I found this note on Songfacts "On the inside of a CD cover Hollies Drummer, Bobby Elliott wrote the following about the famous guitar riff opening of LCW: "Previously I heard Allan (Clarke) playing a short attractive guitar piece whilst he was relaxing or tuning up. I suggested that we started the song with the same piece." and so they did. FYI the Long Cool Woman that opens and closes the video is Charlotte Rampling.

Love your video, Barry! This is the best rendition of Long Cool Woman on UA-cam. It's the right mixture of Long Cool Woman and film noir art. Where did you get the art work? My favorite line: "With just one look I was a bad mess, 'cause that long cool woman had it all..." Ain't it the truth? :-)
Oh man.. you got THAT right!! Really appreciate the comments. The art is from net searches.. some are from a game and some are paintings.
I want to see a woman with a pair of 45.
Charlotte Rampling was one long cool woman in any dress. Good choice. Great song after I finally learned the lyrics.
The Gaming Minion actually there's a better version than this one there's actually two one Woman in a Black Dress stretched out looks like in the in England she's on a brick wall that's very good but there's another one also that both are better than this this is good at these are better.
The Gaming Minion I totally agree with you.
Charlotte Rampling, and this song, what a dream thanks for the lyrics
Wasn’t she gorgeous! We’re the same age - I prefer these pictures & remember what a great time we had
this timeless song is one off the best , in rock n roll history , who's with me !
Well I am of course! (That's why I made the video!)
Hollies are meaningful artists yes my very first favorite song as a child and first quest for a song on a record. period... love all their works
Here!
I agree
count me in. Being listening to this song since 1973
One of the COOLEST songs ever written.
yes want song
It sure is, it's a movie in itself
Charlotte Rampling is the reason to buy this record.
Charlotte Rampling is one of the most beautiful models / actresses of all time. A true natural beauty. Her timing in her walk and movement is electrifying. She oozes sensuality
Is she the one at the close?
@M. K. thanks...5'-7" 👌
Even in her senior years she is still a total knock out!
Not even Marlyn Monroe had her sexuality...its as if she has a neon sign over her head that says 'sex!sex!sex! '

Yep
First and last
ZardOz (the movie) starring with Sean Connery, first and only time I can recall seeing her in a film. Wonderful sci-fi BTW
There are songs that never get old, this is one of them.
You're right about that is timeless it sounds just as good as the first time I ever heard it 30 years ago
It’s the intro…that riff…
Charlotte Rampling's beauty endures and she is 75.
Thanks - I thought she looked familiar.
loved her in red sparrow, she was the wet dream of boys in the 70s... ;o)
Don't know her name and she is beautiful ❤️
Still would
I loved this song so much, when I was 18 my boyfriend ❤ soon to be my husband bought me my first pair of high heels, and a sexy black dress God I loved that dress
Charlotte Rampling what a wonderful hypnotic gaze that woman has.
Charlotte Rampling! - she was definitely a long cool woman who had it all!
Yeah, and Eartha Kitt, too.
The only other one that might've been missing from those days is Julie Newmar.
still is
Man I had no idea she was such a dish in her younger days
Man I looked her up. What a knock out when she was younger. Geez
This band and this song have always been at the top of my list. I'd rather not say how long that has been. Just say a good lifetime
Is that the beautiful Charlotte from the swinging sixties?
@@kennyc3670 Indeed it is, our stunning Charlotte Rampling.
I was a DJ in a rocker bar in the early 80's. We played records, and people drank a lot of beer. This song was on an album clearly labeled "For Emergency Use"
As soon as it started with those awesome guitar riffs, it always stopped any fight, and got the people rockin'.
Some grooves are just greater than the prevailing chaos !
Great last line. Awesome.
That's a big change from DJ to Master of the Gas Turbine. Did you spin "Back in the USSR" so much that you had to move on to turbojets?
Totally agree. Back in the day, 25 or 6 to 4 was what our football team played in the locker room as we were getting ready to go out on the field.
Love "greater than prevailing chaos" worked in bar in south Georgia in early '80s and witnessed effect of music but opppsite yo your example... what I noticer was that when a blues band was booked for night the likelihood of a fight was much higher than any other time.
One of locals was excellent amateur blues harmonica player who usually was invited to jpin band for a couple numbers. He was a welcome surprise.
Music is primal. Good to know.
What an incredible post! I have a graphic that says....Music on...World Off. Love it!
Charlotte's eyes are so captivating. They can hypnotize and mesmerized. She is a goddess.
Charlotte rampling in that pose are what dreams are made of xxx
Absolutely.
A great song and performance from an era when musicians really created quality and memorable music and could perform it too.
One of the coolest guitar lead ins to a great song. Thank you Hollies
THE best,in my opinion...........
Intro played by Allen Clarke So I heard ?
It shows how important a rhythm guitarist can be.
