If you've never ridden one, the tractor analogy sounds spot on. The engine sound, the HP figure on paper, the weight and the lazy riding position - screams ocean liner. But don't be misled folks. Think Clark Kent and smile to yourself. If you are a decent rider you will outride a lot of sports bikes in the twisties. When I say a lot it's not about who's got more power it's about who can confidently use what they've got under them. The BMW's torque is more than enough to scoot you from corner to corner without shredding your tyres (or your ears). The key is this bike's ability to get in, lean over and get out of corners with confidence, that's where the advantage is. What you can't see is the balance and feel from these bikes. Once you know, you know.
The tractor analogy comes from long time riders of the RT! More torque than high RPM screaming, and reliability to keep going and going. And yes they have great handling to go with it! Out handling other bikes is more about out handling other riders, and it can definitely be done on this bike. The tractor comment is an indearing one not a negative one, that most veteran RT riders understand. It's a good thing!
French guy here, happy owner of a 1984 K 100 RT. You're a living add for this 1200. I have to confess that i was about to buy a Norge, and now, i am lost between the BM and the Moto Guzzi......Excellent work indeed.
Congratulations! Great bike! I hope you get some great riding in! It’s becoming an epic year to ride. Joshua tree, Death Valle, Alabama hills, and highway 1down the coast of CA, and riding season is just starting!!! I’m so excited for more!! Thanks for checking out the video!
I´ve had a 1996 R1100 RT a few years ago and that was my 1st BMW (after decades riding japaneses everything) and my first experience with Telelever sus and boxer engine. Even with 130.000+ Km on odometer the bike was fine, very easy handling, provinding great comfort despite a bit agricultural, specially the gearbox feel. The only issues were the old ABS system and the rear 18' wheel (a bit too hard to find good tires for it in my country). Sold the bike two years later and rode several japanese until now, when I've found a 2009 R1200 RT with just 30.000 Km on the odometer (bought fom a guy who had a leg problem and could not ride the RT anymore). The feeling is like coming back home with this bike. Ok, RTs are not for young, immature, testosterone-driven guys, it´s more suited for riders that have learned a few things about motorcycling over the decades. Despite the fact that the RTs hasn´t that crispy engine response or that boost acceleration sports bikes have, the power delivery is just steady, reliable and always there at any blip of the throtle. Spirited riding on back, twisty roads, carving corners, is so easy and so fast that you can do it for all day long, even with a pillion and fully loaded. And you can even surprise some leather covered newbies trying to tame those sporty crotch rockets here and there, while leaning until erase that Michelin logo on the edges of the fantastic Road 6 GTs. This is one of the most precise and honest reviews about R1200 RT I've found on YT. It describes the exact feeling a rider can have behind the bars of this great motorcycle!
...I can share and understand your enthusiasm! Since 2021 I have owned a newly purchased R 1250 RT / 719... with radar, inductive charging compartment, fully equipped! The best I've ever ridden after 8 motorcycles! I didn't want to drive it in winter...too much salt on German roads! Last week I bought an RT 1200 / 2009 😳😎 just for winter use...best regards from good old Germany! 😉✌️
Best review of BMW 1200RT air cooled on UA-cam. I own one and agree the handling is superb for such a large bike. I have surprised many sports bikes in the twisties - they just lack a little acceleration. I also think the turning circle and manoeuverability in small car parks is better than that of a sports bike. And of course they are supremely comfortable, you can add the panniers and go touring. It’s great to see someone finally riding one properly. I run Pirelli road pilot 4s on mine and the steep profile of the front suits the bike very well (especially for the type of riding you were doing) they are nice and sticky at the rear too (likely to get circa 7000 miles) for your sort of spirited riding. Thanks for the review. From England.
Thank you so much! Im going to get more videos out on this bike soon. A brilliant bike! A just got a ride in to jashua tree on the bike and posted a short video on the trip, it was a bit more of a test for a new camera i need to learn how and when to use, but it was a great 2 day 1,000 mile trip.
