Hey Tom, nice DIY on what's becoming an issue with crappy gas/ethanol/poor storage habits! My daughter & I did similar job on her Hyosung 250 with good results. "Sea sickness" only from a Navy man..lol.. Go Navy!
@@GASJful I can’t recall exactly, but a good start is to gently seat the air/fuel mixture screw and back it out about two full turns. You can adjust it from there after it’s running and at normal operating temperature.
Hi Tom, I have discovered a love of long distance riding and have done 20, 000 of the 30, 000 km my TTR 250 (2012) around Australia by myself. I am searching for a video to prepare my bike for my trips as I'm very un -mechanical and want to learn in case things go wrong. I'm also tech dumb too as I tried looking to see if you had done one already as I find you very easy to follow. 4000 km in 11days of outback tracks. Gotta love the TTR, thanks if you could help
The TTR250 isn’t a common bike here in the USA but I have three friends that own them. I have done just a few videos on them. What do you need to do to prepare your bike?
@@robertmichael6054 I don’t know if anyone even offers a kit for these bikes? I have a couple friends with 250’s, if I do another carburetor on them I will make a video.
Watch a couple videos about removing the carburetor, disassembling it and reinstalling it. Buy a carb rebuild kit before you start. Buy a few cans of carb cleaner. Buy a few cans of whatever beverage you like. Maybe buy a few for your friend who has done this before? You'll be fine!
Hey Tom, Your ultrasonic cleaner looks like a real handy tool. Who is the manufacturer of yours and what is the tub size? Any recommendations you can provide will be appreciated.
I got it at Harbor Freight. Maybe 1.5 quarts? It’s okay, I have had to return my first one but it was replaced under warranty. There are definitely better ones out there but this fits my needs at this point.
Since you seem to explain the best out of all the videos I could find.. I’ll take my luck asking my question here. During the tear down of my carb I never came across any tiny metal o-ring. It is the only piece I have left over from the kit I bought and I have no idea where it goes. Any idea or even know what I am talking about?
The tiny metal washer is likely the one that goes on the idle/air mix screw. Should be a small o-ring, then the washer, then a spring and the screw. At least that's my best guess from your description.
Tom's Tinkering and Adventures first off, thank you for such a fast response! I will check into it tomorrow and see if that’s where it goes. If there was a way to send a picture I would
Tom's Tinkering and Adventures I will look into that. I’m going to try and do some research first on the diagram I just found online. But you may still hear back from me. Thank you again for the help!
I'm using a translate program, but I understand that it shuts off when you accelerate? Do a full disassembly and cleaning of the carburetor and see if that helps. I can't remember if this carburetor has an accelerator pump but if it does, check that closely.
Ian Griffiths I have not owned a TTR250 but have ridden a few. It’s a nice mellow trail bike. Seems to be on par with the XR250 and DRZ250. I like that it has kick and electric start. Not much or any aftermarket for it so the Honda is better there.
Thushara Indika Mithrarathna start at about 2 or 2.5 turns out from seated. After the bike is warmed up, you can adjust it while the bike idles. Turn it in slowly and notice if the idle slows down. Then turn it out and listen for the idle to pick up. Somewhere between the two is your best setting.
@@guy38027 I usually start right in the middle and ride the bike, then adjust and see if it works better/worse. The setting is different depending on your riding altitude, exhaust/intake mods, etc.
