That was me @ 7:43 putting figures into the Painting comp cabinets and I am a member of the club that puts Salute on so I can tell you why it is only a one day show. Firstly the show is put on by members of the South London Warlords and as such it is run completely voluntarily by our members. Some of us are there all day on Friday to help set the show up and some are there on the day (as well as Friday) from 07:00 to the end, around 20:00 usually. As you can imagine doing this is completely knackering and by the end of the day we are all usually broken so finding the extra energy for another day is going to be a very hard task. Then there is the cost. It does cost a lot of money to put the show on for one day and more importantly it would cost the traders and people putting games on a lot of money in accommodation to stay over on Saturday night. Post Brexit the price of hotels has gone up quite a bit in London, indeed we saw a drop off of people coming down to set up on Friday probably due to this, and coupled with it being Marathon Weekend the prices for any accommodation in London is at a premium. Glad you enjoyed the show but us lot making it two days is probably not going to happen any time soon.
Wow thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed behind the scenes to some of the runnings of the event. I had a great weekend, hopefully the video will let more people see what a good time it is. I’ve definitely got a strategy in mind for managing my time better for next year so I can fit more in. Thanks again for the great comment, cheers!
Holy cow. Didn't think I'd see them again... But the Celtos dude on your thumbnail (and some of the ones in the cabinets at 5:33) are some of my paint jobs from over 20 years ago. Kev White sculpts. They were some of my very first paint jobs as a professional when I was still in my 20s. Bloody hell lol. Can't believe they still have them (especially as the rights to Celtos were owned by a different company back then too). That's nuts. Nice video... Got a massive nostalgia hit from this. Thanks. Subbed ❤️
Awesome that’s really cool, they’re really great sculpts. I guess that’s why they’re still around as they’re such good designs. Happy to hear you got to enjoy a little flash back. Thank you for the sun, appreciated, cheers!
I have been to most of the Excel shows, queueing before 10am and never leaving before 4pm. So much to see and buy, I would think all tastes can be satisfied, but hey can't please everyone.
You have to just wonder sometimes, obviously I had a great time but I guess it depends what you’re after 🤷♂️ Not long till 51 wahoo! Thanks for the comment, cheers!
I agree a great day - Thanks for the kind words about the Starwars Diorama - I had great fun making that piece and it "made the cut" which was cherry on the top!
Great effort, as I mention I thought it was really cool the way it incorporated the view from the speeder bike. Glad to hear you had a good one, cheers!
Wow, even though you weren't attracted to my Castiglione 1796 historical table, for me you win the prize for the best Salute video report. I love the close up camera work but more importantly you do a great job of projecting the passion for our hobby that Salute is all about, well done!
I might have filmed it, sometimes the shots don’t turn out as well as I’d like, hopefully next time I can get some good footage of your table and show it off! Thank you for the praise, really appreciated, cheers!
Hey you've got 3 of my painting comp entries in the background here, so thank you for that. Cool vid, was a fun day and the kids loved it. Saying you've missed quite alot was definitely a thing. Was there most of the day and didn't see half the stuff you've filmed. So much cool stuff was everywhere.✌
Awesome, I’d loved to have filmed more of the entries just need a more appropriate lens. I guess it’s more important that you have a great day out than necessarily see everything, quite the overload with the amount to take in! Thank you for watching, cheers!
I’d absolutely recommend getting to the panels next time around. There was so much I missed last time but the shopping hoard I came back with was absurd 😂 already got my ticket for the next one.
Ah man there’s just too much to do and see! 😂 Thanks for the recommendation, I’ve a game plan for my next Salute so hopefully will fit in some panels and some gaming! Cheers!
4:56 If I'm not mistaken, that's a repurposed Blood Ravens advertising model. They used to be found in various shops to promote the release of the PC game _Dawn of War II._ It's been repainted, had the Purity Seals added and the "DoW2" title has been taken off the rock plinth (where that Bolter is sitting on the right), but I must say it's in fantastic shape. Nice to see one put to good use.
Ah cool, thanks for the info, interesting, cool that they’ve done a bit of custom job to it. As I say sights like this are always a fun addition to a convention for me. Thanks for the info, cheers!
The bolt pistol was cool, I suspect it was 3D print, was very light. Was a fun day out, I don’t think it was too expensive either, would deffo recommend. Cheers for watching!
Although I can’t confirm for certain I’m very sure it was a home brew. There were a bunch of people playing and watching as I went past so was a little hard to even get the shots I did. A game I’d like to have a crack at purely as I loved the light cycles in Tron! Thanks for watching, cheers!
To be honest I thought that Salute 50 was a let down. I have been going every year since the early 80's and as this was the 50th my expectations were high. The goody bag I got and my wife got just had a miniature in it, the program and 3 leaflets... nothing else - no dice (which we always get) Also there was a lack of sellers compaired to usual. Where were the stalls that are always against the walls? The previous Salute had lots of tables and chairs for sitting down and eating lunch but this year it was almost empty and the few chairs available were snapped up straight away. There is a lot in your video I didn't see so maybe I was blinkered by my disapointment. Its a shame as I was so looking forward to this Salute but have come away feeling as though was it worth it? My wife agrees with me and commented on how bad it was compared to previous shows. Being the 50th it should of been so much more than it was. This is just our opinion and those that went and enjoyed it, I am happy for you :) I took loads of money with me intending to buy lots of things or something big but nothing caught my eye, which is very unusual for me.
Sorry to hear that, I’ve not been before so can’t really compare it to past editions. A lot of the filming I did was towards the start and the end when it was calmer and easier to get around, it was hard to see things during peak time. The dice was handed to me just after I was given the bag so perhaps there were limited numbers or some sort of mix up. Hopefully if you return next year would have a better experience. Or could be worth trying some of the other events the UK Games Expo last year was one of my favourite events! Thanks for taking the time to write such a big comment and thanks for watching, cheers!
great video, im aiming to get to salute next year! Do you happen to know the models at 3:40? i keep thinking about how awesome that armadilloBear thing is haha
Thank you, if you can I’d highly recommend, it was a great day out! I’m not sure what the company was called I’m afraid, it’s out of focus but I really liked a little adventurer mouse near the front, as far as I could tell they weren’t for sale, I think they were prototypes. Thank you for watching, appreciated!
I always associate nerds as enjoying maths more than geeks, which I realise is a probably made up baseless opinion but I’m not a maths fan and I can’t get over it! 😂 Cheers for the realignment suggestion!
I can see why it might be off putting, it’s very big and a bit overwhelming trying to fit everything in. The crowds calmed down as the day went on, the last couple of hours were great for looking around. Not heard of Colours will have to investigate! Thanks for watching!
There seemed to be lots of military, medieval and historical looking games and minis. Everyone has their preferences though. Any alternate wargame events you’d recommend?