@@TRCAdventures acceleration is fine. If you tune it right. Have a BOSS exhaust and K&N filter with OBD tuning (beemers run lean on fuel) wich filters the little delay in the gasrespons of the beemer. Numbers of my 2005 GS1200 are 107bhp and 129,8nm on the wheel (was 100 bhp and 115nm). Goes like hell. Topspeed is the same but you get there quicker. A supersport is quicker but in the twisties most of them loose.
@@sokodad Hi, The air cooled RTs have a seat height a little higher than the liquid cooled from 2014 onwards. I’m 5’9 with 32 ish inside leg and wearing Rukka pants i was not flat footed even in the low position (the seats have two positions- high and low). At 6’1 you should fit comfortably in the high position. The only caveat is that your legs are more bent when riding and feet on foot rests than you would be on a BMWr1200GSA adventure bike, but saying this, I never felt uncomfortable or cramped and your legs are far less cramped than a sports bike or super naked etc. Also I was able to easily stand on the foot pegs whilst riding like I can on the GSs to stretch my legs if I needed too. You can probably purchase lowered pegs too if necessary. I rode spiritedly where conditions allowed and regularly used to get the toe of my feet down on a GS and GSA (which was a pain) but never once on the RT (and it was leant over just as far). Hope this helps.
Picked up a 2007 . Decided to try something different . Glad I did, my wife said it has the same carector as the motor guzzi. It has a certain charm about it. The suspension is better over rough roads that our goldwing. She has more air flow around her but, doestnt have the buffering . I think we both agree the quiet exhaust sounds is the bikes of our choice.
Excellent, we agree, my wife and I had a couple of time the Moto Guzzi bottomed out over bumps that the RT takes with no issues, We did a two up review as well ua-cam.com/video/D1mmxD8XDfs/v-deo.html We are headed out today for a two day trip up some amazing canyons and over the Sierrras, we are going to try and film that as well. Thanks for checking out the video
Surprised to see so many comments taking the tractor analogy negatively, as your intention seemed clear from your explanation. Oh well. Personally, this was very useful & you've got me thinking about an RT when I'm supposed ot be online sourcing a K. Thank you for your input & I hope you and yours are well.
@@Fractal379 thanks, yeah the comment was meant as a love for the motor! It's a good/great thing. As a contrast to that type of motor the k bikes are much more free revving like a sports car or super bike. Both are fantastic just completely different! It's hard to know what bike will suit you better, if you're looking at both and have a chance to rent each for two days of riding (on the roads you will likely spend your time on) the decision will be obvious. It will not likely be the same as the notes we put on paper. Another thing I do, is, standing off the bike, push the bikes around backwards and forward to see how comfortable I am parking the bike or moving it around, like I would in and out of my garage. Bikes like the FJ make me fear I will drop it, others fill me with confidence. Just another decision point! Have a great day!
Great review and analogy a boxer should be classified different that the FJR and C14 it's not as capable of blinding speed and acceleration but plenty of power.
G'day 🇦🇺🦘 I'm a 44 year old dude that has lived a blessed life in a beautiful environment called Tasmania.... Australia. In my 44 years I've ridden anything from a PeeWee 50, a KLR 250, a ZZR 250, VFR750, a GSX-F 650, a GSX-R 750, a Harley fatbay.... I picked up an ex Tasmanian police bike that was produced in 2009. Her name is "Betty" & out of all the previous mentioned rides.... This BMW R1200RT-p is the most enjoyed ride on the road 🙌
Thanks for the review. I have always admired BMW R bikes. I am considering an RT as my next purchase. This review and Sean's review at SRK have convinced me this should be my next ride. Thanks
They are great bikes, Sean at SRK seems like a good guy, and his reviews are a good honest opinion of the bikes. The RT's are quite versatile bikes. From long distance touring to canyon carving and even some dirt roads the bike feel at home.
You wont regret it mate. Got one 2 weeks ago. Came from a Honda ST1100... The RT is a massive step up in terms of comfort, safety, power and manoeuvrability. It's an absolute joy to ride.
