My Videos are about Metal Detecting, WW2 Metal Detecting, Relic Hunting, Magnet Fishing and exploring! I intend to revive the history that is still laying in the ground after all these years. Join me on my adventure!
You've found some great stuff there! Those numbers on the Enigma machine base and on the rotors that you found is the serial number of the machine. There are almost always no date markings on these machines but A8799 suggests that it was produced before 1942. Over 20,000 were produced in total. The right side of the base is the place where the battery sits and those holes are where the keyboard and lamp board attach. The first item that you show is extremely interesting and very rare. It is a reflector (which reflects the electrical signal from the rotors). Unusually, the serial number M8799 is a Kriegsmarine serial number (M=Marine). However, what makes it interesting is that the original serial number A8799 appears to have been over-stamped with M8799 - something which has not been seen anywhere before. And yes, that pair of clasps is from an Enigma machine box - though probably not from the one pictured as it is Enigma K used by the Swiss. The knob is used to hold down the top cover of the machine and the cover over the rotors as well. The left pin you have is one of the key shafts while the other is on of the supports which attaches the keyboard to the base. I collect these sorts of Enigma parts (both ground-found and attic-found), so to see the work that goes into finding them when metal detecting is great. Congratulations!
Wooow, thank you sooo much for all that information! Absolutely stunning.
Now that I look at it your are clearly right, the A8799 was overstamped with M8799, I wonder why :0
This set of finds is probably the best I ever made. Definitely gonna hit those spots again!
@@MetalMaxWW2 I showed your video to some Enigma experts I know and they agree that this is a one-of-a-kind. It was very likely that the serial number M8799 was engraved incorrectly (perhaps by a manufacturing worker who wasn't concentrating properly), so an A was added on top of the M. This appears to be the case as the reflector still has the typical inspectors stamp - indicating that the manufacturer decided that this was a satisfactory fix. Another suggested that maybe "late in the war when supply-lines were stretched, resources thin and everything urgent - some remote Naval posting still using an old M2 naval Enigma machine urgently requested a replacement reflector and someone in the supply chain had a rummage around in a spare parts store, found an old damaged army machine with a functional reflector and made the expedient decision to just bung an M on the front (so it at least looked like a little effort had been made)". This would mean that it was M engraved over the A rather than the other way around. It is hard to tell which letter was engraved first. On another note, would it be possible to use a screenshot of this part of the video, with credit to you of course, for a document about surviving Enigma parts and rare variations?
@@enigmacollector1680 Sorry for replying this late, yes of course you can! If you want i could take some more pictures and send them to you.
Very interesting theories and truly unique. Finding Enigma parts is rare in itself, and now a part like that... crazy!
@@MetalMaxWW2 It would be great if you could send some more pictures! You can send them to my email: patrick@chiffriermaschine.com. I also have a website at www.chiffriermaschine.com if you'd like to see some rare Enigma parts from my collection. Thank you so much!

Good luck next hunt and would be grazy if you find pieces from 3 enigma's
Haha one location definitely still seems promising ;) Those 1945 retreat areas can be very promising with finds.
But sometimes it's nothing and nothing and other times it's what you saw today- a gold mine!
Thanks for watching!
Maan, incredible finds! I think you are the only one youtuber who found enigma parts😀. 10:31 Theese hooks are used by rivers, they put them into cracked logs, to stop cracking, I also always find tons of them, idk maybe they like to trow theese away🤗.
Ahh alright so that's what they are.
And who knows, maybe I am ^^ definitely one of my best set if finds so far.

Rain, separates the men from the boys. Nice video as usual!
Cool Video nice
Most impressive finds! That you cannot keep a completely harmless firearm or even ammunition is regrettable.
It really is a pity... all the historic rifles and pistols I found... but have to play by the rules.
Thank you for watching!
👍👍🔝🔝🔝 another great video
"Insanely cool?" Yeah that's exactly how I would describe it too.
Respect from Romania 🇷🇴💪👍

You got to grid the area off and dig all signals for any part of that machine Bud
I did! Pretty sure I found most of it by now, went there in a follow up video.
Sehr krass!👍

Glückwunsch zu deinen Funden. Wo treibst du dich rum? Harz oder Brandenburg? Wirklich beeindruckend, was du gefunden hast.
Better watch out, Max, the Gestapo might be after you. Just kidding, interesting video.
