- Earth & Fire was a Dutch progressive rockband from the 1960's. The group started with twin brothers Chris (guitar) and Gerard (keyboards) Koerts. They were the main composers of the band. Lead singer was Jerney Kaagman who later also came to prominence as head of the jury of TV program 'Idols'.
Earth & Fire had a string of hits in the early 1970's starting with "Seasons", "Ruby Is the One", and "Wild and Exciting", Later came "Invitation", "Storm and Thunder" and "Memories" between 1970 and 1973.
"7 8Th Avenue reached #18 in the Dutch Top 40 in December 1977.
Unfortunately Gerard Koerts deceased on 20 February 2019 in Pergignan, France.

No. Earth & Fire are unmatched in versatility and sophistication.

Zo blij dat ik dit allemaal mee kon maken. Earth and Fire! Lekker op het strand, radio Veronica en Noordzee. Super Nederlandse bands. En wat is de mentaliteit van de mensen toch veranderd. Het was zo relaxed.

I know a lot of people don't like Earth and Fire's disco pop stuff and I'm one of them, but this song is genuinely good. It stands up a lot better than their 80's stuff like weekend and dream.

Maybe this was a tribute/hommage to their progressive rock days....this was released in 1977, so this was BEFORE 'Weekend' - progressive rock was at its PEAK

Oh really? They blow ABBA out of the water with these "half-baked" disco pop. More depth, more diversity and Jerney was a more expressive and warmer voice than Agnetha. Popularity means nothing.

En in 2019 Gerard Koerts... Hopefully reunion in heaven.....
Hier drumt Ton van der Kleij nog, Ab Tamboer kwam pas later. Beiden geweldige drummers, leeftijdsgenoten, zo'n 1,5 jaar na elkaar, beiden nog veel te jong, gestorven. Ook Kees Calis, de oorspronkelijke eerste drummer, is ons al ontvallen.

Graag een reactie van een Nederpop specialist....Jerney zou een kortstondige 'relatie' gehad hebben met Barry Hay, en zelfs even een vakkundige blik geworpen hebben op diens defecte auto...Enige aanwezigheid van keiharde realiteit in dit vreemde relaas?

Inderdaad een wat minder succesvol/aansprekend /whatever nummer. Opnieuw beluisteren laat opnieuw enorme muzikaliteit horen. En ja dat bands een beetje meebewegen met hun tijd is niets uitzonderlijks. Dus bewoog E&F een beetje mee met de disco tijd , niks mis mee. Dit nummer vormde de opmaat naar "weekend" hun grootste hit uit 1979.
