Prior to the late 60's, F1 cars tended to bear the livery of their respective countries, but by the mid 70's, commercial sponsorship was well established and the John Players Special sponsorship of the Lotus F1 was very high profile. It wasn't a surprising commercial decision for Seiko to tap into the feel of that popularity. This is another cracking video and tutorial Adam. I've been avoiding the chronographic complexities for long enough; you've given me the confidence to give it a whirl. I've already perfected the explosive expletives in preparation.😄
Haha! I think you'll surprise yourself once you get started on your first chronograph. Just make sure you study up on the movement, keep your parts organized, and you will do fine. I had the expletives on standby as well when I did my first one! Thanks for watching and commenting!
great video...that's a very complex movement
Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
I've been looking forward to this ❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome! Hopefully it didn’t disappoint!
@WeekendWatchRepair absolutely fantastic. Such a beautiful watch. Great work ❤️
Good looking watch. I like working on seiko. It's a great video. I always enjoy watching. You did a great job. Thank you
Thank you very much.
Pleasure to watch and learn.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks Ross!
Nice JPS. I just amazes me the 6138 fits into so many different cars sizes. The JPS is relatively compact and if you look inside the case, you can actually see where Seiko milled out recession the case to accept the movement. The movement on yours looks to be in exceptional shape. Very little surface wear that I can see. Looking forward to part 2 where you assemble the watch.
Thanks. I completely agree.
It have to be Seiko S-4 grease or similar grease(Möbius 9501-9504) on the center wheel pivots🙃
The problem usually is that have to be serviced every 5 years(not ~40 years😬)
I'm guessing they put entirely too much on there, and when they went to install the cannon pinon, it pushed a lot of the grease off the pinion and onto the jewel.
@@WeekendWatchRepair ~215° amplitude is a little bit low😬. A month ago I did serviced my Seiko 6138-8021 and the final result was/still is ~270°amplitude. I noticed the upper port jewel upgrade, did you adjust the lower and upper jewels so that the barrel teeth mesh with the center wheel pinion in the upper ¾?😉
And just a tip, if the mainspring is not broken, leave it in the watch. Recently I did a Seiko 6139-7100 with swapped mainspring by Officially Certified Rolex watchmaker and the movement was "limping" with ~30h power reserve and ~200° amplitude😬........
@@MsAppleseed Yes, I did adjust the lower jewel as well so the barrel met the center wheel pinion on the upper 3/4. It was 215 after it's first 24 hours. It's been a few days now and it is running in the 230's. I monitor them for several days after servicing and adjust as necessary. I appreciate you taking the time to leave detailed comments. Thanks.
Seiko used the JPS color scheme for this watch almost certainly counting on people to draw a relationship in their minds to the JPS sponsored Lotus F1 team. But there was no official partnership or association between the two.
That’s almost 😅 like 👍 the Bullhead watch. The dial is very similar. What is a 6138 movement? I don’t get it, except for one ☝️ very basic fact. It has something to do with which way ya rotate the crown 👑, to change either the day or the date 📅. Your friend, Jeff.
The 6138 is a dual register (minute & hour counter) chronograph movement, and the 6139 is a single register (minute counter) movement.
