    I love your analysis of this song. As a retired therapist, I can vouch for the fact that people almost always have a lot behind their opinions, and it rarely has anything to do with reason.

      It gets a little scary to think how some of those ideas get perpetuated through time, further solidifying misinformation. We can only hope that critical thinking and the will to engage in discourse breaks those cycles.
      Glad to hear you enjoyed the analysis, thank you for watching! 😀

    From HCYES:I think you are right about the repetitive thoughts. This reminds me that he once named the song "OCD" in the Hunan TV performance. It's partially about the thoughts that haunted and kept on troubling him. This year, he named it "Wish". It's yet another aspect of the song--that he wishes to endure the process of breaking down. This song has several aspects, both internally and externally. So I think he is right on one aspect. It takes quite some reflective thinking to understand the full content of the song. I notice that "7 personalities" also mentioned this kind of "endless ruing till he lost himself". Now we know what he went through. His regrets and the almost compulsive re-occurrence of those thoughts say a lot about the traumatic experience he has had in those two years.
    I remember that in Bazaar's interview, he sort of mentioned that that endless cycle has ended, which means that he's finally escaped from the recurrent thoughts and so he changed his mentality from " I want to love this world" to "I love this world".

      I love when a larger narrative is built over several songs. There is already so many ways in which we can connect with the subject-matter embedded in one specific song, and you wouldn't have to look any further than Madhouse to see that; even on an individual basis, you can hear different things in the song on different occasions. But beyond the variety of thoughts we can associate to one song, interpreting a larger narrative that expands over several songs can really open the mind up in ways that are difficult to verbalize. There are so many thoughts to explore, and so many perspectives to consider; it is thrilling and rewarding all at the same time.

      It is my pleasure! It is one of the many possible interpretations, and that is among the most beautiful things about art. It opens up the mind to the varying ways in which we can perceive things, and that can put a lot into context. Hua Chenyu's music really puts that in evidence.

    Thanks for your analysis, it really makes me understand more from different angles.
    He is a true thinker and artist , He knows very well how to express his ideas in music and immerse the audience in it. But what makes him different is “the empathy of music“, I can always feel a part of myself in his music.

    • @MFPReacts
      @MFPReacts  3 роки тому +1

      I agree, that is a major component of his craft. The lyrics are clearly well thought-out, and you can tell he feels them by the way he delivers them in each performance. There is a certain cohesion between the composition of the music, the lyrics, his delivery, and his performance as a whole, it just draws the listener in and takes them on a journey. It is quite an experience!

    • @tgraf66

      @@MFPReacts The most interesting part of that is that he doesn't actually write the lyrics. When he composes a song, he will write down feelings, thoughts, words, or phrases, - whatever he feels that the lyricist(s) can use to write out his thoughts. He then sends the demo to as many as 10 different lyricists who send back their interpretations. When he gets them back, he will choose among them which ones he feels are the closest to what he wants, and then he will ask those lyricists for re-writes, and the process continues until he's satisfied that what he gets back is what he wants to say. There have been songs where he has asked for up to 30 rewrites before accepting them. There is one lyricist, however, that he has been working with extensively of late (unfortunately, I can't recall her name...Pei Yu, I think?), and she has done several of his recent songs.

    Bob Marley often used the happy-go-lucky raggae rythms to shed light to serious issues Hcy does the same here. And there are so many literary ( and other artforms) references and connotations in the lyrics. Don quixote figthing his dilusions as the most obvious one. Later theres also a hint to the opposite.. am i mad/ is the world mad? (With nuclear missiles pointing at me 24/7.. am i paranoid? ) The tragic persona of the melancholic clown/ the court jester. Always the one to entertain others, always putting on masks, present in so many works of art. Any dark corner must be a blessing. The flies feeding off meals of others. Paracites we are all too familiar with. We see them every day on tv. Waiting for Godot by S Becket comes to mind - the eternal round and round never going anywhere. Its just wind. Then theres the jungle and the beast. Difficult to point to one piece of work, since this concept is so familiar to us all. The dark, dangerous, scary, wild, unknown, forreign jungle (nature) with the beast lurking in the shadows. The mind despite modern reasearch is still unknown territory to us. And mental issues are still taboo.

      Very well said! There are a lot of references and themes embedded in this song, and they come together exceptionally well to deliver a thought-provoking message, and a vivid image of perceptions of various forms of conflict. Those perceptions can make it difficult to understand how to go about the seemingly simplest of things, which raises the importance of kindness, compassion, and destigmatization.

      @@MFPReacts Totally on the same page. I see you have yet to react to the first part of his trilogy «Really want to love this world» where he emphasizes the need of kindness and compassion. (At least i cant see it in the playlist) Please chose the 2019 concert version where the talk about the song is included. ua-cam.com/video/A6jy92Pjgpg/v-deo.html. A heartbraking song but with a message of hope. Nobody knows what the future will bring.

