Ain't that the truth lmao I remember my step dad tellin me that back in his time groceries were never past $100 dollars, you could buy a months worth of lunch with $20-$50 and You would still have spendin money left. I got my own struggles too I am 24 years old and I have never owned a car due to the fact my family went throguh something and I had to steal and rob places and I had friends who had to sell drugs. Imagine the American dream being reduced to selling drugs and robbing people just to eat and Buy things. My landscaping jo I get $600-$800 I rarely ever see $1000 and To me that is a problem.

My name is Stef...I am an American who grew up in Detroit, MI and lived in poverty my entire childhood. From not having a place to stay, to living on the streets, to living in a shelter(C.O.T.S). During High School I worked 3 jobs, (Home Depot, Panera Bread, and a co called Sundries) I was very tired and tried to excel very hard in school. It was very difficult, especially looking at what everyone else had, that I didn't. And I don't mean the expensive name brand clothing. I mean a house (or my own room, with a bed to lay my head on) and a car, and having some savings for college. After I got out of HS I went to a community college, that I could afford graduated in business and now I work as a supervisor of a hospital. I am very grateful for what I have, but I will tell you to anyone who takes the time to read this, have fellow feeling for your neighbor and listen to the stories of others. You wont believe what's behind a smile.Cheers,
    Stef

I’m not saying your wrong but taxation isn’t theft. I work with guys who do nothing but complain about taxes, while at the same time being paid an additional 35.00+ per hour (on top of their normal hourly salary) by the state or federal govt..
It’s an awesome benefit for working with dangerous building materials and it’s an effective way of putting money in the hands of the working class.
Not all of your tax money goes to corrupt politicians. We subsidize corporations and wealthy people who pay MUCH less of a percentage of their total income..
Remember Romney? 13% the same year I paid 26%... Trump? How much you think he pays? All of the money they don’t pay is subsidized by working class Americans. That is where the problems lies...

I use to work 2 jobs one for 9.50 an hr and 1 for 7.25. Pulling 56-66 hrs a week no days for about a year before I got laid off + quitting the 7.25 for something bigger and better. I'm now reaping the rewards still from that 1 year hustle. I've had about 2 years off of coasting... I think I'm ready to go back for my next big hustle.

I can only think of maybe a handful that actually graduted and is doing well but still have to pay back all those student loans. Most are working jobs they didnt even go to school for. Colleges are really just a business that sell you a fake dream with empty promises of a possible job in your field if you have a degree. All a degree now is a piece of paper. It doesnt promise or ensures anything when its people that never went to college who is making about the same as someone who went its all a scam and the so called American dream of capitalism.

Guess who's on the news every single night?....peon criminals. Now look at big businesses who are allowed to charge virtually anything they want and/or endlessly scam customers in so many ways. Hell, big pharma can charge over a thousand dollars for a bottle of pills. Don't believe the lies about how it's due to "research and development costs". Even $350 is such a scam for so many different prescriptions. Where's the in depth reporting on these giant companies accounting records? Nowhere! Why is this not newsworthy? People need to start doing their own news research and learn for themselves the real issues. But look what your local news reports on tonight.....street crime. Get it? The media's job is to bombard us with bullshit news that actually is anything but the real news they are told to not inform us about! Big business crimes and big business legalized crime. If we all were able to watch these news stories for just the past two years, we all would know what's really been going wrong with our working class economy. People need to learn about what's not being reported that should be reported on. Just look at all the commenters pointing fingers at peons or "global economy" or opposing political party , just to name a few so common comments. Political party choice is never going to be the answer but look how many people get fooled by that game. It's all about corporate corruption. Or did I miss the small claims court tv episodes where a person won a lawsuit for being billed $350 ...or $900 for a bottle of pills?! Nope....this is totally legal! Why? Same for insurance costs and other medical fees. But some peon selling knock-off watches or designer label clothes on the street can be featured on the news! Really? Who the f%*k cares about this! Start seeking a job a job that pays you better and makes you happy. There's endless opportunities out there for everyone if we seek it. Sometimes we just have to put in some work. As for the bills. What bills are they? Can you close out some of those credit cards reducing your bills? How about that cable bill? Do you really watch all of those channels? Could you go to a lower plan or go basic? Questions like that you should ask yourself. Try minimizing or eliminating your bills and make things easier. Then you will see the light at the end of the tunnel and see that life can be beautiful and you do not have to go by fast nor do you have to grow old fast because I am American and i do not see things your way. i am enjoying life everyday through the good and bad times because I follow these very guidelines. Remember we only live once. So you stress yourself out for what?? I choose to enjoy my life you should do the same.

They did the work of going to college and getting the degree(s), now they're in debt and may still have to accept the same jobs that a person who hasn't gone that route would. @Sudhir Kakar The issue is there has been an increase in people becoming impoverished in America. That American dream that actually existed 30-40 years ago, does not exist anymore. Working harder and going to a good school is nothing to the bigger problem that capatilism renders on a society. You say education is to fix this all, well tell me what happens when everyone has a Docotorate, the value decreases, then what do we resort to? Experience? Then people demand higher sallaries because they have a PHD and businesses cannot function with everyone demanding higher sallaries, that means theres no profit and if theres no profit theres no incentive to run businesses, which means no jobs. School is not the answer to this problem, you should be smart enough to realise this.