I've owned a number of bikes in different styles, and while they were all great bikes and enjoyable to own, I just never felt that I had found "The One".....the bike that best suited my needs over as wide a range as possible. At 70, I sold my ADV bike and even considered putting an end to my riding.......until I found, in an unlikely coincidence, an ultra low mileage '05 R1200RT. I had long wished I could afford a new RT, but I struggled to justify that expenditure. I now own what is, for me, "The One". For a 19 year old motorcycle, I am constantly amazed at the satisfaction it delivers. Sure, it lacks many of the nice, and worthy, electronic features of the newer models, but it remains no slouch. For years, I wondered if the RT line was over-hyped, but now I know it was not. I can second pretty much everything stated about this bike in the review. Handling, comfort, reliability....zero complaints! To top ot off, the $23K plus that I saved over buying new pays for lots of miles on the road!
Definitely well stated! I actually bought a newer water cooled RT, and though yesterday it was better, the difference was not substantial, in fact on most occasions I forgot I was on the new bike (they were the same color) I finally realized there was no need for the upgrade, and for 4 time the cost I should have stuck with the 09 I was on! They are great bikes!
A great video and riding my friend. I own a 97 1100RT which have been using for touring and commuting almost all seasons. I once rode a 2009 1200RT and looved the riding position, braking and how nimble and scooter alike she was. I wish, I can save up some money and buy one before I stop riding(if I do!)
Thanks for checking out the video! I do love the 2009 and the way it rides, I love your comment about "scooter alike"! I think that is about right, it is a fun relaxed position.... perfect comment!
@@TRCAdventures I sold my Vulcan Nomad 1600 and need a more of an upright riding position. I've had the fast bikes. One being a GTR1400 that freaked me out one day when I looked down at my speedo and shit, 280km/hr solid as a brick shithouse. Washed it, detailed it and sold it 🤣
@@theOutbackBerean ah yes I've done the same thing on a few bikes, nope won't have a license long with that one, won't live long on this one, but the RT, just love it.
The R1150RT & R1200RT are both becoming very affordable. New R1250RT is pretty sweet but out of my price range. Found some R1100RT bikes but like the newer fairing/headlight look.
Close! its mines road, that section goes up to del valle lake, the other section I ride goes up to Mt Hamilton, check up 100miles of twisties ua-cam.com/video/N4Bnbc1LCBc/v-deo.html definitely worth the ride!
Vincent, thanks for checking out the video! I have both right now, vary good questions, i will do a complete comparison review side by side of these bikes next week. Comfort: the Moto Guzzi wins and as my wife puts it its the most comfortable bike she has been on. A close second is the bmw r1200gs (she has not been on the RT yet) ThecBMW has more room in the saddle for both rider and passenger, and the BMW offers more protection from the elements, rain wind.. The engine: the Moto Guzzi feels stronger it has more engine character with a sweet spot under power, the BMW pulls the same off idle as it does all the way through the rev range, consistent predictable and lovely. Im going to put more thought into this when i do the side by side comparison. If your subscribed you can hit that bell icon and it will notify you when that comes out. I plan to keep one of the bikes, im leaning toward the BMW, but more review is needed
Own a 08 r1200rt, 44k miles, after knee surgery I have to give it up, bike is just to high, lowered the pegs, still back to far, I know the reputation is there but I dont find the bike that comfortable handling is great, electronic windshield takes u completely out of the elements, maybe it's me but I like the goldwing better, I'm not into scraping pegs with a touring bike, dont get me wrong, this is a great bike, just not for me any longer
Ah yes the Goldwing is a excellent bike, much better position for the legs to be comfortable and a reverse gear helps maneuvering with out stress to the legs! there are also a few full dress cruiser bikes that I find I can stretch my legs a bit farther and provide some great comfort, but you can not go wrong with a goldwing
I think it would be a great choice! They have a fairly low seat, and with the suspension set soft it's lower! The weight is easy to manage and it never feels heavy, unless you're trying to push it up a hill!
