KEVIN MAJOR - I was born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia, but have been in Nashville now for many years as a songwriter. I’ve always wanted to write a song about West Virginia, my home state, but was afraid to do it. I wanted to celebrate her. Put her in a good light. The good that she shines on so many of us. Well, I did my best. And tried to feature a number of wonderful West Virginia videographers too. It’s a part of me. It’s the heart of me. It’s West by God Virginia!

Moved here 3yrs ago i am home as a former trucker seen all of the lower 48 only place for me West by God.
I was so glad that I grew up in West Virginia so proud of West Virginia. I was raised in Mingo County Delbarton W Va. There was 7 of us We live in a Holler and we was dirty poor but we was rich with lots of Love. My Mom was are Doctor and ruler and lots of love and My Daddy was Coalminer so proud of him.But my Mom has passed and Daddy die of Black Lung from Coal Mines. The Holler.... I have seen a many ... Even though... I am considered an "outsider".!!!!!! I love this land. I loved Appalachia when I lived there too. Some outsiders are more rotted here... than many would think.

WV has become a home, or at least very sacred place, for me away from home. I began learning the ways of the mountains, of Appalachia. Then, I learned that my family actually made their first American home in the mountains of Ohio and stayed there for generations... that I AM Appalachian, that West Virginia just as easily could have been our home, with all the Italians who also settled there. Truly an awakening experience, and all I can say is that my travels to West Virginia aren't just spiritual experiences, but they also are the ways I take to my family in Ohio!
She has her problems but I love my almost heavenly home♥️♥️ I love her spirit and people.

Great song & vocals ! I'm from south Louisiana. My mom lived in Roanoke, Virginia for a time so many years ago and she also said it was the most beautiful place she had ever seen in the fall. This brought back sweet memories

I may live in Pennsylvania but I will ALWAYS be a Mountaineer, born and bred! You have done our State so very proud. It warmed my heart, filled my eyes with tears and gave me chills. This might just become our next state anthem. Love it so much and will share with all my friends.
Agree.. one does not have to be BORN or raised somewhere to know it is home. I have WVA and Germany.. go figure!

We both might not have been born here, might not have roots here, but... some come here and... our soul never leaves. My soul has been here over 35 years.... and we finally bought the house we knew 35 years ago we would. Not all outsiders are "outsiders"!!!! I feel sometimes my spirit is more deeply embedded here than those born and bred here.

I will be West by God Virginia dead!!!!
And for those taunting us outsiders... that poem is from living in Appalachia... which.. again.. while we were not born and bred.. we lived there and we left our very soul there.......
Some outsiders really do belong where they live!!!!

That sounds amazing. 35 years! I've only been actively exploring the state for a few years, but my dreams involve living in Appalachia. West Virginia will always be a hallowed destination for me, who knows where I'll homestead? It could be there, it could be in Kentucky, where the land is cheap, it could even be in my native North Carolina. I hope I never forget WV, and whether or not I ever come to live there, I hope I'm always able to come visit and be baptized again in the mountain mist.
That welcome sign in the video is Mercer County. It really is my home. Gave me chills seeing that.

I'm from NC, but everything in this song is true. I really don't even know a soul in West Virginia yet, but I've come to explore it so much over the last few years, it has become a part of me. New River Gorge, Dorsey's Knob, Brush Creek Falls; these places are all ones which cleanse me in visiting. There's so much more I've yet to see. Montani Semper Liberi. This is truly some of the freest land in America.

My mamma passed a few weeks ago. She was West Virginia strong till the end. Someday I'll go back and take a clipping from that old apple tree she planted in the 80s when I was a boy. I Miss you Mountain Mama! With all my heart!

I was born and raised in California, and have lived in Oregon and Mississippi, but my ancestors lived in W. Virginia, and did some amazing things there. I feel the tug of my heart to live there, as it's the home of my ancestors and a most beautiful state! And yes, you made it clear it's West Virginia. :)
