I LOVE matzo balls! I use chicken fat instead of oil (I know, not so healthy, but they taste so wonderful!), In fact that's what I'm fixing tonight, with broth made from chicken thighs boiled with carrots, onion, celery, garlic. I disposed of the cooked-out veggies after a couple of hours of cooking, added some of the chicken meat to the broth, added new carrots/onions/celery, a little salt, and it's heating up to be ready for the matzo balls - made the matzo mix awhile ago and it's in the fridge, ready to be formed into balls and boiled in salted water----YUM!

Trick is not to boil hard but slow simmer, and finish simmer in stock. I also added a dash of salt to meal and yes seasoned water and broth is key.
    Also, use basil in stock.
Basil goes great with Matzo balls mild flavor

Looks nice, but I'll stick to my Grandmother's recipe - mixing the dry ingredients with hot boiled water and then adding the eggs one by one.
Oh, and NEVER with olive oil. Only regular vegetable oil.

Cooking them in the soup makes them muddy if you like you can make the with cleariffide chicken fat in stead of oil or half and half so if you want that beautiful clear broth cook them separate but you need to add them to the soup before shabbat last thing before lighting
