Superb video. Not a single wasted second. Our kaffir lime tree will be even happier after we follow your instructions and will buy some winter food from your store as a 'thank you' for this video.
Great video, made it sound so simple ! I now feel confident to look after my new citrus baby … thank you! I’ve watched a few videos and this one has certainly put my mind at rest that I can a great citrus momma !!
Oh my Gosh, i wish i found this video months ago, I could have saved my lemon tree. I have to start all over again, but I will be applying everything you said. No doubt the best video on lemon trees on UA-cam!
Yes, you and me both. I bought a Yuzu and a Bears lime, both seem to have different ideas about what they like. I have seen countless people online tell us to keep citrus out of the sun, the contradicting advice out there is astounding. The plants in the video above, look the healthiest that I have seen, so I will follow this lady's advice and ignore the rest!
@@dizzitoast I can get back to you with a brief update now. Unfortunately, I had to bring the lime indoors. I kept the greenhouse heated to above 9 degrees, but the relentless bad weather that we had lead to very high levels of condensation overnight and moisture in the air. My lime showed signs of suffering, so I brought it indoors. Another video that I watched after this one advised that citrus should not be allowed to go below 42 Fahrenheit. I think, given that I live in a harsh part of the UK, the greenhouse option overwinter is unrealistic. The Yuzu is still in the greenhouse, hasn't dropped leaves. The lime had dropped a few leaves each day or so, consistent with over-watering, but I hadn't watered it. I will put the lime out in the greenhouse in the spring and only put it outdoors in the best of summer weather. Last year I left the lime and Yuzu out throughout the summer and overnight to no ill effect. The autumn is what took its toll, that relentless wet weather and condensation - with no sunny weather for some respite. It is not all about temperature, that I can guarantee was fine - I have a remote sensor and despite -5 outside, in the greenhouse was 9.2 degrees. I have mangos as well and will do the same with them. (I am in the Upper Rhondda, South Wales to give you an idea)
I have found so much different advice about keeping my 20 year old lemon tree, given to me after a friend passed away, I now am confident that I can keep it fruiting and happy. Such a great video, thank you so much.
oh...4 year old video, yet the best, because i am going to buy a lemon tree tomorrow !!!! this video is God sdent----just in time !!!! thanks a million. i don't believe i found your video the day before i am about to buy a lemon tree......good omen too !!!! yes.

I have a 3 yr old lemon myer tree I planted from seed. Its probably 3-4 ft tall and its in a huge pot. My lemon tree hasn't branched out at all. What can I do to get it to branch out and become full like the ones u showed in your video.
What an amazingly beautiful young lady, that is smart and well-spoken too(rare combination). You should keep the videos coming, I would love to see advice on other fruit-trees, vegetables and anything gardening related really. Have a good day. :)
I know its a bit late but just in-case you are still wondering: Both winter and summer feeds are on the plants4presents website; just google 'Plants4Presents'.👍🏻
Some time ago I found the shop site, but wasn't aware that you made videos as well. All the searches I have put in over the past years and only today have I found this video. You are so right about watering. Based on what others said online, I was careful not to over water. Then I saw the leaves turn along the length and thought it couldn't be due to over watering, so I saw another video where a man just ran a hose on his. I gave mine a good soak and left it do dry out - that definitely seems the way to do it. My lime 'communicates' its needs really well, my Yuzu (a meter away from the lime) seems to have very different issues with regard to its comfort. I didn't plant the young Yuzu out as I feared a harsh winter (upper Rhondda, South Wales) but it may go out when stronger. My greenhouse is now insulated with bubblewrap as well as having copious candles for heat!
I have been growing lemon trees in pots from seed here in New York, and my trees are about 6 years old now. The leaves have frequently been overly large and that shiny rubbery color, and I never knew why. Thank you for your video, and I will be fertilizing them this year! Hopefully I can get some blossoms soon.
Thank you for the clear directions. You answered all of the questions I had in mind when I came to look for advice for my lemon and lime “cocktail tree”. Excellent video!
Fantastic advise. I’ve seem to have done everything wrong this first year with a Persian lime but I have 31 big, juicy limes currently, the first one just picked and tasting amazing. I will implement your advise, thank you!
This was such an enjoyable and informative video! I watched the whole thing due to the host, and have learnt soooo much i wouldnt have if I'd gone for any other video! Will be referring to this numerous times!!! 😁😁😁
I have a lemon tree (unknown variety) that I purchased as a very sickly plant about 3 years ago. I've nursed it back to health and it seems to be doing ok but I have never had it set fruit. Is there anything you would recommend I should do to encourage it to fruit this year? Also, I managed to grow a little plant from a Tangerine seed last spring. It is now 3 - 3.5 inches in height and it seems to be doing well. It is showing signs of needing to be fed on the new growth and I do have some feed and citrus specific compost on the way. I want to encourage it to grow on pretty strong this year and wondered what you would recommend i should do to achieve this. Thank you for your time in making the video. I know I'm a bit late to this but I had to comment on your excellent video as well as asking your expert advice.