The GS and the RT are much the same, my wife actually liked our GS slightly better for two up riding, though getting on and off is easier on the RT. I also found my GS skid plate fit the RT! This made for a fun trip with some soft road adventure riders, surprisingly stable on the dirt roads! LoL just once!
Great review! I am thorn between the 2007 Moto Guzzi and the R1200RT and since you have experienced riding both, I would like to hear your opinion about both of those beautiful motorcycles. Great video reviews, keep them coming!
Edwin, Thanks! Its a tough choice between the two bikes, i have bother right now and need to choose one! I will do a complete side by side review of the two bikes, and decide which i will keep and why. Both aee great and both have advantages, the motor in the moto guzzi feels more powerful, the BMW has more protection from the elements, the seat on the moto guzzi is more comfortable, the BMW has more room for rider and passenger. I will get in to more detail in the next video as i work through this.
@@TRCAdventures Thank you for doing that for us, I have been considering the Norge for a while now and was nearly committed to buying one until I saw an R1200RT up close... Please include also some maintenance aspects and potential issues from both of them and what price ranges to expect. Thanks again! Great work!.
Great review and I want and RT BUT I was looking at a 2009 police unit with 20,000 miles in good condition BUT between the fuel pump recall and fuel strip recall (was broken)and apparently the rear hub recall and the antilock cost possibility it’s pretty apparent why the price is in the 5 to 7 thousand dollar range and just did not make sense in my case
yeah, can totally understand that, I had one a few years ago with the Fuel strip issue, its a bit of a pain to fix, rear hub recall did not affect all bikes but is an easy fix. the cost of the RT "P" in that year range should be $3,500 to 4K, but I would no buy one just because they are way too hard to sell, no exit strategy. the 5 to 7 Thousand dollar rage should be a well sorted 09 RT. Thanks for checking out the Video, other bikes to consider like this are the Moto Guzzi Norge 1200 price is a bit less and they are super nice! I have a Video on that bike as well, love it!
Hey, sorry for my english I’m french, but how did you install the Quadlock? I’ve a 2007 1200 RT but I don’t know how I can install that for a good result.
J'ai utilisé un support RAM pour guidon, il s'adaptera sur le côté gauche juste en dessous de l'extrémité de la barre sur la colonne montante. Here is the video of the install ua-cam.com/video/rSa04GEvRaA/v-deo.htmlsi=D1f0PdKUfAz5YLOx
Should I be afraid of buying a 2010 R1200RT ? I have a Harley touring which is my only experience on bikes, and I kinda want to see what it's like to ride one of these.
yes! and I probably would not want to take a Tractor on a long trip, they are amazingly reliable and just seem to keep going and going "like a tractor" most sport cars are fast BUT not high on reliability or comfort, Oh hell, most tractors are not comfortable either, LOL! Thanks for checking out the Video!
Mind me asking how you fitted the phone holder? Did you replace the horizontal bolt for the left handlebar and fit a longer one or replace one of the ones attaching the bar to the yoke? I’m a little stumped on my rt as to which way to attach a quad lock Thank you and great review
I used a bar mount kit from RAM mounts, it's a I bolt that comes with most ram kits. It will only fit on the left bar riser, right at the top! It fits perfectly, easy install and just the right location to see it and easy reach for the left hand!
Thank you for the quick reply. Do you mean the ram ball with a hole down the centre? The only handle bar mount kit I see comes with the u bolts and a squared mount with a ball at the top. Sorry to be a nuisance 😬 but you’d be helping many r1200rt riders out mate. Thank you.
@@daveyboy23 no problem, I will try and make a quick video on the mounting setup today. The mount is the RAM Mounts Handlebar U-Bolt Base for Rails 0.5" to 1" in Diameter RAM-B-231U with B Size 1" Ball
Thanks, that one was pretty clear, but they can be polished out, best to pull them off and lay them on a think towel, then used an orbital polisher with 3m Polish!
