Glen Campbell is under appreciated today. He’s a great musician and was really popular back in the day. With UA-cam, it’s cool to watch old stuff. I like Wichita Lineman.
Glen was panned by much of pop music media writers in the 70's and 80's. That said, musicians and producers have always praised him and relied on his talent. Country music considered him the pinnacle of talent. Recent years have been kind to his talent and memory. I think people today appreciate his career more than ever.
Where are you FINDING these gems? I thought I'd seen everything on network TV. What a pairing of musical giants and geniuses. I can't say enough about both artists and am impressed so much by Glen Campbell's ability to exchange punches. This must have been from Glen's old network TV show. Glen is / was a virtuoso himself.
Glen Campbell said in some interview I can't remember which one that this was one of his all time favorite performances on TV and the most fun he's ever had .
In today's world 🌎, I now realize how lucky I was being able to watch all of these live TV performances in the 60s and 70s. Thank you for bringing them back to be seen by younger generations, through your analysis videos. 💖💖
This is a such great song written by Bob Dylan back in 1962. It has been recorded by so many people. I have never seen this version of the song & the pairing of these 2 great legends. They do an awesome job!
I think I first subbed to your channel when you had 13K people. I did not like reaction videos so I was almost ashamed to click on the first video. But I liked what you had to say. You were so respectful of the artist, and you talked about the music instead of yourself. And I clicked on another. And another...and now you have 266K. And you have the best comments section on you tube. Merci to your community. I already saw this video since it was suggested by one of your subs. I watched it and was blown away. And watched it again. And tonight another time. For your analysis. I wasn't surprised that you didn't stop it. In fact, I smiled. Merci. I saw that you made a comment about the climate and the heatwave. I've been aware of the problem for 45 years since my cousin was a climate scientist. And I used to work for the fossil fuel industry. And hated it. And I made it known. I wanted to live with the wind and the sun. And I've been proposing to live with Windyday Concept and fighting for it for 20 years. With no results. Even the climate groups believed all the fossil fuel lies. Until this weekend. They apoligized today. It's too late, but that helped. Stay cool.
Two different styles of singing coming together so beautifully. This song is so relevant today. When will be able to live with each other in peace...the answer is blowing in the wind. When will love ove power hate once and for all...the answer is blowing in the wind. These aren't verses that I know to be in this song but intent is. Music is meant to speak to the heart. Glenn and Stevie did this without a doubt.
I've always appreciated Glen Campbell, but I've never heard him really cut loose like this. I was really apprehensive about pairing him with Stevie, but wow, what an awesome duet!
It is difficult to convey to the uninitiated the sheer talent of these two phenomenal artists - both were writers, singers and musicians, and both enjoyed long successful careers over decades - an achievement few can emulate. Campbell was incredibly versatile and a brilliant guitarist; his contribution to the awesome Wrecking Crew (to the young or unaware, I highly recommend researching the sheer impact of this band of "session musicians" on popular music production of the 60s/70s) preceded a great solo career. Excellent post, Fil. Added footnote: I've suggested checking out The Wrecking Crew, but of course check out these two also. I challenge anyone not to like "Superstition" by Wonder or the haunting *Wichita Lineman" by Campbell.
This was awesome. I had a music teacher that made us sing this song every day. I got so tired of the song. I couldn't stand to hear it anymore until I heard this. These two were just awesome together. Rest in Peace Glen. Thank you, Fil, for doing this one. Made me appreciate the song more now. Stay safe, cool and take care.
Positively brilliant. The most powerful version of his classic folk song I have ever heard. Whoever would of thought that these two men, walking in totally different musical paths, could combine to give us this work of hope and joy? Glen Campbell's face says more than his words the respect and fulfillment he has singing with Stevie. A total pleasure, thank you so much.
More excellent content Fil, It's true Glen was a enormous force and played on so many hits as well as being a consummate performer with a relaxed attitude, to see him and Stevie together was new to me. Great analysis
Turned it into a soul song. Sooo many great versions of this classic Dylan song! This is one of the best one's. Thx for not stopping it in the middle! We used to sing this song & other folk songs at church camp for teens when I was young. I was younger as my dad was a very liberal Methodist Minister & loved hanging out w the "big kids." There would always be a cute guy w a guitar leading the songs.
A lot of us get that we grew up in a Renaissance. What the hell happened to us? This is another extraordinary find, Mr. Fil! Thank you sincerely for that and for your well considered, discerning, keen analysis! Cheers!
What a beautiful respect from Glenn Campbell with Stevie Wonder and vice versa that alone made my heart pitter patter… I just love both these musicians and artists incredible thank you for sharing
