Great video as always John! The Beolit 20 still looks lovey though, particularly in the anthracite/navy finish

You can use a Bluetooth speaker as a default audio device with Google Home or Google Nest voice assistants, I used to do it with an S3. The only thing is you would have to make sure the BeoLit 20 is turned on before you ask Google to play anything.
Playing the video and soundtest on my SS17 Charcoal Sand limited collection Beoplay A2 Active. Just love the gorgeous leather strap of the SS17 collection, otherwise will be the normal fabric strap, which I personally not prefer to have.
They are pretty close sound wise to be honest. I would go M5 for it's extra flexibility at home with Chromecast and Airplay. Beolit 20 is king of the rechargeable Bluetooth speakers for taking out and about. John
i have the 20 anthcrite.. it sounds atmospheric when i have it beside myself as a couch friend/companion. the sad experience is when i walked to and behind the kitchen wall just to here it cutting off like an oprah on pause. and I notice on certain progressions of volume levels the woofer propagates muffled bass, barely half-way volume, on half volume it sounds stronger and cleaner, like a second amplifier kicks in for support. this confuses me, probably for energy conserving matters. last is reverse USB C charging, which it will DEFINITELY sell as a better or nor True portable power bank slash the speaker, i could uncannily upgrade the battery if i seek more lifespan as a power bank, USB C from speaker to USB C on a mobile device like a macbook or my mini fridge. Just for Feedback to B&O future considerations, thank you for the grate product!!
B&O has a no-questions asked return policy! If you would appreciate longer battery life + wireless charging, you should return the 17, and get the 20. Or you could wait a few weeks and see the price drops on the 17 and get it discounted :)

I have a Bluetooth sony record player and looking for a speaker to give that rich vinyl sound you get - any suggestions? Hovering between Beolit 17/20, Beosound 1 or 2 (Even thought he 2 may be pushing budget) or Beoplay M3 or M5?
The best would be BeoSound 2 ofcourse, BeoSound 1 has best of both worlds (great sound and portable), and best bang for buck is beolit 20. M5 is great but a lot of lows, which for me drowns out the mid and high too much.
@@maarten6656 Thanks. sounds like the more you spend the more you get. I did see alot of people compare the M5 to the Beosound 1 to be close.. is that not the case?

I don't ever blast at full volume because its so loud and doesn't sound great, I mostly play at 40-60% which easily lasts me 6 hours on the Beloit 17. Thats enough for me.

