    Been tying spade end hooks as small as size 20 by hand for a long long time but my eyes are getting worse and can no longer see what I’m doing so I bought one of these today that had no instructions and this video helps massively

    I know it's quite an old video, but there's a massive tip I will give you to improve your method. If you clamp the hook in the jaws at a slight angle to the left, it will guarantee the line coming from the inside of the spade every time.

      Glad you liked the video
      I will be remaking a video on using the matchman hook tyre as the line was coming off the wrong side of the spade
      So make sure to keep an eye out for that one

    • @Bradsanglingadventures
      @Bradsanglingadventures  5 років тому

      Mark Chandler thanks for the comment and sub I have caught carp to ten and a half pound on my pole using this knot on a spade end hook
      But for large carp I would use eyed hooks and hand tie the knotless knot 👍🏻🎣

    Having had a knot slip on a spade end hook yesterday (funnily enough this happened after i landed the fish when the fish was thrashing about in the net as i tried to unhook it) after watching this and another video, i realize what i've done wrong with tying my spade end hooks with my matchman, simply i havent been pulling on the tag end when tightening the knot, only the standing line. I guess by not pulling on the tag end when tightening this causes the knot to not bed down properly.

    • @Bradsanglingadventures
      @Bradsanglingadventures  6 років тому

      cns180784 also remember to make sure the knot is pushed right up to the spade of the hook

    It helps to put something heavy on the spool so you can keep a slight tension on the line while doing it 👍

    I'm having the same problem, like you, knot is perfect, but main line, where hook is tied to, is all twisted and not straight, looks like damaged line) . Trying to correct that, so I stumble upon this video looking for solution. Other videos use big hooks and tick lines :(

  • @tomdurose5250
    @tomdurose5250 3 роки тому +1

    one thing you did not mention wetting the knot before pulling tight so your line pig tailed i must admit never seem the tag end pulled before if done in one you just wet the knot slacken the kob pull the main line job done no pushing up the knot

    • @Bradsanglingadventures

      Hi Tom
      Thanks for the comment I have mentioned in previous videos about wetting the know so assume people would know about doing that

      Herman Wilson hi mate
      Thanks for the question
      I don’t know where in the world you are but here in the uk a size 14 hook is not considered small as our hook sizes go down to a size 24 which is tiny
      With a size 14 hook I could catch anything from a roach to a double figure carp
      Hope this answers your question 👍🏻

    You are doing it wrong. The line should come off the front of the spade.

  • @stevegreen3036

    Not a good example of how to use a hook tyer. Line is kinked and will ruin presentation when fishing. You need to keep the line tight to the spool when using this hook tyer!