The soundtrack of my childhood is broadly diverse and inclusive. These two guys sang their fair share of it. It's great to hear them perform so tightly together. Beautiful.
Hi fil...i own old records from both these great artists.. glen campbell has such a beautiful voice.. I love your observations of the artists and your break downs are super fascinating.. it was a lovely experience to watch glen looking on as stevie did his part.. I'm sure stevie could feel that on some level..as you said fil respect for your fellow man.. also fil..music can heal and bring joy but so can smiles.. and your smile is magical.. keep on shining fil.. love and blessings to everyone from dallas in new zealand
I was already a fan of _both_ of these artists, but these vocals...DAMN!!! I don't know that I've ever heard either of them just _wail_ like this...and their _range!_ WOW!!!
Fil, this was fantastic. I had never seen this performance before and it was outstanding! As of course, was your analysis. So interesting. Thank you for this and for all you do.
Nice one! I think it's a shame that Glen Campbell is being rather forgotten nowadays because he was an awesome musician and great singer. And interestingly, because of his great hits like Witchita Lineman, and his successful TV series, he's almost completely unknown nowadays as a guitarist - the man was a jaw-droppingly good guitarist and it's worth trawling UA-cam to check out some of those moments when he simply breaks out on the guitar and leaves everybody in the dust. Of course, you didn't get to be a member of "The Wrecking Crew" unless you could step into a recording session and play anything you were asked to play, but Campbell was, to say the least, almost over-qualified for that job.
Glen and Stevie's performance was splendid in countless ways. I was reminded of you saying about music being the universal language and Paul Young saying, "Music is the best form of communication." I think it's safe to add "and connection" to Paul's quote because it definitely showed. You hit the nail on the head when you said, "We've got soul in this performance." I shudder to think if someone added auto-tune to it. Glen and Stevie showed how two musicians of different genres can join together beautifully in a performance. Thanks for your wonderful analysis, Fil!
Those two were definitely enjoying themselves especially at the end. It kind of reminds me of how David Bowie and Mick Jagger were clearly having fun covering "Dancing In The Street " in that video.
Bob Dylan is the most covered songwriter in modern music history. It's because his songs have a profound impact on many people, and remain relevant many years later, after they were recorded. This is a great duet between Glen Campbell and Stevie Wonder. I've seen Bob Dylan live in 1990. Thanks for sharing this analysis video. Cheers, Fil! ✌️
As noted earlier, Glen played by ear. Glen's ears are top notch and were integral to his success with the Wrecking Crew and playing across so many styles and genres of music for so many years. Those excellent ears enhanced his singing prowess regarding being on pitch and natural talent for developing his range. Even with great ears, it is equally important that the musician listens to the other musicians that they are playing with. I think that Glen was a great listener. BTW: When Glen subbed in for Brian Wilson on Beach Boy tours, he played bass and sang the falsetto parts. I wasn't surprised that Glen and Stevie were great together. Great analysis Fil. Cheerio. 🎸😎
This needs to be played in the US Capital everyday to remind us of what still needs to change,. Fabulous Duet by two of the Best Vocalists/ Musicians of the 20th Century!
Did Glen Campbell adjust to Stevie's Style? Grrreat vocalist? Seriously soulful, moving emotionally, thank God for these guys and Fil's videos with analysis 🙏
Fabulous to see Glenn Campbell’s artistry and generosity. I think this performance shows why he was such a respected studio musician in his early career.
Fil there is a video by Glenn Campbell and he does "" Gentle on my Mind "" look for the video by a channel called Breautube, he does a solo in the middle its incredible. Fil Glenn was a muscians , musician, there is an interview on yt. Glenn and Alice Cooper lived next door to each other they were great friends, Alice said you would not believe the guitarists that sought Glenn out for a lesson etc. Alice said Eddie Van Halen ask himto see if he could get a session with Glenn. Like always Fil Great channel My Friend.
Alice Cooper Reflects on the Amazing Talent of His Close Friend Glen Campbell. Dont want to bother you Fil this is the 4:00 clip of Alice Cooper on Glenn guitar playing. Thank You.
Wow what a true gym I didn't even know that was out there where did you find that at that's awesome I would have never ever imagined those two singing together but their voices blended so well together on that two-part Harmony wow wow wow Thanks Fil 👋👋👍🤘🎸❤️
There is a tendency (at least in the US) to dismiss country music singers. I’m happy to be seeing a new appreciation for the true artists developing. The best thing about this though is the pure joy on Glenn’s face in the last verse. Stevie Wonder is his own special kind of magic.
I am always fascinated by artists who can successfully take a song from a different genre and make it their own by transposing it into their own genre. This is true artistry. And this is what I like best about you, Fil, you can analyze anything anyone sends at you even if it is not your own preferred genre.