@@basil5863 I don’t have an issue with the build quality personally, although the aluminium grill is a little thin and dents easily. The plastic feels nice as far as plastics go. The buttons On mine align perfectly, but yes you only really buy this speaker for the best sound
Great to see a huge battery life. I've got the 15 and it's battery life isn't fantastic at all, especially due to the lack of space which was originally taken up for the charger cable storage compartment. That aside, I also agree that it's *by far* the best sounding portable speaker money can buy. Never would you expect a speaker the size of a lunchbox to smoothly hit the mid to high 30Hz range and have such a well rounded overall sound. Bit of a shame about BT4.2, and the price is obviously a bit steep for some, but after hearing it in the shop before I bought it, I quickly understood why!
Depends what your definition of 'good bass' is. Sound is subjective. It has very deep punchy bass that remains accurate even at higher volumes. To me it has the most powerful bass of all the portable Bluetooth speakers by Bang & Olufsen as it has the biggest bass driver and cabinet. If you are looking for something that has overly boosted bass for the sake of it then this is not for you, like most B&O items it's tuned to be faithful to the original recording. Play bass heavy music and you'll hear plenty of bass, it won't boost the bass of everything like some do. You do have the Beosonic function in the app to tune to your taste if you like. Also it depends where it's playing, indoors close to a wall or corner the bass will be much more than if it's playing in an open field outdoors as the environment affects the way speakers sound. Best thing is to try it out if you can in a store. Hope this helps. John
Mr John -Beolit 20 in black delivered yesterday . Love the Royal blue shimmer through the grill. It’s the same driver set up by all accounts as the 17 but it does sounds slightly clearer on the 20 , acoustic vocals are super clear . . The base thump seems tighter too..... unless it’s my ears. 🎵🕺🏾🌟. You can certainly feel the base! 🏋️ It’s BT 4.2 but I’ve had no fluttering or drops outs of any kind . It also plays in sync with video . 👌
John, seriously, why did you design it with BT 4.2? No need to confuse the people ;). The way they follow naming convention with Beolit never crossed my mind. So at least it makes us two :). It means we might not expect a new Beolit upgrade in a year that has already been, e.g. 39. I am a little confused about this upgrade though. I still have a Beolit 15 that I’ve always loved but now that it’s in a bigger space I have been thinking about upgrading for a while. I would’ve been interested in a Beolit 20 with bigger sound compared to the 17 which I’ve skipped. Personally I think the upgrade from 15 to 17 was more appealing to me than the upgrade from 17 to 20. It’s nice that you can use the Chi charger only if you want to, cause I have actually put stuff on top of the 15 and I might not always want to drain the Beolit 20. The design is still nice but I’ve kind of expected a touch more modern feel overall. When you compare the look of the 15 to the 12, then the gap is more noticeable for instance. When it comes to the coloured cloth/mesh under the grill, Beolit has been known to play with different colours but I personally think the grey and black tone of the 17 was more elegant, like in your comparison at 3:00. Now the orange and royal blue tones add a contrast I am not so sure about. Maybe the blue-black seems more composed than the orange colliding with the tan leather on the grey version. These tones would have been achieved with the aluminium grill in past models. I think I might wait and see if the Balance gets both multiroom and a new colour option or what the new speaker B&O has recently run a survey about on Instagram will be like. But I’m ready to move on from Beolit, as impressive as it is! Cause I can definitely say that for the price its sound is bigger than that of my Beosound 1. Thanks for making the video John, much appreciated!
No problem Csaba Moving up to the multi-room speakers is a good move for the house, Chromecast, Airplay 2 and Beolink add a lot of functionality. The Beolit 17 was a decent sound upgrade from Beolit 15 too. I personally apologise for the Blutooth 4.2! John
@@BangOlufsenManchester Don’t worry! I’m little interested in if it is 4.2 or 5. That wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for me :). I don’t know why some keep whyning about it. I’ve tested multiroom at home with BS1 and M3, even those two had done an excellent job. But I’ve sold my M3, and I need the punch of the Balance, so I need B&O to roll out Beolink to it. I suppose you still have no info on which month it might be expected in?
I work in Kopřivnice in the former factory belonging to the B&O company, however, we still produce Bang & Olufsen products here. Specifically, now A9 is enjoying great interest, so we work as hard as we can. And just this year, I decided to give myself another product of this premium brand. It started with Form 2i headphones over Beolit 17 and the latest additions are the last E8 series. And when I see it that way, the Beolit 20 will be next in line. When should production start and especially where will it be produced? Will it be in Denmark or here in Kopřivnice? Is there anything specific already known?
Dear John, thank you for the review of this amazing portable speaker! For people who are looking for the best portable audio experience, this is the go for! Due to the fact it is identical to the Beolit 17, what are the differences to the Beolit 15? Infact I was thinking of upgrading from my 5 year old version because of battery problems.
The BeoLit 17 had upgraded sound thanks to more cabinet volume as the cable tray was removed. It was also upgraded for USB C charging rather than the bigger mains lead. If you liked your BeoLit 15 you'll love the BeoLit 20. John
@@BangOlufsenManchester After 5 years with my Beolit 15 there is still no better home bluetooth speaker which I can take with me that has a room filling sound! Regarding the new Beolit 20, is the new cloth color behind the aluminium bright orange?
Dear John, thank you for nice review of Beolit 20. I am owner of Beolit 15 and considering buying Beolit 20. Do you know if i will be able to pair Beolit 15 & 20 together for "stereo sound". Thx a lot.
Nice video but no substantial upgrade to the sound after three long years. As you said, everything inside is the same, beside having a little more battery life and wireless charging. Even the design is not new, just different finishings and colours. Three long years to get to the same old speaker, very disappointing.