The Honda ST is a fantastic bike, I have a few through the shop, but I don't think I ever published a review, many of my local law enforcement customers rode them, great Honda build quality and a smooth ride, the one thing to address on this bike has been high speed wobbles, actually a simple thing to fix/manage drop the front end 1/2" in the triple clamps and run the rear compression up, If you plan to ride near or above 100MPH (this is what the CHP did) you can also just not ride that fast! The issue seems to come from a combination of areodynamics soft springs and and load added to the bike. Again it's an easy fix on all the bikes we just dropped the front (5min adjustment) and ran a bit.more compression in the rear shock, and the bikes will run as fast as you want to go!
No!, a person "could" learn on this bike, but its not a good choice for learning how to ride. The best bikes to learn how to ride are small and easy to pick up when they fall, and bikes that wont crush you when they fall on you! An xt250 is a great bike to learn on, most motorcycle schools use 250cc motorcycle's to learn on, its just easier and more confidence inspiring! And fun!
2007 model year, servo assist was removed from the partially integrated brakes. A new, more advanced and lighter ABS system was produced by Continental Teves, I love how the system is so much more natural feeling than the older linked servo system, they both work, I just feel the later model is more natural feeling, what do you think? Thanks for checking out the video
@@TRCAdventures Mine was registered in 2010 and looks identical to yours, not sure which system it has but remember being told that the front and back were linked though if you’ve got used to usi;g the front and back brakes together on previous bikes it is hard to tell if the linking is making any difference. I was commuting about 100 miles a day into and out of London so a combination of big fast open roads at 80mph and weaving through London traffic in second and third gear where it is surprising well balanced if a bit lardy ... what you call “lane splitting” is called “filtering” in the UK where it is encouraged and actually a major part of the test to get your licence... so spent half my riding down the middle of the road inches from oncoming traffic which makes a man of you and is a great test of bike reliability, especially in the typical UK rainy weather :).
The 09 and newer no longer has servo breaks, but correct to say the are linked. In both models depending on which break you apply first changes the way the breaks are applied. This can be felt more so on the servo type breaking system where application of the rear break first will allow modulation between breaks apply the front first and the system has difficulty controlling modulation. The newer breaking system works better in both situations. Applying just the front brake the system will also apply some rear brake but not as much as if you had your foot on the rear break
I have the 2006 RT model. Love the bike but the seat really sucks. You can be honest…. It sucks. Mine has all the options and just turned over 55k and still running strong. (Hopefully).
I have had better seats for sure, but if I can put 500 miles at a time on this seat it's not bad in my book, many other bikes leave me in pain after just an hour. Maybe the seat on the 09 offers a bit more support or I'm running it at a different hight, or my bum has just become numb after all.thid riding!? Thanks for checking out the video
Well that's a tough call they are both great bikes, and both good at long distance touring, they share a lot in design too GS is taller and has more room for rider and passenger (my wife likes riding on it the Best. The RT Is lower and a bit more compact making it easier to get on and off. The GS can do more off road than the RT but the RT does quite well on dirt roads. They both handle remarkably well. The RT feels smoother and is really purpose built for all day touring. There is better weather protection on the RT. Then it's down to style and what you like.
I feel like I did that! Ah yes.... ua-cam.com/video/qWAe3UsqHY4/v-deo.html Hope that helps, I ended up getting a 2014 after the 09, so some videos there too!!! Thanks for checking out the videos 😊
@@TRCAdventures Thank you for the reply!! I was kinda hoping for more direct comparison in power difference, weight difference etc, not so much the numbers but if it changed the 'feel' "These days 2022 the 1200 and the 1150 pricewise are very close so I lean towards the 1150 for personal reasons (small overall, full fairing instead of just upper fairing...) but I wonder if the 'newer technology" is that much more impressive on the 1200 than on the 1150. ABS 1150 vs 1200, weight loss can you feel it when you drive, power upgrade is not impressive but is across the rpm range, was it needed... At 60 I am not looking at a crutch rocket anymore but I did look at a H 600RR 2004 and a Ducati 746. a- I would not be able to ride for long on these. b- I would likely not push them the way they deserve to, c- I would likely kill myself. So I am desperately searching if the R1200rt or 1150 rt is the bike for me. I love the boxer engine and that is a primary reason for this bike. I like your tractor comparison, I would compare that to a Jaguar e-type, mine would pull me out of a stop light like a tractor would kick you out of a thick puddle of mud! OUT and away! I am binge watching your channel, Thanks for the great videos!