I just put down a ichandrin yuzu 3 weeks ago and many leaves started to have this side way curl (like we bend over sideway on our waist). Other leaves look healthy so not sure what to make out of it. Can you please share about disease, pest and how to maintain them? Much appreciate it.
I live in the Caribbean and have inherited a lime tree that is planted in the garden of my new houseI have trimmed it to tidy up the shape I now see lots of new shoots on this 5ft tree it is 18 months to 2 years since planting and has never as yet had any fruit according to the previou owner please advise me on what tom feed it with and how often we are now just coming into the rainy season
Thank you for this very thorough and informative video. It takes the mystery out of growing citrus, and gives a good timeline for performing various tasks that will help my lemon tree stay happy and productive.
Do you have any advice regarding thinning of the fruit? My potted Bearrs Lime tree put out so many blossoms and fruit I was worried it wouldn't he able to support all of them so I removed about 2/3 of the small fruit. I'm still left with about 30 limes.
Hi there guys. great tips thanks. could i ask i question. i have a few different fruit trees all in pots and in a glass house in the west of Ireland , so plenty of damp air. my kaffir lime, lemons , yuzu, grapefruit are doing fine but i have never had any luck with sweet oranges. last year the bark started to ooze sap and the tree eventually died, there was no sign of bugs or root rot. i purchased another and the leaves are very yellow. i have done nothing different in terms of feeding etc compared to my other trees. would you have any advice on the orange tree? thanks again. phil
Brilliant video, thanks for sharing. I have x2 lemons and one grapefruit growing from kitchen waste, so I have no idea what variety they are, but these tips will sure help..
Thanks for getting in touch and so glad you've found it useful. Bear in mind that plants grown from pips don't always fruit but the fragrant leaves can still be used in cooking. Try them like a bay leaf in rice for a fragrant citrus twist :)

I have a lemmon and a kaffir lime. Overwintering them has always been a problem. If I keep them in the house they get infested with scaly bugs (Wife has banned them from the living room due to the sugary "drops" around the plants). They can go from no bugs at all to a situation where all twigs and leaves are covered with scaly bugs in a short time. I don't know where they come from, no other plants in the house have scaly bugs. When I put them in the (dark) garage, the scaly bugs infestation stalls, but al leaves start to fall off. Last spring I spend a few hours per plant cleaning each and every leave and twig.

Keeping the plants colder definately helps but too cold (below freezing) is not good for the trees. You really need to clean the scales off and get rid of them for good. I know it's tedious but I would get the plant outside on a warmish day and wipe the whole plant down again.
Baby wipes are quite useful as the oils on them help too and they are strong enough to wipe and remove the worst of the adults. It's going to be quite mild for the next week so you could to this now and then leave them outside for another week to dry off before talking very nicely to your wife about bringing them into the house on probation.
First sign of any stickiness get them back outside for another spray down or spray again with meths at 3 and 6 months to be sure.