No Bluetooth 5.0? And I wish there were some upgrades to the sound though ... this makes it very difficult to buy if I compare it to other alternatives. Also I don't understand why they'd stop at a 3'200mAh battery... especially with the Qi-Wireless charging ... I mean the WHOLE battery of the beolit 20 wouldn't even be enough for 1 total charge of my phone. Oh man.
With all that B&O attention to detail its a shame their iOS app won't connect to my Beolit 12.... or that you can no longer get a battery for the 12... did someone say built-in obsolescence?
Iv`e got a BEO 12 , no Bluetooth in those days [thanks for the tip on the numbers] , awkward setting up on the WiFi network, but the sound was worth it back in the day. It looks like they have rectified the connectivity problems I have with the BEO 12 by switching to Bluetooth in the BEO 20, unfortunately not the latest version. I`ll wait, until they upgrade it , and gift my old BEO 12 to my son. Great sound.
It looks nice, does make me wonder what the market is. The price is a bit high for younger people who would use it more outside. and for inside Wifi for chrome cast, Airplay 2, Multiroom. would be nicer. I don't mean it's a bad product. just don't really get the market its aimed at. (If it worked with multiroom, it would be my favorite speaker tho, love the QI charger on it)
It's just a beast of portable speaker, it's great for taking out and filling pretty big spaces with music. It's good at home if you only want Bluetooth and you move it around from room to room. The equivalent sort of sound in the multi-room family is BeoPlay M5, similar big sound but all of the network streaming goodies. John
@djneo92nl @Bang & Olufsen Manchester Its designed for the type of people who care about precession and deep sound, wich B&Os Signature Sound stands for. I have long-term tested so many competitors over the last years (like Bose, JBL, Sonos, B&W, H&K,..) and none of them had that fullfilling sound and product quality like B&O. -and most of these brands-competitors aren't much cheaper. If you compare there price-performance you will often notice, that they are more expensive and often worser build. (Doesn't mean B&Os products are cheap, they cost a lot of money but its worth it in most of the cases)
yes I'm obsessed with this one!bring it everywhere 😅 also in shower hihi . Tested it and blew me away with the sound clarity when first time heard it at the store without hesitant to checkout counter 😁 hahaha
I’m super happy with my two Beloit 17 and I would have considered to upgrade to the Beloit 20 expecting that after three long years B&O would have further raised the bar. Disappointingly I learned that all they did was to increase the battery capacity. Everything else is unchanged, even the Bluetooth technology is the old one. Lousy.
Hi. It took me until later in the Beolit 17 run to guess where the number came from, the 20 just confirmed it I guess😄. It’s good the B&O still have faith in the basic design as it hasn’t really changed much in 8 years, and must therefore be a good seller. Having said that B&O calling it ‘new’ may be pushing it a little when it is so similar to the 17 but hey it’s had an update in 2020 so why not. I don’t understand the differences in the Bluetooth formats, but I’m guessing 5.0 is supposed to be better and 4.2? Not really an issue to me though, I’ve never had any problems with any of my B&O Bluetooth kit. Hope all you guys in Manchester are keeping safe, it’s worrying times (again) so look after yourselves. Thanks.
@@ainajoe5874 Bluetooth 5.0 for portable devices is necessary for better portability of the device. This characteristic does not affect the quality of reproduction. The essence of the comment is this.
37hz is a very misleading way of setting the frequency range. YES, it does play 37 hz, but its not flat down to 37hz. Given the size of the thing, i would imagine it going flat down to 80 with a deep rolloff and with a steep rolloff afterwards.
I think you'd be surprised. B&O are usually very transparent with specs. I've just tried a frequency sweep, (albeit not a proper measurement), on mine in the store. It becomes audible at around 1m away at 60% volume from about 30Hz, 37Hz is pretty fair. The roll off doesn't really get noticeable until around 50Hz. It obviously can't do it with the force of a large subwoofer, it's not magic, but it's certainly there.
the beolit 20 is a beolit 17 since nothing has been changed same drivers same battery life same volume no aptx no bluetooth 5 the beolit 20 is simply a beolit 17 that you simply made your 20 ththat's called a rip off
The latest portable speaker without the latest Bluetooth... and with no outdoor skills whatsoever (water, dust and heat protection)... 🤔 I am mostly disappointed as I was really looking forward to getting one of those... the A1 being a little « light ».
VERY odd, it is a new product but has the old Bluetooth version 4.2. Very strange indeed. Anything under version 5.0 is unacceptable in 2020. I have seen some products with 5.1 already.
B&O I swear by you. You furnish my home and vehicle. You're a standard I live by. But wtf have you done? If you kept the original colour scheme, this comment would have slid. 2020 was hard enough, but now you've done us too. You've added features we don't need. You've taken away from the aesthetics, with that horrid colour scheme. Unless in some ironic way you were artistically saying here's a representation of 2020; a total shitfest. I know this msg really should be heard by B&O HQ not the M'cr store. But a msg for the store is we as an audience love your integrity and honesty, and it would've been nice if you gave some opinion on that colour scheme too. I know you're in the business of sales. But that said, the fact you didn't mention the colour scheme, maybe says it all. I trusted you guys and ironically if you squinted or fake vomited at the colour options, least mentioned them, I'd be more inclined to agree with whatever else you're saying. Now I'm feeling you're not the B&O buddy, insider, or reviewer, but a salesman. My trust level has dropped from 100%. Other than that, thanks for the video. Just as with the Beolab 14, it seems no one is actually reviewing the Beolit 20 in the tech media. Just throwing out a bunch of stats. I save a sizeable amount to spend on B&O. As I love giving them as presents as well as owning them. I love introducing people to the brand. And watching how those people introduce others. All this video has taught me is: don't buy the Beolit 20. Buy instead a few more 17s and also the 39. Thank you. Appreciated.