@@Coyotehello for many of the reasons you talk about, I like the 1200rt with updates 09 and newer, breaks are so much better, power is smother through the rev range, with the same vibe as the 1150, Cruz control is nice. There is definitely a different approach to the body work, long distance comfort is improved by reducing the bubble you ride in, and is now more adjustable to the passenger, with the electronic screen. Of all the changes for me....the breaks on the 09 and newer bikes make all the difference in the world. And the cervo breaks BMW went to for a time are down right dangerous, in my opinion. I think the best value right now are the 09-2013 bikes and the price jump to the newer water boxer is probably not worth the value
I've had a few people drop by the shop to show me there bikes and the miles they have put on, I've seen over 300k on many of the bikes, one guy stopped by just turning 300k but his bike was only two years old, I started doing math in my head, wondering how much time he was spending on his bike, yikes! There are some expenses that come with higher mileage bikes, like a new clutch that job is quite expensive.
@@TRCAdventures If I do some math: this means non stop driving over 400 miles every single day. This guy must be spending about 8 hours a day driving. Of course this can't be done by one person. So this must be a bike used by the government or something. In that case I wouldn't buy one.
THE HEATED SEAT IS SO HOT I GET OFF MY BIKE AND I CAN FEEL THE HEAT COIMING OFF MY ASS FOR THE NEXT 120 SECONDS OR SO I LEARNED HOW TO RIDE IN 30 DEGREE WEATHER
I replaced the lowered foot pegs, with the stock foot pegs, because the lower ones scrapped the ground when cornering, it was quite annoying and a bit dangerous.
Oh my, now that I've watched THIS video, I am searching for a 1200RT instead of the 1150RT. Going to be patient, save some more, then see what I can find :D
I can see your side, I'm thinking of tractors in the sense of the ultimate in reliability and built for tourqe over ultimate Horse power, they also have a bit of rough and tough transmission, all purpose built to get the job done! And they do an amazing job at it! Great bikes anyway you put it!
Please stop talking because you’re descriptions are way off on the description of a Tractor. This is a great and the best handling touring bike ever made that will pull wheelies and ride them if your capable, to the next corner.
The description, tractor, is a term of endearment used by many older, long term RT owners and that of the engineers that built them, we love these machines and they are as fun as they are dependable. Tractors are powerful reliable machines well respected by those that know them same as with the RT.
I live in beautiful Tasmania, Australia 🦘🦘🦘🇦🇮 I own an ex but loved BMW R1200RT-P Ex Tasmanian police bike. I've been blessed to sit my arse on many a ride kids and I can only advise you this... on a motorcycle The 09 🇩🇪 nailed it 💦❤️
Well I wish I had a set around, ebay may be a good place to find some.people tend to sell them rather than repair when they get scratches, quite easy to repair! Could be worth a try

Question for you, how well would they fit a bigger guy? I’m about 6’1” and pushing 300# but I carry it well.
Excellent, we agree, my wife and I had a couple of time the Moto Guzzi bottomed out over bumps that the RT takes with no issues,
We did a two up review as well

We are headed out today for a two day trip up some amazing canyons and over the Sierrras, we are going to try and film that as well.
Had my 2009 a couple of weeks and so far I love it nice review too👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for checking out the video,
These are such great bikes, super capable. Thanks for the comment!
Great review and analogy a boxer should be classified different that the FJR and C14 it's not as capable of blinding speed and acceleration but plenty of power.
I would agree about the power output of the other bikes, but yes plenty on tap for intended use!
G'day 🇦🇺🦘
I'm a 44 year old dude that has lived a blessed life in a beautiful environment called Tasmania....