I remember when this song came out, but 50 years later(!), this is the FIRST TIME I've really heard and understood the lyrics!! The pictures and film noir illustrations are VERY effective. Takes me back to the old movies I grew up watching. (Ah, the Golden Age of cinema!) Kudos on the video, and thanks for the lyrics!😊♥️
Me too Donna, I rate the Hollies right up there but this is my first time to LISTEN to the lyrics and, along with the background art it's been a whole new experience. At my age that's pretty unusual!!
Yeah, we grew up at a great, great time!
Me 2... Best song ever... Listened 2x and wiggled on my crutches,,, Even my OT and PT's haven't elicited that much response from this old body,,76 this summer... Thanks for the memories!!
lol, same here. up until now all I could do was hum along
@@judythompson8227 And me. I had no idea what some of those lyrics were
I grow up in the last 70s & 80s love classic rock.
Charlotte. the pleasure was all mine thank you for your graciousness and beauty 50 Years ago.
Awesome song with my 45's
I was 20 years old when this song came out and serving in Vietnam!
this song stands the test of time!
BTW I'm now living in Vietnam in much better times!
GREAT SONG ! Sam Adler
Thank you serving in the greatest armed forces in the history of this world. God bless.
Thank you so much! It's greatly appreciated!
The song never dies! Every time it comes on you always gotta listen to it! Definitely ahead of its time!
This song has got to be in the top ten best songs of all time. Thank you for printing the lyrics to this song, it made me realize that I’ve been singing this song all wrong for the last 50 years.
The beat, the lyrics, the way it just makes you want to get up and move to the music is classic rock at it's absolute peak of perfection . Long live the Hollies !
Это очень шикарная вещь из 70-х! Это жемчужина и она восхищает. А коллаж и слова прекрасно дополнили общую картину! Спасибо за удовольствие подареное вами!
I agree.
Great old song which never gets old. Still fresh and good even now. Awesome.
The song and the woman, they both are cool :)
I love this song been listening to it since late 1970's. Still has meaning to me
I remember in '72 when this song came out...very cool and still is!
Love this song. Pure, unprocessed, unpretentious rock and roll!
i watched this with my pop one night and now this is my favourite song to listen to with him
Hollies- to tak tego szybkiego zagrali mi z taśmy magnetofonowej na weselu - dylu dylu yeah - kocioł 🤠🥁🎸👍🌹
As a guitarist this song is just beyond words, these guys just made one of the best musical licks of all time, i am70yrs old and it still makes my day to listen to and it always will.
I agree
I'm 58 and I know when driving my pickup and I'm much older I will still be trying to sing loudly and moving my head with the beat...my father is 88 and just never got into music.
I'm 70 plus. If you watch one of the " live" versions, Alan Clark seems to just gently slide his fingers along without pushing down on the string. I know he does push down, but it's very hard to tell. There's a good clip on here that shows that.
Holy crap this song STILL gets me up on my feet to dance!
There will ALWAYS be long cool women to dance with...
This songs the coolest even when I first heard it when I was a boy in the 70s
Love the photo of Charlotte to open. Even though time has passed she still has style and command.
Nice work.
SOMEBODY,tell these guys that this is the coolest, best beat EVER devised.Lyrics wickedly fine.........Beat Mesmorizing.........
Have to agree with that. Damn fine song. Very catchy never get sick of it. Check out Joan Jett 'dirty deeds' acdc version .also a great tune.
🌺 Absolutely Fabulous.
Hollies are such a great
band. It's September 2019
and I am still in love with
everything they sang.
Ahh, those were the days! We still have many classic tunes that beat today's noise by a mile!
And so with me.
april 2022. still love this song,
The absolute best of rock and roll history and talk about great dance number...can’t be bea
Listened to this song while running everyday --- summer 1972......
Serving my country. USN Vietnam Veteran.

Friday, August 16, 2019....11:15 PM...NEW YORK CITY.....This song still rocks!!! The Hollies equals great, before their time music. Thank you!
I have had a lot of fun over the years I want to thank the music industry and all that contributed! I don’t think there ever was a bad music artist ! if there was I must have missed listening to them Godbless all of you! Thank you for the memories!
I hope Buddy & his kids are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for this song; just like I hope the artist who painted the pictures in this rendition made money in his lifetime.
WOW THANKS .this reminds me my early years learning to play drums ,,,,,,in mid 60;s ,,,,,,
an actual rock song with intelligent lyrics and story telling love it
Perfect pictures really related to the song. Fantastic💛💚💙👌👌👌✌✌💜❤🌹🌷👍😙💖👏👏👏
Been listening to it for forty years!
Charlotte Rampling is incredibly beautiful
yup.
agree!
" Angel heart "
I really enjoy how some of the bands and singers from my time are still getting playtime, Awesome. The 60’ and 70’s were a great times. THANKS.