Jaime Torres I’m going to be honest with you. We actually take care of our homeless veterans. I’m a Disabled Veteran and my husband is a Retired Disabled Veteran.
In all honesty, Veterans are just regular people and some of them have gotten kicked out of the military and have not gone back to change their statuses to a honorable discharge so they could be eligible for benefits. Then there are those who have PTSD like my husband who are just stuck. Luckily, my husband has me to help him through those hard times. I push him to be the best he can be. We are not discriminated by employers, especially when employers get special benefits for hiring veterans. There are also veterans with businesses and they hire other veterans. Our homeless programs are amazing. Unfortunately, those on the outside looking in don’t know what’s really going on because they hear these sob stories from either fake veterans or Veterans who weren’t smart enough to use their VA home loans while they were in service.

Minimum Wage Would Be $22 An Hour If It Had Kept Up With Productivity. “If we started in 1960 and we said that as productivity goes up, that is as workers are producing more, then the minimum wage is going to go up the same. And if that were the case then the minimum wage today would be about $22 an hour,” she said, speaking to Dr. Arindrajit Dube, a University of Massachusetts Amherst professor who has studied the economic impacts of minimum wage. “So my question is Mr. Dube, with a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, what happened to the other $14.75? It sure didn’t go to the worker.” Dube went on to note that if minimum wage incomes had grown over that period at the same pace as it had for the top 1 percent of income earners, the minimum wage would actually be closer to $33 an hour than the current $7.25.

By "business" I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level - I mean the wages of decent living."

Stannis Baratheon They reduced the price of labor and don't pay taxes on top of that. They also increased the demand for housing, causing housing prices to be inflated. Since companies now have more access to immigrant workers who are willing to take low pay - they can continue keeping wages low.

Steve Bia, of course they pay taxes, its idiotic to say otherwise. Someone must pay taxes on any money that a business make (which 'illegals' work in). The employers pay them less to use the money to pay taxes for those 'illegals'. Again, stop blaming the 0.01% illegals and be a man nad own up to your own faults.

15 an hr still won't do shit. What we need is a better economy and low taxes and less government regulation. You cannot live comfortably on your own on an a job that pays hourly. To make 40 to 50 thousand on a 40 hr week that's like 20 an hr before taxes. So you have to make like 25 to 30 an hr. But that's impractical. So get an education or a skill so you can make a decent salary. Get the government out, lower taxes, and make shit in America. We need to make America great again. At my first job, the owner was making less than $30,000 a year. I know this because I helped with payroll and accounting. He was struggling to pay the bills. He owned 100% of the company, but was still broke AF.
You also have workers at companies making 6 figures. Engineers, software developers, database admins, physicians, lawyers, accountants, traders, project managers, etc. They are not "owners" in any way. They work for someone else that makes more than them. But they live VERY comfortably. Nice home, good car, vacations, etc.
These people are the middle class, in the traditional definition of the word. The old spectrum used to be wealthy(owners of large business)> middle class(small business owners and skilled professionals > Working class(lower-paying blue collar workers like manufacturing or trades) > poor(those not working or with very limited part time employment)

Far more people make $80k now than back then though. $80k now is pretty average and middle class, professionals can hit that salary pretty easily. To earn $80k back then you had to climb really high up the corporate ladder to be a CFO, Program Manager, etc.

Don't worry, Universal Basic Income is already a rapidly growing idea in the western world. When the economy collapses, and the average American can't make ends meet, shit will hit the fan, the trend of automation and job loss will continue, and the VAST majority will be on your side. When that happens, the 50/50 political split will drastically shift LEFT-ward. When that happens, who are the majority going to support and bring into power??? The political leaders that tell them they need to "suck it up" and "pull themselves up by the boot straps", OR the political leaders promoting the handouts that the rich will be paying for.

That wouldn't make a difference, because of the Pareto Distribution which is basically a natural law that implies the INEVITABILITY of a hierarchy. Inequality is NOT the problem. The problem I see is POVERTY and the constant threat of HOMELESSNESS. I think the goal should be to have a society that continues to run on a competitive capitalist system, BUT, also has a social safety net that protects those at the bottom from ending up on the street, under a bridge or doomed to a life of slaving away 50+ hrs a week JUST to get by. I think with the current and coming technological trends of automation and A.I. it will be possible to do this, by eventually having some form of wealth redistribution (like a UBI) to push back against the inevitable destabilizing extremities of the Pareto distribution.

Estrada S Exactly. Sometimes I cant believe the comment sections.. People so want to believe that the world is a meritocracy even when the opposite is shown to them over and over again. It's a form of bias - when you've got it good you cant relate. I for one have learnt the hard way that excelling in school, having multiple university degrees in my field plus extra merits & work experience doesnt land me a decent job in my 30's whereas people with less schooling and merits get those jobs. But in the end I like to think of it like 'when a window closes a door opens' - the jobs I'm talking about arent that glamorous anyway so maybe it just pushes me towards something better. But it sure is devastating to find yourself in that situation! So I can totally relate and more, the guy on the video was doing the _right thing_ in helping out his family but nobody seems to even notice that here.. And saying he could just become manager overnight etc. - How do you know whose son/daughter walked over him with no credentials? Do you think he might have faced discrimination at some point? Again, if you havent lived it you wont believe it. Good luck to this guy and others in similar situations!!

This is a valuable lesson on why unions are so important to America. During America’s golden ages when workers stood in solidarity amongst each other against corporate greed. The middle class flourished. One income was enough to raise a family. Kids were raised by two parents as a unit. The list goes on.