Now that is a testament to the quality of the RT and RT-p great bikes "great riders" love! cheers !
I just bought a 2003 r1150rt with 56000 Miles and it runs like new, and looks almost new except a couple scratches on the hard saddle bags
Nice, congratulations on the new bike!!!
@@TRCAdventures thank you brother it's actually my first bike

Congratulations great bike!!!
@@TRCAdventures So impressed.
Love tractor.have 2010..love it 47000 miles tracking like new..great review..😃
Thanks!
Yep I think you have the best RT ever, the 2010!!!!
Loved the video, add one of these biggest regret selling it, now going to get another 👍
I did the same thing, sold that 09 totally regretted it so I bought a 2014! Very similar, love it!
I have this exact bike. Excellent review!
Glad you like it!
I'm looking at picking up one of these, thanks for the review 🍺
You are welcome, fantastic bike!
I agree, the 2009-2011 seem to be in the sweet spot!
That looks like a fun road to ride. What road is it? I’m in Alameda and it looks like the road to Wente.
Close! its mines road, that section goes up to del valle lake, the other section I ride goes up to Mt Hamilton,

Going to get one after this review, thanks buddy you convinced me!

Nice review !
I hesitate between the Moto Guzzi Norge and this BMW.
How do you feel between these two machines? ( Comfort, engine, passenger ...)
Vincent, thanks for checking out the video! I have both right now, vary good questions, i will do a complete comparison review side by side of these bikes next week.
Comfort: the Moto Guzzi wins and as my wife puts it its the most comfortable bike she has been on. A close second is the bmw r1200gs (she has not been on the RT yet)
ThecBMW has more room in the saddle for both rider and passenger, and the BMW offers more protection from the elements, rain wind..
@@TRCAdventures Thank you very much for your answer.
Your impressions are really useful to me.
Just sold my 2002 1150rt☹️. Bought a 2009 1200rt. They are so amazing for a touring bike!
Nice, how did you like the 2002 RT, I plan on picking one up this week for a comparison review.
I love the 2009!
Thanks for checking out the video
@@TRCAdventures loved it! Rode it for 88,000 miles.
*Well done!* Great review.
Thanks
Is it a bad choice for a short rider? (165cm) 😅
I think it would be a great choice! They have a fairly low seat, and with the suspension set soft it's lower!
The weight is easy to manage and it never feels heavy, unless you're trying to push it up a hill!
Great review! Just picked up a ‘04 1150RT, but can’t figure out how it likes to be driven. Low revs, or high 🤔
The 1150 makes it's power lower in the rev range, it can still rev out but those torque pulls are what it likes that and pulling off of idle!
When my 07' 1200GS is tired and done, this will be my next 👍❤
The GS and the RT are much the same, my wife actually liked our GS slightly better for two up riding, though getting on and off is easier on the RT.
I also found my GS skid plate fit the RT!
This made for a fun trip with some soft road adventure riders, surprisingly stable on the dirt roads! LoL just once!
I just got an 06 with 23000 mi for $2500.00.. i Think i got a deal .. no scratches no dents
Sounds good!
Great review! I am thorn between the 2007 Moto Guzzi and the R1200RT and since you have experienced riding both, I would like to hear your opinion about both of those beautiful motorcycles. Great video reviews, keep them coming!
Edwin,
Thanks!
I'm renting one in June out of Denver Co, wish me luck
should be an amazing ride in Colorado, one of my all time foveate places to ride! have fun
It’s now July. How was the RT in Colorado?
Great review and I want and RT BUT
I was looking at a 2009 police unit with 20,000 miles in good condition BUT between the fuel pump recall and fuel strip recall (was broken)and apparently the rear hub recall and the antilock cost possibility it’s pretty apparent why the price is in the 5 to 7 thousand dollar range and just did not make sense in my case
yeah, can totally understand that, I had one a few years ago with the Fuel strip issue, its a bit of a pain to fix, rear hub recall did not affect all bikes but is an easy fix. the cost of the RT "P" in that year range should be $3,500 to 4K, but I would no buy one just because they are way too hard to sell, no exit strategy. the 5 to 7 Thousand dollar rage should be a well sorted 09 RT.