Like quite a few of the commenters below, I’m a bit baffled that the Beolit 20 is still using BT 4.2 (especially considering all the other new B&O Bluetooth products released this year use BT 5.1). The Beolit 20 still looks lovey though, particularly in the anthracite/navy finish
How about the devialet phantom???I think it is the best...
I've not heard one to be honest but they certainly look funky and tend to get well reviewed. John
The beloit 17 pink color was released in may 2019.
Ha Ha! I did not figure out the numbering either until you mentioned in the video, so you are in good company. :) Now it makes sense. I can learn you to pronounce Tärnsjö ;)

Wonder if it can be controlled by Google assistant? What would be great🙂
You can use a Bluetooth speaker as a default audio device with Google Home or Google Nest voice assistants, I used to do it with an S3. The only thing is you would have to make sure the BeoLit 20 is turned on before you ask Google to play anything.
Has the P6 been discontinued already? There’s quite a gap between the A1 2nd Gen and this speaker.
yes apparently they took it down from the website

Which has a overall better sound quality t beolit 20 or t m5?
They are pretty close sound wise to be honest. I would go M5 for it's extra flexibility at home with Chromecast and Airplay. Beolit 20 is king of the rechargeable Bluetooth speakers for taking out and about. John
@@BangOlufsenManchester sir soundwise which is better?I have a beolit 17.will I be able to stereo pair it with t beolit 20?
These are brilliant
i have the 20 anthcrite.. it sounds atmospheric when i have it beside myself as a couch friend/companion. the sad experience is when i walked to and behind the kitchen wall just to here it cutting off like an oprah on pause. and I notice on certain progressions of volume levels the woofer propagates muffled bass, barely half-way volume, on half volume it sounds stronger and cleaner, like a second amplifier kicks in for support. this confuses me, probably for energy conserving matters. last is reverse USB C charging, which it will DEFINITELY sell as a better or nor True portable power bank slash the speaker, i could uncannily upgrade the battery if i seek more lifespan as a power bank, USB C from speaker to USB C on a mobile device like a macbook or my mini fridge. Just for Feedback to B&O future considerations, thank you for the grate product!!
Damn...just 2 days ago purchased the BeoLit 17 :D
B&O has a no-questions asked return policy! If you would appreciate longer battery life + wireless charging, you should return the 17, and get the 20. Or you could wait a few weeks and see the price drops on the 17 and get it discounted :)
You lucked out. I think they're better. Trust me. I'll put my money where my mouth is, if you wanna sell your unit, assuming it's mint condition & "Natural" colour, I'll buy if from you. Anytime. HMU
Jhon, My query is simple. Which sounds better among Beoplay M5 & Beolit 20 ? Please answer specifically
@@silversurfer6173 not for me, BeoSound 1 is a lot better in the highs, lows are comparable. Design wise and the portability make the product more complete to me
@@silversurfer6173 and yes, the more you spend the more you get. The sound of the beoplay A9 and BeoSound Edge are even greater. The best speaker for your money would be the A9 due to the placement options and it delivers 2x the sound of the BeoSound 2 (in volume) and has great clarity and treble

Hi, is the Beolit 20 splash resistant?
e.g. If your using it outdoors and it starts raining, will Beolit 20 be okay?
My dad used to have a black one of red of those 3 old portable radios, if you have the name of it I'd like to try and find one of them for my father again as his got stolen.
The battery on 17 was in my mind criminaly being sold as 24 hour, I get 40 minutes out of it at full volume. I have looked at the beolit 20 and you have done it again the battery is tiny
I don't ever blast at full volume because its so loud and doesn't sound great, I mostly play at 40-60% which easily lasts me 6 hours on the Beloit 17. Thats enough for me.
@@basil5863 I have the 17 and I have a JBL charge 3 which is absolutely tiny compared to the beolit 17. the JBL has a larger battery than the beolit 17 which doesn't make any sense to me considering the form factor. On mine align perfectly, but yes you only really buy this speaker for the best sound
Does this have good bass? I want something that is punchy, please don’t be bias and let me know I’ve been looking for a speaker for some time now
Depends what your definition of 'good bass' is. John
Can this be used as a tv speaker and will there be latency?
no no and no
Mr John -Beolit 20 in black delivered yesterday .
It’s BT 4.2 but I’ve had no fluttering or drops outs of any kind .

John

Oh man.
With all that B&O attention to detail its a shame their iOS app won't connect to my Beolit 12.... or that you can no longer get a battery for the 12... did someone say built-in obsolescence?
quo vadis B&O?
I can’t get over the granny picnick basket look of this speaker.

John
@djneo92nl @Bang & Olufsen Manchester
Its designed for the type of people who care about precession and deep sound, wich B&Os Signature Sound stands for.

Thanks.

B&O I swear by you. You furnish my home and vehicle. You're a standard I live by. But wtf have you done?
