I tried reporting this via discord but the support team may just be overwhelmed with this stuff because their response was: there is a checkbox form for this, we don't care about the detail, we will get around to it some day.

Thanks Matt. Thought it was wildly strange receiving a connect request from you, but it is a youtube channel I've been following. I cautiously 'accepted' the connection request, figuring me being fished on discord based on a youtube channel I'm subscribed to would also be a stretch. I was wrong.... With the first an only message it was obviously fake, I reported the server and deleted the connection.

Terrible news and thanks for reporting back to the community.
I’m not sure that only fame attracts scammers, but you do come up in several conversations at work, so you’re not entirely “unknown”.
In my opinion, you stand out emitting a lot of positive charisma and seem to be very trustworthy.
A scammer building on those personal features as their platform, will always have a better chance of succeeding with victims that already trusts you to a certain degree.
So sorry this happens to you, as well as others, seemingly decent and kind-hearted good folks.
