  • This past week, I caught myself pulling an all nighter for school work and to really get myself up to speed. It's been so easy in Zoom University to really fall behind on school work. So, by pulling this all nighter, I really caught up and felt better. However, pulling an all nighter isn't the greatest thing either and it's really hard sometimes! But if you are determined to catch up on school work, pulling an all nighter definitely works for me to catch up. But it's not for everyone(: Happy studying(:

I pulled all-nighters often. When you get close to the end everyone does. You can get the work done and I felt good about it. It was novel. Years later my employer wanted my project done and suggested that I do an all nighter. I said no. By that time I was mindful of “Working for free.” We even had a client that found out we could work the weekend to get his drawings done. Today I like reading how architects should be in a union.

I often pull an nighter. My first year as an architecture student wasn't easy. I was used to pulling an all nighter. But I finaly got used to it. Nathalie Perri you're a great student. Thank you for sharing your experience with us from far away.

You’re a beast girl! I don’t think I’ve ever pulled an all nighter. I’ve come close but ended up sleeping for 2-3 hrs 😅

I pulled many an all-nighter on my undergrad, and especially during Master's. I have major executive dysfunction, and was basically physically incapable of working outside of a deadline-induced panic which has been the bane of my existence as a student and also as a human being. Which reminds me of one particular all-nighter for my last MA project. I was sick of not getting work done until basically no time before the deadline, so I committed to an all-nighter a day earlier than I would usually be forced to by the deadline, and despite my best efforts to limit any destractions, all that meant was I sat staring at my computer screen with no steps forward coming to mind, and when morning came I had possibly the only honest-to-god breakdown of my student life. I'll spare you the details, but the most annoying thing is I could've slept that night and I'd be more or less exactly where I was anyway, and now I only had one night again. So that was frustrating.
Wouldn't recommend all-nighters if, unlike me you're...y'know, functional. but they've saved my neck every time.

@@UnravelingArchitecture No, nothing so useful I'm afraid XD, I'm a theatre major, (being on a Performing Arts course as a wheelchair user was...interesting) PA Undergrad, my Master's was called Performance Practices, but it was basically more of the same, except on steroids. the breakdown I described was definitely the worst one, obviously there was the near-constant anxiety (oftentimes I couldn't even email tutors for help even knowing full-well that's what they were there for and expected) and the all-nighters were stressful but I wouldn't trade my student time for anything. the friends I met there and life I had for that time was worth all the deadlines and then some. I don't even know what it would be like with COVID around. Hopefully it's still a fulfilling experience.
You stay well too, and keep at it! :)

Many, many years ago I toyed with the idea of a second career in architecture. I have a seizure disorder that is under good control, but sleep deprivation is a major seizure trigger for me. I talked to quite a few architecture students and recent graduates. They all said that architecture school wasn't easy, but it was more time consuming than difficult. After hearing all the stories of the cots stowed in their studio cubicles, I abandoned the idea. I truly admire you for dealing with years and years of the grind.

Pride and Prejudice, good choice. I’m interested in how you are using your iPad Pro. I see you were using Rhino there to extract the lines from an image. That is so tedious, there has got to be a better way. I think what would help is a script that lets you pick diagonal corners with a preselected way width and the script creates a surface then puts you back in sketch mode to pick the next diagonal set. I have a number of scripts I used to use. One of my favorites was one for when you are working in 3D space with a lot of construction planes, a single tap and it creates a smal surface on the origin of the construction plane then hides the reference layer where all of these are stored. When you want to move to a previous CP it turns on the reference layer, you select the pad where you want to change to and puts you there and turns off the reference layer. That was an idea I took from CATIA. Scripts in Rhino are really powerful time savers.

Starting to enjoy you’re vídeos even though I have no idea of architecture, but they are very interesting. When you pulled a all nighter do you go to school after that? Or those are only in the Weekends? Greetings from Long Beach Cali.