In 1973, I was an 8 year old living in Mt. Magnet, a gold mining town 500km north of Perth, Western Australia (pop.400 at the time, hot as a bastard). My folks were the licensees of one of the 3 pubs in town. This track was pumped out on the juke box countless times every night (along with Bowie’s “Sorrow” and many others). Since then, I’ve had LDWIABD on vinyl, cassette, CD, HDD, and nowadays Spotify. It is a timeless classic!
with my 45's Awesome song
A righteously badass song!!! 🤠👍
One of my all-time favorite songs
An excellent song that gave me a flashback to my teenage years and my '67 GTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favourite songs. The long cool woman in a black dress indeed looks gorgeous.
I could never decipher these lyrics. It’s cool to finally be able to understand the story being told in the song
Just love the artwork backing up the lyrics. Haven;t heard this song for many years.
"A pair of 45's made me open my eyes" and I was a bad mess! A cool number that I'll never forget 😎
Was in 7th Grade when this first hit the airwaves; and has remained one of my Favorite Songs of All Time.
The art work is perfect.
un saludo a todas las personas que vivieron la época dorada de los años 50 60 70 años inolvidables que jamás pasaran de moda
You had me at the opening riff with the image of the wonderful Charlotte Rampling!
Great video.
This was my favorite rock-n-roll song in '72. It had just the right beat, hook and tune to stimulate my style. Thanks for posting this classic.
Just the beat and tone are killer by its self, let alone the words. I have bookmarked this song and i still play it almost once a week it impacts my human spirit that much .
One of the greatest songs of that era, thanks for the visuals to go with the lyrics; I really enjoyed it!
A great song from a great band and a great video to make it all come together, thanks for this and the great memories this brings back.
living in Southend Essex having a great teenage life with this great music
Hey Ian - good for you for delving into the older stuff. So many young people ignore it. My oldest daughter always had a strong appreciation for music of past years, and has gotten a lot of pleasure from it.
excellent job barry !!!! ,,, no video just pictures, timeless
..or Old School! Glad you enjoyed it.
I love the intro with the guitar and then the base coming in really enhances it. This is the first time I knew what all the lyrics were.
I'm not that old but with what I am aware of "TV" and history, this was an exquisite excellent capture of the 1920's. The life in a "Speakeasy".
Charlotte Rampling gets my vote........WOW!
When I was still a kid, just finished school in the evening and walking to catch the public bus home at the city station, this song suddenly blasted out from a music shop there. The incredible rock intro just blew my mind back then and gave me the goose bumps ! Got me hitched on hard rock ever since.....thanks Allan Clarke for that high pitch, Cockney vocals and a truly legendary song !!!!!!
Alan Clarke is not a cockney. He was born in Salford greater Manchester.
This is just great. Love the Edward Hopperesque images too.
Charlotte Rampling certainly had it all.
The Hollies set out to write a CCR song. They nailed it.
Awesome!! one of the best song of the 70s by a British group. Forever remains as one of my favourites.
Truly great song with a beautiful intro and dance beat!
a favourite during our party time when I was 15 in year 73
Nicely done, Barry! The sound quality is particularly good! Thanks for the effort and sharing!
Whoo! Love those good comments! THANKS!!
I’ve heard this song many times over the past 40 years but this is the first time I seen or understood some of the lyrics! Well done 🤗
The Lady on the front and back video cover reminds me of my late Girlfriend. She had LEGS THAT WOULD NOT STOP. She's rocking it in Heaven now.
I can remember the 1st time I heard this song. It was like two in the morning and a buddy and me were heading home after a night of some hard partying. We got stopped at a railroad crossing for a train and all of sudden this song comes on the radio and comes right through our purple haze. Wow. :)
LOVE the rendition, Barry!! Thanks for posting it!!
One of my favorite classics...and a genuinely DAMN--FINE video...VERY well done! Thanks!
Wow....very cool. I LOVE that slow bass laying down a dancers delighted beat! Thanks! D
I can't believe I first heard this song in 72, driving at night in a 60 Cadillac convertible.
Always loved this song!!
You are so right! I can hardly stay in my seat!
Every song was fantastic . Very talented group of fellas!! I love EVERYTHING they ever did...
Just found this channel with this great song and three listens later it is still as magical as ever. What sound, what movement, what everything! Awesome!
Charlotte had some roles on the Show "Dexter". I only caught a glimpse of it but instantly recognized her. A beautiful woman
Cool song --- I could listen to this everyday . Good old rock and roll .
CLASSIC !!!
Reminds me of my dad playin air guitar when I was a kid. I was 9 when he died. I'm in my mid 30s now and miss em every single day that passes me by. RIP pops, I hope you're still jammin like your baby boy is 😎👍
Another Hollies great takes me back
This a treat, given the Hollies have long been on my short list of greatest pop artists, ever. Thanks!
