Beautiful rendition. I never knew this song until recently, and am astounded at how it's lived on, even though nobody ever puts on the musical it came from, which wasn't very successful. There are endless interpretations. Mostly by women, and the song was written for a woman to sing, like most of Lorenz Hart's best lyrics. He was gay, but I think he identified with women, empathized with their joys and pains. And to this day, female singers respond to that. To the deep loneliness of the words, but also the sly humor, and the hope that things can get better.

I only recently learned this song. I'm at an age where I'm thinking about retiring soon. I'm angry that I hadn't come across this song until this age, but at the same time, I'm grateful that I found it before I died😂
And Thank you for the wonderful explanation Sir.

@@manaoji927 My pleasure. I knew about Rodgers & Hart a long time, but they wrote over 80 songs, not all of which are this good, and I've come across many only recently. I read a whole biography of Lorenz Hart, to understand him better. He was a lot of fun. Covering up a lot of pain, but he still left something behind people will never forget. The sad irony of him is, people have been falling in love to these songs so long now, but they never did his love life any good. He had a generous soul (reportedly, you could not ever pick up a check when eating out with him).