Should I be afraid of buying a 2010 R1200RT ? I have a Harley touring which is my only experience on bikes, and I kinda want to see what it's like to ride one of these.
If it's in good shape, no, you should not be afraid, in fact I think the 2010 may just be the best RT to get.
@@TRCAdventures Thank you! 👍
I own a R1200RT and prefer sportcars over tractors.....;-)
yes! and I probably would not want to take a Tractor on a long trip, they are amazingly reliable and just seem to keep going and going "like a tractor" most sport cars are fast BUT not high on reliability or comfort, Oh hell, most tractors are not comfortable either, LOL!
Thanks for checking out the Video!
Mind me asking how you fitted the phone holder? Did you replace the horizontal bolt for the left handlebar and fit a longer one or replace one of the ones attaching the bar to the yoke? I’m a little stumped on my rt as to which way to attach a quad lock
Thank you and great review

The 09 BMW R1200RT

Just the right mix of what you need and no more!!!
What about the Honda ST1300?
I
getting some good riding in! nice, they road trip like magic too!!!
Could this be a good first (learner) bike?
No!, a person "could" learn on this bike, but its not a good choice for learning how to ride.
The best bikes to learn how to ride are small and easy to pick up when they fall, and bikes that wont crush you when they fall on you!
An xt250 is a great bike to learn on, most motorcycle schools use 250cc motorcycle's to learn on, its just easier and more confidence inspiring! And fun!
@@TRCAdventures Ok, Thanks!
I want this to be my first bike
They are super nice, fun to ride and though they look large, not an intimidating bike at all to ride!!!
Back brake is linked to the front brake.
How did you set up your quadlock?
I used a RAM mount her is the video of the setup
ua-cam.com/video/rSa04GEvRaA/v-deo.htmlsi=koHfvjSpG2TMAMow
What is your iPhone handlebars support thanks
Im using the quad lock, with a short ram mount extension on a standard handle bar mount, it just fits at the top of the left risers,
(JUST THE FRONT BRAKE?) WASNT AWARE YOU COULD APPLY THE FRONT ONLY DUE TO THE SERVO BRAKES
How good is an RT 🙏❤️🙌
It's So good!!!! Thanks for checking out the video
Better than GS? ;) even if I never tryed any of them haha good for 190 cm guy?
Well that's a tough call they are both great bikes, and both good at long distance touring, they share a lot in design too
GS is taller and has more room for rider and passenger (my wife likes riding on it the Best.
The RT Is lower and a bit more compact making it easier to get on and off.
The GS can do more off road than the RT but the RT does quite well on dirt roads.
They both handle remarkably well.
The RT feels smoother and is really purpose built for all day touring.
There is better weather protection on the RT. Then it's down to style and what you like.
but but... you never did the comparaisin between the R1150 and the R1200? :-/

300k miles normal? To be honest I never saw one with that mileage.
@@hermanstokbrood I totally agree, even if he bought the bike in the previous year, that is still an unbelievable amount of miles.
THE HEATED SEAT IS SO HOT I GET OFF MY BIKE AND I CAN FEEL THE HEAT COIMING OFF MY ASS FOR THE NEXT 120 SECONDS OR SO I LEARNED HOW TO RIDE IN 30 DEGREE WEATHER
That's interesting, the heated seat on my 09, was not that hot, I could feel it but definitely not hot.
Wait. Say that again please. “Removed the foot pegs because…”?
I replaced the lowered foot pegs, with the stock foot pegs, because the lower ones scrapped the ground when cornering, it was quite annoying and a bit dangerous.
Oh my, now that I've watched THIS video, I am searching for a 1200RT instead of the 1150RT. Going to be patient, save some more, then see what I can find :D

What a bad analogy. Really tractors! The RT is one of the best if not the best handling touring sport touring bikes ever made, tractors, really!!