Hey It's my Lord of the rings Battle of Pelenor Fields Diorama!!😮 Thanks for putting it on the video!!!❤😊 Dan. (Aka painting_ninjutsu)
Awesome work, how could I not! Cheers!

@@GeekExplorers I did as well… it didn’t quite work 😄
@damp_dog uh oh 😂 fingers crossed I can do a bit of everything!
Thanks for the video. Liked the close up shots. I went to Salute in 2015 which was enough for me.
Fair enough, well I hope you still got a flavour of what it was like this time round from the video. Thank you for watching, appreciated!

@@GeekExplorers You're quite welcome.
I want that bolter pistol! Very cool convention. I'll be honest, I wasn't aware it was going on. It's always nice to see such well paint miniatures.

so much detail going into those figures , the masters of the universe set was cool , nice share bud 🙂👍
I was really tempted by the MOTU set, it was £60 reduced from £85. Thanks for watching!
What was that tron lightcycle game? Was that someone's homebrew game?
Although I can’t confirm for certain I’m very sure it was a home brew. There were a bunch of people playing and watching as I went past so was a little hard to even get the shots I did. A game I’d like to have a crack at purely as I loved the light cycles in Tron! Thanks for watching, cheers!

Make the right choice man ... dont be a geek ! Be a NERD ! Nerds are wayyy better then geeks lol
I always associate nerds as enjoying maths more than geeks, which I realise is a probably made up baseless opinion but I’m not a maths fan and I can’t get over it! 😂 Cheers for the realignment suggestion!
Didn't see the best tables then? Bunny and Badger Frothers had four participation tables running
I’m sorry to have missed out on the best tables hopefully I can catch them at a future event! Cheers
❤
Thanks for watching!!
I`m afraid that Salute is my idea of a total nightmare. I have been to Colours and Warfare and much prefer those.
I can see why it might be off putting, it’s very big and a bit overwhelming trying to fit everything in. The crowds calmed down as the day went on, the last couple of hours were great for looking around.
Not heard of Colours will have to investigate! Thanks for watching!
Too much sci-fi and fantasy. Not enough based on reality. I wouldn't waste my time.
There seemed to be lots of military, medieval and historical looking games and minis. Everyone has their preferences though. Any alternate wargame events you’d recommend?