    Thank you for this analysis. It's great to see you back with this analysis. I like the angle that you've shed light on: An internal struggle of repetitive thoughts that keeps coming back and haunts him. In fact, he named the song OCD during his Hunan TV performance of this song and it does allude to this repetitive occurrence of thoughts that troubled him I just want to add that besides internal conflicts, there is also an external aspect to it. He realized that he'd been hunted by somebody and he couldn't quite figure out why. The two flies can be metaphors of people constantly arguing in front of him, and all phenomena could be just illusions. He's been through a rough time back in 18 and 19 in both personal and professional life. We've only learnt a bit more about the background recently. He was a man in great internal and external conflicts while still having to maintain a facade of being an entertainer, hence I think that's why he referred to himself as a clown. Another point is: when people first heard the song without thinking much about the lyrics, many thought it was a happy and light hearted song. Then as people delve into the lyrics, the core of sadness becomes apparent. This contrast further reveals the mentality of this "clown" depicted in the song. I love this song so much because he also the contrast between the lyrics and the melody to reveal what's on the surface and what's deep inside. He mentioned this when he introduced the song, and I've found his thinking fascinating.

    • @MFPReacts
      @MFPReacts  3 роки тому +3

      Thank you!
      What you've brought up in terms of external conflicts being notable in this song is very true. With that said, I find it interesting that my focus on the internal conflict is the one that stood out in my analysis. The external components are fundamentally important to the song, and I had hoped that my thoughts relating to his observations between the flies would convey that. Ultimately, he cannot understand what is happening between the flies, but he attempts to define their interaction nonetheless, and the way he does so is a reflection of what he has perceived elsewhere. I would consider this to be internal and external simultaneously. He has witnessed discord, and it has been significant enough in his life for him to internalize it in such a way that he projects that view elsewhere, even on something as potentially innocent as two flies. Furthermore, one of the things I love about this song is I feel that this phenomenon gets explored further as the song progresses. I would say we get to see why he has internalized that conflict through his explorations of the complications of living in a subjective world with so many trying to establish objective realities. So in summary, following the cyclical theme of the song, we can observe a cycle in external conflict creating an internal conflict, which then in turn shapes his perception, further intensifying the external conflict from his point of view, possibly widening its scope as well. With that said, this is of course just my perspective, one of the several possible avenues to explore! I love that about Hua's songs; there is such depth to them that you can end up in so many different places.
      What you mention about the clown and the facade he has had to maintain as an entertainer is fascinating. It definitely provides food for thought in listening to this song!

    • @grandnewworld1010
      @grandnewworld1010 3 роки тому +3

      @@MFPReacts Your point about the cycle of external and internal conflicts pushing each other into a spiral trap is absolutely true. That's how we get trapped in our mind. Hua's songs employ all expressive tools like music arrangements, lyrics, the switching of music genres, metaphors, imageries, literary references: like Don Quixote's vain struggle as a backdrop frame to impinge the type of struggle he depicted. It implies that he thinks he is somehow an absurd man (his perpetual theme that he is an alien) doing a struggle that weren't understood by the public. The more you reflect on it, the more information you can unpack. I've been listening to it for over a year and I can still find fresh perspectives from reactors like you. It really does open up our awareness. Thank you again for your analysis and response. Hope that you do more of Hua's song's reactions.

    I loved you're interpretation of the lyrics! I always enjoy your HCY videos. Im pretty sure this song is a prelude to Conversation with Martian (his fan base name) Children.
    For some reason the lyrics about him meticulously playing the melancholic clown and enjoying a moment of freedom is such a hard hitting lyric. It seems like playing someone else is an escape from himself, almost an alter ego.
    Anyways, loved this, can't wait for the next one! I'd love a breakdown of his performance of 'Exaggerated' (which is a cover) but it's one of my favorite performances.

      Thank you so much! The clown line is quite interesting indeed. It is self-deprecating, and to throw in a word like meticulously adds so much to it, as it makes it seem as though he feels that he is putting a certain level of effort towards being that version of himself. Whether the clown is a brief escape, a contributor to the inner conflict, or both, is a thought that stands out to me. Either way, the line definitely adds depth to the importance of him breaking the cycle.

    I keep getting impressed by your long and elaborate analysis. How do you put your thoughts so well into words?
    Can you react to “I really want to love this world” next? It’s a song about depression and it ranked number 1 on many different rankings on music. For example most sold single and most popular song etc. Depression is really not talked about a lot in Asia which is why it touched many people. You can find it on his concert in 2019 or on Singer 2020. Singer 2020 has a better quality but of course there’s copyright with that.