I used to love The Glen Campbell Good Time Hour. It started out as a summer replacement for The Smothers Brothers when they were on hiatus but it was so popular that the network gave him his own time slot. That show introduced us to Jimmy Webb, John Hartford, Bobby Gentry and a lot of other great writers and performers.
Wasn't Glen in The Wrecking Crew for a while as a session guitarist? Had to be fast sight readers and improvisers. Got a couple of shots at each track.
Absolutely awesome choice and analysis. Many thanks Fil for sharing two brilliant artists who are national treasure and amazing contribution to music. ☮️

Love the song Wichita Lineman. I knew it first as a Brasil 66 or 77 song, only later I discovered Glenn's, the original I guess.
Three words: Glenn Campbell underrated... Okay.
true legends - Glen and Stevie
Where are you FINDING these gems? I thought I'd seen everything on network TV. What a pairing of musical giants and geniuses. I never would have thought that these two would have “meshed” so well. All I can say is WOW! Glen Campbell one of the best musicians ever.
Glen and Stevie? Wow! I've never seen this one! Two great performers....and in their prime!
Glen Campbell said in some interview I can't remember which one that this was one of his all time favorite performances on TV and the most fun he's ever had .
Glenn had dipped his musical toes into so many styles by then, nothing he did could surprise me. He wore his Wrecking Crew badge proudly.
Indeed he did
In today's world 🌎, I now realize how lucky I was being able to watch all of these live TV performances in the 60s and 70s. Thank you for bringing them back to be seen by younger generations, through your analysis videos. 💖💖
I expected Stevie to be super but Glen was that and then some! And I know lots of Glen's stuff ;)
Glenn started out as a recording studio musician.50,000 hours of love buildt up in guitar playing
Amazing how effortlessly Glen can adapt to and complement Stevie's unique vocal style.
A country singer, a soul singer, singing a folk song gospel style😄
Glen, Stevie, Dylan and you! Truly cool combo!
Goodness Fil! This is fantastic. Two wonderful voices joining together. Thanks Fil.
This is a such great song written by Bob Dylan back in 1962. It has been recorded by so many people. I have never seen this version of the song & the pairing of these 2 great legends. They do an awesome job!

I saw this as a Kid, I love Glen Campbell and have most Stevie's album. when i saw True Grit and Glen got shot, I was in tears
two giants and they blend quite well.. that's why they are so great. Glenn could play in any style, quite the musician

This is my absolute favorite version of this song. The heart and soul they pour into the performance has me verklempt.
"Blowin' in the Wind" is song of the 1960s - civil rights activism and the Vietnam War. These two legends sing it with passion and meaning.

Along with prince and George Harrison.
Oh wow awesome fil never seen this performance before this was great very well done
Wow, I never saw this before. Campbell is beast. All those perfect records, of those perfect Jimmy Webb tunes. Sang like an angel and guitar to burn.
Beautiful collaboration sung with such heart and soul. Great analysis regarding the technical abilities for both vocals.
Very wonderful presentation. Thank you.
I love your commentary. You’ve opened my imagination and brain! ❤️‼️

Thanks Fil 👏👏👏I’ve never seen this before….wow Glen really shines here….master guitarist, but also a great vocalist and performer 👏👏👏😎👍🏻🥂

WOW. Great version. The best I've heard
Great analysis Phil! I've enjoyed watching and listening!
Wow! That was an awesome performance by two great singers, Stevie and Glenn! It also was another incredible analysis, thank you, Fil!
Bravo, Fil. Performance and analysis equally outstanding.
Was just listening to Stevie in the car for the first time in years and thinking about how great he is. So I particularly enjoyed this analysis.
Wow! This is great! Thank you for bringing this--very special. 💯
I was thinking when you didn't jump in that you couldn't bring yourself to do so.
Fil is so smart! Great call to let it play straight through. I was praying for that as I was listening. Fil, you are the best!

I couldn’t stop myself from singing along. Like others have said: two beautiful powerful voices.
An example of musical syncretism - what a nice song . I have heard it for the first time .
Two of my favorite singers. Love this performance of this classic folk song. Great analysis, Fil.
Great performance and analysis. Do more Stevie Wonder please!
