It's really true what they say. It's like when I read things that say if you want to make a successful film, you have to see if there's a market for it. That's the worst advice ever, if you're trying to make a splash. Studios can chase the market, but the market changes all the time, and indie film makers cannot afford to second guess it. Indie film makers are the people who plant the seeds that shape the market, because they know the only way they're ever going to stand out is to be different; to be try to their own vision.

Well said. You're right. Indie film makers have to experiment, take risks and get creative to make memorable films with a low budget. If a small indie film that is different becomes popular, Hollywood will jump on board and try to cash in on a different genre/ style of film

I know plenty of people who have played Sundance without having personal connections; it's definitely not necessary to be accepted.

And people also win the lottery..You were one of the few lucky ones, i believe the number is 0.75% get in..Sundance has turned into Hollywood east, you basically have to have a star cast to get in.. they will take you in a few outliers to round out the festival..most people don't have 100k to spend on a film, if i had that, id make one hellava film..

Well done on the nomination at Sundance! Not knowing Chris Byrne but his voice has the same lilting accent of the Irish actor Gabriel Byrne! Or you guys related?

Save your money and search festival databases for the right audience and judges for your film. I used to live right next door to a Sundance representative in L.A. but never even spoke to her other than "hi" because I knew they would reject me based on the political tone of my ideas alone. I buried Sundance in my backyard years ago.