      Thank you so much for the kind words! To be honest with you, I rarely feel as though I've properly fully articulated my thoughts. It's kind of a case of 'l'esprit de l"escalier', where I feel I have better words to explain my thoughts at a later time; once it is too late. It is especially easy to feel that in making these videos, as I have to rewatch the footage and piece it together. In that process, I hear what I've said and I am often left feeling that I could have expressed a given thought in a more accurate and concise way.
      Nevertheless, I do feel like those thoughts are a bit superficial; at the end of the day, perfection is an illusion, and time would probably make me realize that there is a better way to convey a thought even after I've felt that I conveyed it in my ideal way. Thoughts are not static, they are constantly evolving, so I try to remind myself that I am giving listeners a glimpse of what's happening in my mind as I speak. This allows me to ease the pressures of perfectionism, and it helps me to be more mindful in a given moment. I think that's key to things such as public speaking and improvisation; you need to let go of the idea that you are going to say exactly what you want, and you need to allow yourself to be in the moment. The more you do that, the more comfort you will find in those situations, and the more efficient you will be in expressing yourself. I think that's what helps me most in expressing myself with these videos; they are improvised, I am not attempting to give you something that has been thought-out, the goal is to give a first impressions analysis, so being attentive and in the moment is of the utmost importance.
      As for my next Hua reaction, 'I really want to love this world' is definitely on my list :)
      Thanks again for the kind words, and for watching!

      @@MFPReacts I know what you mean, but when I reflect on myself I know I can hardly put my thoughts and feeling into words. Our thoughts are never entirely put to words and not everyone might understand them but you just do that so smoothly and it actually surprised me after watching a few of your reactions. Everyone has that thought that it could have been better but believe me you do that very well already so you don’t need to improve your explanations because I truly think they are very narrowed down already.

    I have rewatched every one of your Hua Chenyu reactions and the new ones you have put up since I last watched you, and what a blast it has been! I'm so sad this is the end for now.
    And anyone corrects me if I am mistaken, but this is one song part of a trilogy. The melody he plays at the end on the piano connects with his song "Conversations with Martian Children".
    "Marians" or "ET" is his fan's name.
    HuaHua has been shunned a lot for being strange and out of the norm, both in personality and in musicallety. Being called a "Martian" and "coming from Mars" was often used referring to him as an insult or not in the best light. Basically calling him strange and alien.
    His fans turned the meaning around and made "Mars" our home. We that belongs on Mars, Hua Chenyu and all his fans, are "Martians" that belong there :)
    "Conversations with Martian Children" is a song HuaHua created with a handful of "Martians". The teaser showing more of their "talk", while the song itself is the result of HuaHua and his fans consoling each other.
    I hope since I am 3 months late to your "new" reactions, I won't have to wait as long before your next HuaHua reaction lol
    Either way, your amazing observations and insight is worth the wait :)

    Best analysis and interpretation of the lyrics and message of the song. Wow, you went so deep into this and you were actually able to put into words so beautifully what we were all feeling. Just like Hua Chenyu is able to express his thoughts and feelings through his music.
    Most people can relate completely to this turmoil and struggle to make sense of our chaotic, confusing, contradicting feelings and thoughts in this chaotic, confusing, contradicting world . At some point if we are lucky we learn to accept and enjoy this madhouse (chaotic world). Most of us can relate to the challenges and painful childhood experiences that Hua Chenyu went through. That makes understanding the world and people even harder and more confusing. To be able to put all that pain and suffering into such a beautiful art form and to be able to connect with and inspire and heal millions of people (and himself) - it's genius, it's brilliant.

      Thank you very much! The more I listen to Hua Chenyu, the more evident it is that there is a lot of personal experience embedded in the words he sings, and exploring those thoughts can be thrilling, fascinating, and enlightening all at once. It makes analyzing the lyrics such a pleasure.

    About the breakdown - yes, we can only achieve that peaceful state if we learn to completely accept the words as it is and stop struggling so much. The line "I want all that this world has to offer but not the pain and the tears" is genius. Don't we all suffer so much because we refuse to recognise that we can't avoid pain and suffering and that not accepting it ( and our ultimate fate) is the main reason of our misery? And trying to control things we can't control. I guess that's what drives us forward too, but it can also be self destructive. Hua chose music. But his father chose alcohol to deal his pain and we all know that trying to escape our pain only causes more psin and misery to us and people around us and unfortunately our innocent children, including Hua.
    We love you and feel your love Hua and so sorry you didn't receive love when you needed it the most. I hope you know how loved you are now. And your parents DID love you, they were just in too much pain and unable to show you love.

      As you have probably already been told, Hua has lyricists as he says his vocabulary is limited. But there is one song he wrote lyrics for “why nobody fights”. That’s the whole song, but the way he composed it is profound. There is a MV of it which captures it well, and I think is the better version. Would be interesting to get your analysis on those three words.
