      It might be because this is similar to what you watched in your childhood, especially if you were a child of the 1950's and 1960's (when Hannah-Barbara cartoons were first shown) or a child who watch Cartoon Network in the 1990's and 2000's (when Hannah-Barbara cartoons were shown again)

    Fun fact, it actually says at the end it's from 1946, the year after the Second World War ended, so it is peacetime training film, not WWII.

    Funny thing is if you do everything right up to the cut, the plane does land it's self. At that point the pilot's biggest job is to judge if the wire is missed and he needs to do a missed landing. There is very little you can do at that late a point to improve a landing on a carrier deck and if you try you likely will cause big problems. The worst thing you can do is to ignore a LSO's wave off and try to save a bad approach.

    These banged up planes are probably lucky to be on the hangar deck - in reality they probably often just shoved them overboard to clear the deck, especially in wartime.

    Fun Fact: Modern Carrier landings require the jet to run full throttle once it catches (keep in mind it is slow when landing and no where near full speed on the approach) this is for safety reasons. On the very off chance of a system malfunction or the cord snapping, this ensures that the pilot can get off the deck safely and attempt another landing.

    The one thing that scary about leaning on an aircraft carrier in World War II is that you have to aim correctly of your front wheels to go first and then your hook the catch the wire because if your wheels catch the wire then the plane will go headfirst onto the deck

    To think this was the very beginning of carrier landings and they went virtually untested even until the start of the war these pilots had to learn a lot but once they did lead they could pass their information down to the younger pilots.

    If a “Normal Landing” is super rare, then it’s not a “normal landing.” The rough landings the planes were experiencing were “normal.”
